Another Brix In The Wall: Sweet Pink Stink & Coked Out Girl Scout

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

No Rad, stay here, it's cool! Ya , pipe cleaners work awesome bud..have ya tried them yet. I use em every grow, and have found over the years trying different things , i always go back to them cuz of their effectiveness and ease of use...really nothing bad to say about them. You can join them together to make longer ties if ya need too and they are so easy to work with. I have no problem controlling the shape either, not just the height. I like to spread out branches so inner growth can flourish too, and the soft coated pipe cleaners are awesome for that too. Always have a good fist full of them on hand . Cheers Rad and have a great weekend bud!:high-five:

Thanks Duggan - My "take it to another room" might have sounded like 'take it outside" but wasn't.
I almost didn't post the first post because I thought it was to much about me and less about Weenmeoff's growing.

The real point in my mind is that LST works best when it's a routine checkup - like checking water levels in the pots.
(The way my mind works I have to think in terms of routines, or I never actually get stuff done.)

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Rad and Duggan, please feel free to post anything on here. It helps me and others learn. I got this green stretchy non adhesive tape which I didn't really like, I also have wire like Rad which I used with my SCROG. I'm gonna pick up some of them pipe cleaners and give em a try, been wanting to get some for pipe cleaning.

Can I do lst now since I'll sure to run out of room once they start to stretch?

Hey Gaffe! The Goliath does get a little warm but nothing like my 600w HID. average high temp is about 84 and the occasional 90 which is more based on the room temp the tent is in.

When do you guys strip of the under growth?

Yes Rad, great point ya made there about doing it evry day , staying 'on top of it', it's time consuming but has real rewards at finish time. So glad you thru that out there. For these newer growers to realize it takes some dedication and time ,or should we say , passion!..:slide: Cheers Rad...:high-five:

Ween, how hot is your Goliath? Comparable to a small HID?

:passitleft:
Good Q . Gaffle...:thumb:

Ya Ween, you can start LST or SCing any time the plant is ready. If there are 'leaders' like we say, then tie them down to just under the next tallest one. Leave it be. It will try to get back up and in the meanwhile the other lower branches will catch up a bit. If the plants are very small , it's easier to just SC the taller ones, just a good squeeze , not a pinch with your fingernail, ya don't wanna cut into it OK, just squeeze it hard to break the internal membrane, then it will fold over easier. But ya still have to be careful as to not break it. This SCing , is done very close to the top. Come down one node only. All ya wanna do is slow that tip or leader, down some, so the others catch up.
The idea , at least for me , is to maximize yield with my very limited space. I do that by having as many branches as possible as close to the top as possible. A good example of that would be some of Graytail's plants. He was able to get a very flat canopy, most efficient, when there is limited space and light. Another grower would be Noob's (The Red Dragon now:()first tent grow last year, very good job he did training and getting and keeping the canopy level throughout veg and early bloom. His four plants kept him very busy , but it all paid off for him in the end, he had a gorgeous harvest:)
OK,...Ziggs , i know your gonna say..."DRIFTING" ...:rofl::rofl::rofl:(knees buckling).
With the under growth , when there is a lot there , strip it! Have an awesome night Ween , Rad , Gaffle and friends...:Namaste:

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Got it brother. Just gave em some Brix so will give em a couple days before I clean em up.

Have a great weekend all!

:passitleft:

I usually clean up the bottom foliage on the day they go into the flower area and the next BRIX day after the cat drench.

I used to forget the cleanup after buds set - but now that we have the cat drench to remind us that buds are set - including the tiny ones not worth growing to maturity, it's easier to remember. The reason I do it on Brix day is that I pull girls out of the flower area to for a photo-op and a spray. It makes sense to clean up the under growth before the photo session.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

When you bend tops over, think of the shape of a shepherd's crook. :slide:

Duggan squeezes his hard, I just bend 'em, but we both make the same motion - an easy squeeze between finger and thumb and a rotation of the wrist to bend 'em over. They're usually very flexible at the top, not so much lower down.

Since I just Brixed, I'll give em a couple days before clean up because I'm want to give plenty of time for the Brix to absorb, probably stupid but just in case. They're really bushy and some of the undergrowth doesn't look good.

Thanks GT!

They've been flipped! Bring on the flowers and the resin! :woohoo:

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

First day under flower lights is a good day. Congratulations.

Thanks Rad. :passitleft:

Awesome. Looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

Hey LED! :passitleft:

So I trimmed em up good. Got about 1/2 a grocery bag full of leaves and smaller branches, should I put em all in my cooking soil?

The shorter bushier plant has a lot of small top medium branches that are close to reaching the canopy, see pics, wondering if I should clip them to or give em a chance to catch up? Leaning towards the latter.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

The small to medium branches won't catch up, but they will grow small to medium buds.

I usually cut the small small branches all the way back to their branching point. I also rub off leaves growing directly out of lower trunk and branches (to avoid growing too much popcorn.) I don't know if that's the right thing to do. I grow a mix of strains so I can't say how defoliation affects yield - only how defoliation affects trimming after harvest.

This photo you took looks perfect to me :

This one (at your pointer finger,) I would keep

This lower one (at the longest finger,) I would cut back - but it's a close call

Again it's based more on what I want to wash and trim. Not anything I know about yield.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Thanks Rad! Spot on! That smaller one in the last pic should have been cut so will later.

I went ahead and stripped leaves of the stems and put them in my cooking soil.

No signs of roots yet on the clones.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

I'm more interested in quality, my last was my best so far and I'm hoping these will be even better. I got 4.5 zips from the last plant and will be very happy with 3 to 4 zips per plant. These girls are psyched for their first growth energy drench which they will get in a few days.

Thanks Gray! They've been even more so like this since flip a few days ago and stretching like mad.

Yup! They look great eh Gray...nice 'attack' posture for sure:) Really energetic plants Ween. Wait till they get some GE ...yeepa!

Thanks Duggan! I know they're gonna love the GE!

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

So 2 of 4 clones sprouted roots, both money makers, none showing on the special kush yet. I put the money makers in #1's, some roots in the hole and directly on the rapid rooters, straight water. My tomato seedlings are sprouting, I think I planted too many, ha! All cherry varieties which I eat like candy so we'll see.

I'm a little concerned that one of my girls could be a dude, hoping to see some pistils on it soon! The other One has pistils. I th know they're liking the GE they got 3 nights ago.
