Update: State of the Garden
That’s just a little eye candy from the Autos to get us started
This time last season, 3 different strains (2 indicas and a sativa dominant hybrid) were all pushing pistils and lots of them (top, side, e’rywhere). This season, apart from the false start Critical Mass had before it started preflowering all over the place, there are still no pistils in any tops. I’m yet to inspect today.
I’m developing a possibly dubious theory about this but hear me out, let’s see what you think.
FYI, I have no possible light at night issues. It’s the bush, miles away from any town and we have no outdoor lights.
Last season there was a dark moon in mid January, about 3 weeks after the summer solstice. All plants had lots of pistils by the 26th of Jan, about 10 days after that dark moon.
This year, there was a dark moon a few days after the solstice and then not another one until now, (Sunday/Monday coming).
I’m beginning to wonder if, outside, it’s a combination of daylight hours reduction
and very dark nights that is needed to trigger flower onset.
It could be nothing like this and I may be way off track. I certainly know that moonlight isn’t enough to interfere with flowering once its happening. I’m just wondering about the triggering of flower-start because I’m wracking my brains as to why things this year would be so much later like this...
... It’s something to make a note of here in any case - so I am - for the purposes of observation over the coming years.
Perhaps not incidentally, my gardening partner noted that everything seems to be happening late this year, including fruiting of things like beans and cucumber. I hope that means the cool humid weather that usually comes in April is delayed as well
SO! On with the show!
White Widow continues to impress. Some of the lowers and side shoots have turned into full blown branches with a growth explosion over the last week.
That got a big tidy up pruning today.
The raised bed - lookback I like to do this a bit as it helps me better see what changes are happening. This is 2 weeks ago on Jan 18.
And then yesterday...
This is all pre prune btw. I hope preflower is different to flowering stretch with regard to pruning because I just took a lot of tiny shoots down low on all the branches off.
No matter really - it has way more tops than I expected so will get plenty for my needs in any case.
Critical Mass
I dont have after pruning shots. I didn’t want the distraction of documenting. It was wonderful to just sit quietly looking at all their parts and taking off little bits here n there as they caught my attention.
Candida CD1
Still has the dropsy sometimes - not in these photos tho. I think I’ve noticed that its either a heat thing or a light intensity thing. The harsh Australian sun is fiercer than that Canadian sun where this was bred. I’m pretty sure some of the genetic work was done outdoors, maybe all. There is certainly lots of outdoor pics on their site. Or, it’s any bright light when its hot. This one stands to attention when there is cloud cover so her best days are those not too hot ones where there is a very light covering of cloud - so still plenty of light but not searing. Yesterday was like that - these shots are then.
This one is after standing tall all night - without leanback.
Then after being leant back for the day.
And from above (after leaning back)
The day before all these pics, everyone got a big hearty Transplant Drench at 1.5ml per soil gal (and 10% of what ever that amount was in ml of Tea), given the day after some rain. We’re expecting rain again in a day or so. Depending on how much that is, I’ll factor it in to the between drench watering. If it’s big rains, i may just make the next drink a full Growth Drench. Depends how soon it Is, and how much it is.
I suppose this is how the wallaby sees it...
The Autos
They’re both bulking up now. I haven’t touched them training wise for about 10days. I‘ll be interested to see how things finish up.
Sucker Punch
I’d missed some lowers of lowers I think so snipped of a few buds in the total shade or where water would get caught down low. It’s a bit thick!
MiG29
The critter of the week tradition was born because I would have an encounter with every trip to the garden and bush plants. Even tho I’m not out in th bush this year, the encounters still happen. This amputee huntsman spider had taken up residence on the MiG pot! Happy under the shade of the burlap sack and exposed when I removed the sack for a bottom up watering.
surprise!
It’s a very furry furry one
... FYI the lip of that tray is a bit over an inch in size.
Topping off my week, 2 great things happened. Prizes came in the post
Thank you 420 and Dope Seeds! I’d forgotten what I ordered, then remembered that I’d been thinking about using autos to audition some of the photos I have to help me decide which ones to run
could be flawed, but its a way to have some fun with more seeds than I can grow! Plus - I’ve loved this white widow so much to grow i thought it couldn’t hurt to have more - it will be a great one for sharing some seeds with folks around here when the opportunity comes. Northern Lights too. I have lots of those now
Then, the best thing.
I’ve wanted to do this for really long time and thanks to the generosity of a friend...
It starts next week sometime. Should be awesome. I’ve been using their website for a long time with just a free
membership and learnt heaps. I’m really looking forward to it. Change is coming here and people are already asking me about stuff. I’m getting ready.
Thanks for your company my friendly garden companions, lurkers and whoever else may stumble in...
