Another Brix In The Wall: Sweet Pink Stink & Coked Out Girl Scout

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Hey Hoz! Good to see ya. Not too worried about the sickly veg girls. I think it was low temp and too much Brix spray.

My perfect sun Goliath is not going any higher in this tent and the plants are getting closer, about 2' away and one is +10 so some stretch still coming. They other 2 are +26 so think they're done stretching.

These are seriously beautiful ladies!! Wow!!!!

Thanks you guys! Love this hobby! Every time my lady opens up a jar of the latest harvest, Big Widow, I can't get over how great it smells.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

So SueSweet suggested I try Lembatoasts cloning method. I did a slight variation for myself, I hope that doesn't come back to bite me. Take clippings per normal, remove most of the leaves and make a 70 degree angle cut, dip in cloning gel (what I had was powder,) I soaked my rapid rooters and put them upside down in a small solo cup (upside down because the top is wider than tHe bottom so it's more stable this way) I took the cotton off the end of a Q-tip and pushed in the rooter and put the clone in, I sprayed with very diluted destress, put in a produce bag, blew it up and zip tied it and put them under a CFL. There was a small amount of water in each cup so rooters don't get dry and will check them daily, it's suggested to open the bags in 3 days and add some water. I found this method to be a little awkward.

Wish me luck.

I follow the toast.....you don't need no stinkin luck. I don't practice it but seen it work time & again.

So I tried something like this with solos and upside down rooters lately....it worked. I used a clear plastic drinking cup, slightly smaller than the solos and just placed it on top.

If the inside of the solos were black and they didn't let light in, they would work much better. Let us know how it works.

Your plants look perfect!

an oven roasting bag(for turkeys, roasts, etc) works well too, :thumb:

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

I bought a disposable aluminum roaster pan with a clear plastic lid, filled it with soil, dipped the cuttings in rooting powder and 'planted' them. In two to three days I had roots growing and ended up with 5 healthy plants out 5 cuttings. Just food for thought.

I have no doubt in toasts skills. I guess I still question my skills. I've had success with cloning but my last try did not work which is why I am trying this method.

Thanks Doc! I have been using 1 liter soda bottles cut in half with some holes in them placed over solo cups but sue suggested I try toasts method.

Mm mm, turkey. We roasted one up they other day and been having my favorite leftover, turkey Apple cheddar sandwiches, yum!

Sounds like a great, inexpensive cloning setup, props! Thanks for dropping by my journal.

Ween, couple things, if your gonna try and train that leader , that far down, it's better to tie it down a lil OK. SCing is a pinching and folding over like that but way further up, not down so far, that indicates to me , you let her get too out of hand.:) Try and just pinch and break the internal membrane , you will feel it break as you squeeze /pinch it. After you feel that,.. fold it over to 90 degrees , very slowly, as to not break the outer skin. Sometimes what ya gotta do is rub it and warm it up a lil , before you try and do this. If you can keep doing this thru veg and into early bloom, it will have a more level canopy and will be a bushier/higher yielding plant.
Havin fun yet Ween,...how's the harvest tastin ...:high-five:

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Ok thanks duggan. I hope she'll be ok. It was the only ladder that far out of control, about 3-4 inches above the rest. Otherwise it's fairly level.

Thinking I should flip soon. If they double in size I'll run out of space unless LST or SC. Should I go ahead and lst now? I have about 30-36" to the light.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

They got a big drink of straight RO yesterday. Wondering if they are big enough now to do 1 RO or should I stick with 2?

I super cropped a couple leaders, I hope I did it right.

On a seedling I start LST after topping, when a branch grows about 3 inches past the highest branching point.

On a clone, I start LSTwhen it is 3-5" tall.

A lot of it is about personal choice.

Personally, I only supercrop when I am desperate. The last time was when my leader grew within 4 " of the flower light and the light could not be raised any higher. Then I supercropped about 10". It worked !

Mornin Ween, ya with SCing,..try and catch those leaders when they're only an inch or two taller than the rest, that way you just have to pinch it a lil to slow that one down,..know what I mean...instead of getting drastic like you did there OK. Don't wait so long next time. If you only have 36" to the light , I would flip now and keep an eye out for 'runaways' over the next couple weeks. Cheers bud! :high-five:

Thanks Rad! I usually LST early but decided to skip it this time, only topped once. I had a coup,e leaders and the sc actually evened it out good, the one in the pic is reaching for the light today and the canopy is pretty even.

Thanks Duggan. I'll keep that in mind and will flip in the next couple days. she bounced back from the SC.

She does look a nice shape.

As I LST, I am constantly lowering the leading buds and releasing the buds I lowered few days ago.

I have little hooks made out of spare 12 & 14 guage electrical wire. I push the wire deep into the soil below the area I want to hold. Once the wire is in the soil, I bend it over a branch I want to hold. (This wire has one twisty end for going in the soil and has a hook because that's how I hang them between uses.)

20161210_103429-1.jpg

To start out, I put in two wires to hold down the two leaders and encourage lower branches to catch up.

20161210_103610-1.jpg

One can use different methods to hold down the branches, but I find frequent adjustments satisfying. Something to do while waiting for water and nutes to soak int the pots.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

OK, couple things...lose the wire, try those soft coated 'pipe cleaners from a dollar store. Just put a lil hook in the end and tie to the edge of the pot...works the best. Don't go sticking that wire in the soil,..no need to ! A lot of us use them, they are the best for tieing down and training OK. Second thing, you don't have to keep releasing them OK, just let that particular leader catch up , by herself , she doesn't need your help, .The trick is to train , or tie them down JUST BELOW the next tallest one..it will repair itself and catch back up in a day or two, but you don't have to "release" them. Cheers , hope this helps bud!

I started out with many many holes and stuff tied to the edge of the pot, but I find I like to nudge things around in 3 dimensions. Maybe these pipe cleaners are stiffer than I imagine, but if they can only pull in a straight line from a hole, I't is rather limitting.

I release the lower leaders because I want my branches to grow in more of a vase shape than a manifold shape. I'm controling the branch shapes and direction as well as the height of branch tips. --- Considering the 'fluxing' technique, I guess that might be only a matter of aesthetics. On the other hand, the natural grow shape of a cannabis plant tends more to straight branches and V shaped crotches than gnarly up and down branching. Do you think dipping or horizonal branches flow as well as straight, more upright branches?

If I'm too far off topic here, we can take it to another room :)

No Rad, stay here, it's cool! Ya , pipe cleaners work awesome bud..have ya tried them yet. I use em every grow, and have found over the years trying different things , i always go back to them cuz of their effectiveness and ease of use...really nothing bad to say about them. You can join them together to make longer ties if ya need too and they are so easy to work with. I have no problem controlling the shape either, not just the height. I like to spread out branches so inner growth can flourish too, and the soft coated pipe cleaners are awesome for that too. Always have a good fist full of them on hand . Cheers Rad and have a great weekend bud!:high-five:
