Ask Us Anything: Sharing Knowledge 420 Style

Ok 420 gang I have a quick questioned for the experienced growers on here. How do you correctly diagnose between nitrogen toxicity and overwatering? I know that may sound a silly question but both individual problems seem to display very similar symptoms? I have a small dilemma and I'm torn between the two diagnosis and for obvious reasons if I've overwatered I don't want to start leaching the plants incase I do more damage. I'm really annoyed at myself for allowing this to catch me out and I feel I already know which the issue is but with such a vast wealth of experience in here I thought I'd ask for some definitive differences between nitrogen toxicity and over watering symptoms. It could even be a combination of both but I've caught it early on the first sign of symptoms. My biggest concern is new growth looks very golden and yellow almost but big fan leaves are a much darker green with a little limpness and clawing/talons on the tips, the plants also displayed some leaf cupping but that appears to have corrected as I've gradually dried their pots out. So am I looking at N toxic or over watering? Right now I can't decide. The strains are Sensi Skunk and Master Kush. I've accompanied a few photos but they're not great as it's really windy out. Any input would be appreciated before this turns into something much worse in flower, thanks in advance guys and gals.

I dont know if it helps but I planted in miracle gro potting mix which is loaded with nutes specfically nitrogen 24-8-16, I had a lot of leaf yellowing and spotting on the leaves till I started flushing them out a little. To be honest they look pretty good to me but I'm a newbie. My girls new growth is lighter, limey, been doin it all along.

Yeah thanks and that's common in MG soil which I wouldn't use. I've used a very good quality Multi Purpose compost with around 3-5 weeks of nutrients in but nothing too heavy or time released and they should be used up now so it's not a hot compost issue I don't think but thanks. I know they don't look too bad but I think I caught it early, I'm just reluctant to flush the soil nutrients if I actually overwatered and didn't over fertilise. It is highly possible I did both but maybe I'm looking for a problem that's not there, I do worry and fuss a bit too much!

Haha yeah I had a wet room fitted last year and I'm still yet to pay for the rubbish to be cleared. I have to position them around the toilet and sink in the morning lol!

From what I have picked up here a good flushing is a very good thing I dont think you can't over do it short of washing out all the soil. Look at my thread thing.

While I'm actually movin and adjusting things which I keep to a minimum, I wanted to get my shorstest girl up into the lights and spread things out a bit room is short. As I was headin into the house with a little piece of scrap wood it occured to me to clean it off and check it real good so I dont bring in unwanted critters. Ounce of prevention.

I'll check it out mate. My plants are outdoor so I'm not actually using the bath to store them in I just have to position pots around them . my flushing/leeching issue is based on if I overwatered already. If I've already caused moisture stress the last thing they need is 30 litres of water pumping through them so I need to be certain it's a mild nitrogen toxicity issue before I do it, I already corrected one plant but I was certain on that one,l. Whatever it is it is in its early stage and I don't wanna make it worse. I've nearly 20 years of growing under my belt but can I make a proper diagnosis? Can I heck. Lol. Appreciate your help though

i need help , i just found out that my beans and tomatoes had nats lastnight i took them all out and checked my 5 cannabis plants and noticed this on the leaf

please help

First thing to do is let the soil dry out, especially the top inch or so. Fungus gnats won't live long if the top inch or two of your plants soil is dried out. Gnats thrive in damp soil and repopulate in the soil by laying eggs, they then feed off the roots and nasty stuff. Dry your growing medium a little more between waterings and find a cannabis friendly bug spray and yellow sticky traps if it's a bad infestation. The key to no gnats is letting your soil dry a bit between waterings.

My thought too, I usually let em drain real good then tip em a little too. Not gonna mess with it at this stage just collecting knowledge. I dont let it sit too long.

Far be it from me to second guess the experts and I will correct anything I can at any stage. Drilled drain holes in the reserviors lest you lose sleep.

I really don't think its fungus nats this is brand new ff soil

It could be if the soil is always damp. Gnats thrive in wet soil wherever it's from. I'm not necessarily saying it definitely is but it looks like an issue I once had with gnats. Similar damage occurred to the leaves so it immediately stood out but I could be way off also.

Not sure I'd if you would try early miss auto from crop king seeds as long as temp never goes below 10 your good.

Yes it will definitely flower but protect her from rain in flower at all costs. I grow outdoors in the uk and get good results with photo period seeds so I see no issue flowering an auto in our climate. The key to U.K. Growing is protecting your buds from water.... at all costs. I use self constructed DIY rain shelters made from bamboo canes and polyfibre tunnel cloth/plastic. Good luck .

It doesnt look like over watering to me, the entire leaf isnt affected. Theres a bit of nute burn showing with the leaf tips clawing slightly. Are you in soil or soiless? Whats your ph?

The runoff test ph is fine it's the first thing I tested. I'm growing in Multi Purpose compost with added base nutrients but only a 3-5 week lightweight supply which they should have easily used up by now which is why I'm unsure on the toxicity thing, I didn't think there was enough N in the soil to cause it to be honest. For now I'm gonna let the pots dry a little and see if the problem improves or worsens but I think I'm leaning towards your answer, those few talons/claws would suggest the soil is too N rich. Thanks for the input it's greatly appreciated. I think I may just be looking for issues that aren't quite there. I'm a Virgo after all and we are known to be ridiculously meticulous and OCD about everything lol.

Hello guys, I wanted to know what lights and other equipment I would need to start off growing I have a couple seeds already above ground. Considering I work 2 jobs and have a baby on the way I don't have much time but I really want to start growing for myself! So I wanted to know what equipment I would need to start growing in a small closet and leave them be only to check up on them everyday. Any help would help thanks!

Confused why is rain water no good there?

Confused why is rain water no good there?

It's no good for the buds because of our high humidity. It will cause budrot in flower. Rainwater is fantastic to feed them with but it's catastrophic if those heavy buds get a good soaking deep into flowering. I used to get some budrot every year until I started putting a rain cover above those heavy colas, now I get none.

Question for the organic folks -
I have a worm farm, fairly large, and it produces quite a bit of worm piss / compost juice that I catch from the drain hole.
I have used it, heavily diluted, during flowering on some outdoor girls and they seem to love it.
Is any body else doing something similar? What else / when should I be using it?
You can use it all they way, take 2 weeks off for your flush.
