Another Tabletop Crop: Carmen's Spring Grow With Vipar Spectra XS 1500 Pro

These are my replacements that won't germ. I don't know if @NickHardy might be onto something with airport scanners. Why would they nuke stuff from Canada but not elsewhere though? It seems too inconsistent for that. Amnesia Trance sounds yummy!
I suspect my Amnesia Trance seeds from Amsterdam were nuked.

Supplier reports no other problems with that batch, but the one package I've had has been nasty. And, the one seed I've gotten to survive at all looks all mangled and gene damaged. I will upload a pic of it on my journal today.

Nuking seed? Is it happening? I dunno. But the thought had crossed my mind.

Great idea. I'm not sure it would adhere to the cloth though. I don't have a problem using the iron pellets. Is there a reason I should do you think? Where do you get copper tape from?
Maybe put a few stitches into it and sew it on, create a velcro system for it, or just staple it on.

found the tape at the buck store. needed two rolls to go around four 3 gallon fabric pots.
it stuck well and the label said it would last for a few grows but after harvesting I pulled it off to wash the bags.

It sounds like they do that, but it seems pretty random because a lot gets through unscathed too 🤷‍♀️

Staples will work nicely if necessary. Judging from what Regrowth is saying, the tape stuck to his cloth pots all season.

Excellent, good to know. Thank you Regrowth! :high-five:

Hiya Carmen!

Uh I haven’t checked in for two days! Been yeah crashing bakkies and becoming a Step Grandfather 🤣

Sometimes you just get a bad batch of seed.

You do too! RQS here some Wedding Crashers we got 2/6 - since I murdered 25 Girl Scouts I haven’t exercised such death on the planet 😂

On the airport scanning - its rare to get scanned on the outbound too much. There are scanners for explosives and stuff but not the types that mess with seeds. Trust me - finish the bag before the ‘plane lands and you’re fine 🤣

On arrival yeah that’s when the the scanners with wave lengths can mess with seeds. But not in bags or whatever. Great big scanners do a whole container or massive boxes.

Umm gotta trust me. My Dad walked me through the science once (he’s a lawyer not a scientist but worked for probably the biggest vendor of scanners in world)

My farmer mate reckons he hits 10% less germed in his home country than he did in Thailand. When you’re popping 1000’s that’s a big deal but then seeds in Europe are priced in Euros - not more than €1.50 and that’s for something real special. S1.60 USD Generally its $1 a pop.

What about good old fashioned table salt. We all know from being kids that snails and salt don't mix. Why not just sprinkle some salt around the pot?

In terms of irradiating seeds, you're not the only one with a bad batch, so unless they were also irradiated on their way to their US homes, I'd find another culprit.

Salt and soil aren't a good combo for growing plants (see "salting the earth"), but if you had a plant on a solid surface it should work!

Perhaps, but my previous comments stand.

I think LeRugged uses salt. I prefer the iron pellets that don't get watered in so quickly and would appear to be less harmful to the environment.

Thank you. What do you think of the iron pellets?

I wish Canuk would say something about the situation, since it is affecting several growers. They must have some ideas, surely.

Reminds me an old SA cartoon, there’s a horse drinking from a pail of Castle Beer pissing into a bucket marked Lion Beer?
Thankfully there are now a bunch of excellent craft breweries to choose from, long may they last!

These are the plants today. It brings me such joy to see them grow healthily.

Highya Carmen,

What a gorgeous Red Russian Auto!! It's such a joy to gaze athealthy plants with buds like that!! Very nice work. Happy Smokin'

Snail and slug bait is a chemical, iron something-or-other, added to pellets for slugs and snails to eat.
We had some in our garage until a mouse chewed it's way into the bag and ate all of it over the winter.
A bowl of beer works too, but attracts other animals and insects.
We tried it one year. It killed a bunch of slugs, but I saw a skunk drinking from the bowl one morning.
I got small slugs this year on my weed so maybe I'll try it, thanks! Hah! A drunk skunk might be worth the price of admission!

She's beautiful!
