Arteekay's Second Grow - Autos & Feminized - Mixed Strains

Jan 18 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 19 days old. DD is 8 days old. Temp is 72 and RH is 42%

  • DD got 420ml (because my syringe is a 60ml, and because it was an awesome number to give her) of bubbled tap water at 150ppm and 5.8 PH.

Didn't get to doing anything with the veg tent or drying space. Spaced out on some of Droopy's tiny little popcorn, quick dried. Decent, but harsh of course.

Temp and humidity aren't terrible, so I'm ok with it for another night. We'll likely have to manicure up Trudy tomorrow night so we'll look at reworking it then.

Sadly, I have to report that Jaybiz and I have decided to go our separate ways. I really couldn't be happier. :)

Yes that's right, we're each gonna take one plant as our own to do whatever we want without discussion. I wanted the DD of course, and Jaybiz is really the one that wanted the photo anyway so CR is his. I'll be taking her stats and pictures, but everything else is his to do whatever with. The current plan is CR will stay in the veg tent when he flips it to 12/12, and the three autos will move to the flowering tent as the first grow finishes up. The two unclaimed autos will still be jointly decided on by consensus, but we're planning on training them long rather than square, figure we can fit three in better that way.

Reason for the change in who will stay in the veg tent is to maximize our lights. I'd rather run the autos at 18/6 or 20/4 under the two Mars II 900's and have JB train CR into an approximate 2x2 and flower her under the spider (at 200w) at 12/12.

Couldn't find a better housemate, so that ain't changing anytime soon by my choice.

CR (6.8 lbs, down from 7.2 yesterday). Still a few days to go):

Bottom node:

Crazy top:

She really looks like two separate plants to me:

Yep, we have a great arrangement here but sometimes ya gotta just do your own thing hahaha.. and I'm pretty stoked to get to train the Crown Royale. With that said, most of you will know already that rtk is the research guy, and knows far more about growing in general than I do so I am looking for some ideas of what to do with the CR. If you look closely at the middle stem, it is going crazy with growth nodes since the FIM. I am thinking of tying it down off to once side and the other two tops going the other way (three tops tied down at angles like a Mercedes logo) or do I cut that top off? Do I wait and super crop it? I'm really open to any suggestions. I'm looking forward to what our community has to say. :)

You're going to laugh, but I had a dream about this the other night! Not specifically your plant either. I was dream I was trying to do a FIM, but hey guess what, I missed, and only got 3 tops instead of 4. In my dream I trained it out like a peace sign and around the pot. It was pretty awesome. But this reminds me of that!

I'm sure someone else with more experience would be able to tell you the proper/best way.

Nice. I'm getting ready to top my 4 girls after I feed tomorrow. Well, I'll wait a day to top.

Cheers

It was oddly exhilarating for us, the two autos at least. Feeling that tiny snap when the top cleanly comes off and you haven't disturbed the two existing growth nodes at all. We were proper topping virgins before these. Britney from our first grow doesn't count.

The photo period CR was "topped" at the second node and was very tiny to try to get a bend on without snapping her barely formed stem. Not sure it's a good idea to try to top that early. I'll likely stick with the third going forward. Not only that I don't think we really even fimmed her. That's right, I fimmed the fimming even.

crown royal looks like two plants to me too! Gonna be cool to see how the finishing structure looks!

Now that she's not my responsibility, I think she'd be a great candidate for flux! hehehe

Have you considered picking her up and slamming her into the light? :)

It's your turn to try some EST buddy. Brit wasn't much older...

That's pretty much what Biz is dreamin' too I think. Just more equidistant between the three growing tips than a peace sign.

Not sure there's a single person, worldwide, that could say with any certainty what is best. Workable, maybe even personally extremely effective, but no absolute best. Therefore your opinion is just as valuable to Jaybiz and myself, and everyone else here. IMHO of course.

They're all looking great RTK+. Have you guys decided on training techniques? Or will you just do what seems best for each at the time...

If I haven't said it elsewhere, I'm perfectly fine with rtk, far easier to type without having to capitalize it. Just an fyi to make it easier on all of us.

Lots of discussion and staring at all of them. No decisions made as the days tick by. I'm handcuffed by indecision and too many options and how we want them to be 2 months from now...

We've talked about CR amongst ourselves the most, even after she became his to do whatever with. We'll likely LST the Jack Herer soon though, but NEM is smaller still so I'm still considering ponytailing her first.

Discussion still required, and honestly we're still pretty busy with the first grow so it's a bit of struggle to keep up with them all.

DD (my own gurl) will get topped around the same age as the other two autos, then I'll start thinking about how I want to to go. Really haven't settled on anything yet.

Jan 19 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 20 days old. DD is 9 days old. Temp is 72 and RH is 43%

Nothing to do today but sit on our hands. Late start so we didn't get to manicuring Trudy, or really anything. But I did manage to take a few pics and collect my required data.

NEM (15 lbs, down from 16.4 yesterday):

JH (14.4 lbs, down from 16.2 yesterday):

CR (6.2 lbs, down from 6.8 yesterday):

DD (6.4 lbs, down from 7.2 yesterday):

Back in the tent:

They are growing up voluptuously. Future contestant worthy.

I love that word, voluptuously. Thanks so much Yeatster! There's still lots of time for me to screw 'em up!

Interesting enough to garner a Vlad sub. Let's go Arteekay!

V:bongrip:

I hope I live up to your lowest expectations Vlad. Only our second grow, and our first is still finishing up, so we're still very much in learning mode.

Jan 20 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 21 days old. DD is 10 days old. Temp is 72 and RH is 43%, static since yesterday.

Another small update, but I can't not do a daily journal entry, I'd never get to sleep anyway. :)

Barely got to them today. Only the Dark Devil needed anything, but I did a little leaf tucking on JH and helped the tops on NEM spread a bit more than they planned themselves, just with my finger tip. We really need to get on their training before the weekend. Expect a big update that day, sorry.

  • DD got 600ml of of bubbled tap water at 165ppm and 5.8 PH.

DD (6.2 lbs before water, 7.8 after) The droop only appeared after watering, I'll let her go dry for a day next time maybe, if she doesn't get topped beforehand, hehehe:

CR (5.4 lbs, down from 6.2 yesterday) She's dry, but Jaybiz decided to leave her for one more day before possibly transplant into the 4.6 g air pot I was originally going to run the DD in:

JH (13.0 lbs, down from 14.4 yesterday):

NEM (13.4 lbs, down from 15.0 yesterday):

Okay I'm with you now NEM is my favorite too now, her structure reminds me of my CheeseCandy when she was that young, will you be topping again?

Well, JH is my current favorite now that I topped her a second time tonight, two nodes up from the original topping. How can I know where the line is until I cross it myself. :)

Yup, I'm the guy that has to check when someone says "careful, that's HOT!"

But I don't think we'll top NEM again, she's been through a rougher childhood than the rest already.

So much progress in the week I was away!

Definitely hard to go past that NEM. nice work on building her structure like that.

I'm sure it's impossible to tell from the pictures, but the side that was missing it's cotyledon is probably about 30% smaller up to the second node. I find that incredibly interesting.

As you all know I am a fan of Droopy, but my next fav is going to have to be Crown Royal and not because I like the drink........straight on the rocks. lol

I have to tell you MzSiroz.... Tonight I had the pleasure of rolling the First Big-Assed Joint from our good friend Droops, dried over 6 days and at about 70%. A little damp, but she burned and tasted just fine and got us more stoned than either of us have been in months. She is awesome, I can only imagine her after a couple weeks of curing.

I'm very glad you talked us into saving her. Thank you!

Right now it gives me great pleasure to think of young intrepid growers reading this and smashing their plants up into their reflectors. "RTK said to do it!"

Oh, rtk didn't say to do it, that intrepid old fool showed the whole damned rollercoaster. It's higher stress for the grower than the plant I think.

I'll say this, she gave us the confidence to get in and actually touch them finally.

I just topped three of my four plants. Not sure if I want to wait for second topping or flip in a week.

Cheers

Jan 21 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 22 days old. DD is 11 days old. Temp is 71 and RH is 59%.

  • CR was soaked after transplant with ~15% strength DNF Gro A+B and calmag+ at 289ppm and 5.8 PH

So the humidity is good, but the temps are too low for my liking. I said in my first grow journal's nightly post that we wouldn't need to use the oil filled radiator, but I'm rethinking that. Tomorrow's project.

Jaybiz decided to transplant his Crown Royale photoperiod girlfriend into one of our 4.6 gallon Air Pots, water her and start on her training. It went reasonably well, had some dirt fall off the rootball but not enough I don't think to really affect her. The training looks good to me and will undoubtedly be re-evaluated every day when she comes out to play.

We decided to top our CKS Jack Herer autoflower girl a second time, two nodes up from the original topping on each side. Very interested to see how she responds.

CR's roots during transplant

CR after transplant (10.8 lbs before watering):

After training:

CR (25.0 lbs) after watering and her first very light feeding:

She was allowed to dry off completely before being put back under the light.

DD (7.2 lbs, down from 7.8 yesterday):

Each day I note the way each is leaning, and force them to move to the other side when they are put back in the tent. I figure it'll strengthen stuff up a bit, not sure but still do it anyway.

I continue to gently bend and move some branches around and tuck leaves (the tops I want to slow down under the fan leaves of the ones I want to speed up) on JH and NEM every time I'm in the tent, but haven't tied her down anywhere yet. I may not honestly, I'm very much enjoying the time with them...

JH (11.6 lbs, down from 13.0 yesterday):

One of the second toppings:

NEM (12.6 lbs, down from 13.4 yesterday):

No family pic taken tonight and too lazy to go grab one, upload and post it now.

Night all and I hope you have a great Friday.

I'm still debating topping the DD, I may just LST the crap out of her instead. I'm so looking forward to her flowers that I don't want to put too much risk on our first grow of her strain.

And here I am 4 pages late.:blalol: I'll get caught up.

Oh, and since I'm here... :passitleft:

Yeah, I'm sorry all. I know I journal a lot, my OCD prevents me from going to bed until I do my daily picture set and data dump.

As for passing one left, I've got the next round or two covered. Compared to two weeks ago I'm practically swimming in pot from our first grow (still in progress). We were close to digging up the months old, stale roach jar. Gotta remember to toss that out tomorrow.
