Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

This was the last bud pic I took of my Strawberry Blue @ Day 44 of Flower:

It's just not where it should be right now.. I'll have to work on a few things and see if the next two can be made to produce more.

Right now I'm looking at maybe an ounce, and was hoping to see 3-4 on a plant Vegged for 11 weeks (During the 11 weeks I had PH trouble for 4 weeks due to a bad meter) But root growth is explosive right now, I'm in approximately a 6 gallon pot, the roots have grown around inside the drip tray, the coco is filled with roots, I can't even water them too fast or it exposes roots just under the surface of the coco.

Right now I'm wondering if I was expecting more from this LED than it could produce....

And you're right about that, live and learn.

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

Take a clone from her she clones nice and turns into a nice bush for you and toss that one under your CFL'S and do a comparison on weight wise. Of course monster cropping you will get more bud but you can at least eliminate if it's your LED. I don't know if you'll have enough room with your sprouts. But it would be a way to know if your LED is not cutting it.

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

I'm right on the same page as you there, I took a couple cuttings today, although I can't find my rooting powder, so I'm substituting some willow in its place. (Small pets love chewing on the willow sticks, so I always have them on hand) And I was curious to see if it'd work or not.

I'm not expecting a lot from it, if anything, but I figured it was worth a try for now, and if anything might free up plant resources, even though the cuttings were taken so far into flower.

I'm also thinking that my lack of defoliation may have played a part in the slower bud growth I'm seeing. On my previous grow the plants were smaller, with a canopy that wasn't even close to how thick this canopy is, and I'm thinking maybe that's to blame as well since LEDs have slightly better penetration than CFLs, and I'm also using a lower wattage panel.

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

That blue loves to stretch I couldn't keep an even canopy with her, so I just let her go and I think I took a clone from her at 5 weeks and it took (normally 3 weeks ). I really didn't defol her just took the monster fans off her that were blocking other sites. I found that if your not defol in veg and flower doesn't seem to get the same results. And I don't defol in veg so I just go after tucking and removing the big fan leaves. I think my blue finished at around 5' she was almost as tall as me :cheesygrinsmiley:

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

Could be the lower wattage panel my 300 didn't seem to have what the plants needed, was when LED started flooding the market and I got a Chinese nock off sold in the US. Before everybody started realizing the difference in quality (at least me). Thought I did enough research but I was wrong on that one.

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

When I switched to flower, I tried using LST to keep things even, but the main top, and the 4 largest outer tops stretched the most, and everything else grew slower, and is now all about the same height, but it's a good 6" or so below the 5 tallest tops.

I had a few monster fan leaves too, the biggest I've ever had in my grows so far, which I also had to remove, but they were almost the size of my hand..

Next grow I'm considering going back to the same training I did with the CFLs, as I saw good results there. If I can come up with another grow space, I can try the CFL grow experiment. (which will be used for a Veg cabinet in the future)

I'm using TopLED/Mars Hydro Old Model, 100x3. 150-170w total draw. LED Grow Light 100x3w - Mars Hydro
Coverage is close to what I need for the closet, and the price was right, so I went with it.
Previous CFL grow used 361w actual CFL watts, and produced a little over 3 ounces from 2 plants, Vegged 5 weeks for one, 6 weeks for the other.

I also had to move my light up a little, as I was starting to get some light burn/bleaching on some of the top leaves. All these things make me want to say that it's not the light, but I'm still learning, so I'm not 100% sure. But I will find out eventually!

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

It depends on what you're asking about.

Strawberry Blue? Eh.. buds aren't as big as I had hoped for.. Today is day 48 of 65-70 and I have good trichome production, but bud size is piss poor to say the least.

Me personally? Eh again. I'm done helping new members to the forum. I'm sick of spending time to decipher what people ask, spending more time finding the appropriate links to help them or answer questions they have, then being accused of my comment being "smartass" when all I did was provide links, then later being referred to a dumbass with nothing better to do.

This is also why I've removed my grow journal links from my signature. I'm completely done with being treated like a piece of shit because I've only done a few grows.

Some people just shouldn't have internet access..

Damn, brother. I'm sorry to hear that. I was wondering why I hadn't seen you posting as much in the FAQ. Trolls will be trolls and haters will hate. Just gotta let stuff like that roll off your back and keep doing what you do best my friend.

Make no mistake about it Antics. You were good at it. The little troll shouldn't win here. Chalk it up to people being human, forgive then for being such and stay active in the forum. You have much to offer friend. That MOTM wasn't by fluke.

Congrats on having new babies to nurture. Here we go again! :laughtwo::green_heart:

Sweetsue is right that wasn't by fluke at all bro I've never been nominated, but you've helped a lot of people in this community . ( I never did like the trolls) :cheesygrinsmiley: That's a achievement in itself, it isn't there for no reason so don't ever think you haven't been helpful. :thumb:

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

I appreciate the kind words.

Life right now for me is a bit rough, and the extra negativity just irritates me a lot more than normal..

I'm not going to stop visiting the forums or anything like that, I still drop by to check journals, and I still check the FAQs twice a day, I just keep the answer to myself and close the tab :(

I'm sure things will get better eventually, but right now just supposedly isn't my time to be actively posting to help people. Normally, I'd disagree, but when more than 1 member is saying it, as well as other forum people here, they might be right. So for now, I'll just focus my time and energy on improving my grows.

There's a bunch of other people that know more than me that can just as easily answer the questions. :)

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

Yeah don't worry about it Antics. I like looking at those new growers questions too and it's always tricky going out on a limb and trying to be helpful without people thinking you're trying to act like you know everything just because you're giving your opinion. Plus reps for being there.

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

I agree with what everyone has said before me. You where there to help me when I needed help.

My journal is for me if other people get something out of it then that is a bonus.

Keep up the good grows.

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

Maybe my LED was too close @ 12"? First LED Grow - Small Buds?

SBG: I ran into some bleaching of the upper leaves when I moved my LED down to 12", so it's back up at 13" now. And after reading that topic I linked above, maybe this strain doesn't like the LED real close.. I'm going back up to 16" tomorrow.

Don't be dragged down by their negativity, i know its hard bro, we all do and that's why we know you can get through this. Strong people like us learn to rough the bad times to truly appreciate the good times in life. This is all but a test my friend, don't ask yourself why am i like this? Rather why are you treating me like this? Whats so wrong in your life at this point that you have to take time to aggravate me and others?

Its not you my friend, people will only take you down when they think you're above them. Which is ludicrous as we are all the same no matter our emotional state our spiritual selves will always be alligned. I would suggest a 20-60 minute meditation to start healing the negativity than feeding it with anger derived from others or yourself. I hope in some way you can transmute this anger/negativity to love/happiness/peace/positivity, we are all capable all we need is to believe and anything can be achieved......ANYTHING

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

I like your style kid.

re: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

Day 49 of 65-70.

Some of you might remember a recent post where I mentioned I'd be moving the light closer after seeing another grower try it. If not, here's the post: Antics Perpetual Learning Experience

I was at a height of 14", and dropped down to 12". After a few days, I started seeing a little bleaching on a few of the top leaves, so I moved the height back up to 13" and haven't had any trouble with any more bleaching.

IMG_20150326_081500_2121.jpg

Then I did some forum research, trying to find others with a similar problem of slow bud growth with LED, and found this: First LED Grow - Small Buds?
Maybe it's right, maybe it isn't, but I've moved the LED up a few more inches (forgot to measure) but it's back around 14-16" now.

Pistils have mostly turned orange, and a second round of new white pistils is coming out now, so she's growing fairly normal, just some smaller buds than I expected to see at this point...

Anyways, on to the pictures.
