Amy Gardner’s High Brix Dreams

Moving quick in here! Like Daj said, she will grow upwards some now with the Ge. If the leaves are healthy then leave them for now. Once she gets a little bigger you may wanttho clean her up a bit. That's a major debate on here even amongst the bestest of growers, there are many ways to skin a cat, poor kitty. She's looking good !

:passitleft:
Ikr... what kinda saying is that! Guess they used tk skin a lot of cats way back in the day!

Cut one pill and it is liquid inside :) so now wondering how many pills I need to cut..:D
I’m not sure about the other ingredients in there K. I honestly think you’d be better off to make it without, it will still work - it works a lot better with the liquid lecithin. My first batch I used for a while before the lecithin arrived and it was ok.

If I get a chance after I’ve done the update, Ill drop your question n the cannabis oil study thread and see what the knowledgeable folks over there have to say.

In terms of quantity - i’ve heard anything from 1/2 to a whole tablespoon per cup of oil. :thumb:

Update Blue Dream #1: Day 30

I’m probably more surprised than anyone that I didn’t just follow the directions to the ‘letter’. I had every intention of doing so. But cultivating isn’t exactly a ‘letter-of-the-law’ kind of thing, as we all know. In excellent nerdy fashion I have been reading, alongside this grow, the Doc Bud’s High Brix ‘tutorial’ thread that Darkscotia and Doc ran for us last year and picking up on things there :nomo:. So, the first outcome from that was that the first water, last week, was a plain water because everything seemed to be really humming along. Similarly this time, I followed what Doc did for his plants at that time and gave a Growth Ionic (aka Growth Energy) drench instead of a Transplant. If anyone in the future is interested in the brief discussion we had about ths over in the DBHBB Q&A, it is here.

I was inspired after taking the long exposure shots of the tent’s light leaks, so last Saturday I pulled Blue Dream out of the tent a little while to experiment with photographing in ambient indoor light. I kept this one because it is pretty - you can see the colours better than the rest I took yesterday under the LED. I love it because it really shows of the Blue that’s coming through:

Then I spent a fair amount of Sunday wondering if it was ready for that first Drench - it looked, maybe ‘something’ again. I checked the soil and it was still a bit dark in colour but almost dry. I left it and then in the morning it was clearly in need. Maybe I let it go too far... (this was straight after the drench - for anyone who missed it a few days ago)

But it picked up pretty well again afterwards and by 5hrs later things were perky. I took the rest of the pictures yesterday morning, about 24 hrs after the drench. Still experimenting with light settings for photography in the tent - all these are not quite right yet but I’m having fun playing with it :)

And last, but not least, for @InTheShed - the ‘bowl of salad’ pic! It’s really hard to photograph the structure, because it’s totally obscured!

So, in summary, a few things went into why I gave a Growth Ionic drench.

As noted, DB has done this at times when everything seemed really well hooked up and the plant was powering. Mine seemed to be and 9 bladed leaves are starting to appear so I thought what the hey, hey?

Then there was the likelihood (possibility?) that the Growth Ionic drench might help the get the nodes stretching out a bit and open up the structure and I really wanted that!

And finally, the moon. I said I wouldn’t ever compromise my plants just for moon cycle related things, and I really won’t - but I aim for alignment whenever possible and I’ll happily be swayed by it when it’s relevant. This was one of those times. The moon is still waxing so that means focus is still on above ground growth. At the end of this week we pass the full moon and focus goes below the soil over the 2 weeks following. So the notion that I’d likely be giving the Transplant with around the start of the waning cycle appealed to my inner moon child and clinched the deal. There is still plenty of time for the roots to go nuts.

Today is Brix day - I have it all ready to go (not mixed yet) at the tent entrance and lights come on in about 2 minutes. I’ll do it a little while after that.

First Drench... first Brix... we’re rolling. :slide:

Thank you all for coming along on the ride with me.

:Namaste:

@dajerm119 @weenmeoff I know! the ‘skinning a cat’ saying seems very “anachronistic” - not to mention gruesome  We’ve reprised it around here, domesticated it a bit, it’s become “ many ways t do the dishes” or “many ways to hang out the washing” ... simply “many ways to grow cannabis” would seem the best option to me though! :thumb:

Ween, thanks for responding about the leaves. I’m always of the “don’t prune unless totally essential” school of practice - which comes from growing outdoors. I always trim and tidy the bottoms of the plant - but never usually do anything at all this soon, and usually never remove fans if I can help it. This is going to need to change a bit indoors I can see. I am mostly thinking about that lower stuff now because its all bunched up in the pot and close to the soil and made dunking a real challenge! I think I broke a top leaf blade in the process. I’m leaving it for now though and will see what happens after this drench ...

Might as well supplement the update with a post Brix photo! I used 32drops of Brix in about 30-40mils of filtered water (rain water). I didnt measure, i just eyeballed 1/3 of a small atomiser bottle I bought especially for this purpose. It makes a superfine spray in short bursts so teh risk of overdoing to is small. :)

Post Brix - 5minutes ago...

looking great Amy! Been following along for a bit but this journal moves as fast or faster than the stanks! Your girl is loving life under that light you built!

And don't worry about that wilt, you caught her right in time! If you want to see wilt ill show you a pic of my girls sometime ... They like the torture though, always bouncing back to life within a few minutes.

hope you're having a splendid day/night way over there!

Thanks Pj :high-five: I was having trouble keeping up myself there for a bit. NOt what I expected from a little single plant grow ;). I expect it might settle down now that most of my setup is sorted out and decided on as I wont have so many questions to ask, or options to ruminate over.

That said, I’m sure I’ll find more things to talk about... the topping and training will be next. I’m following Doc’s lead there too for this grow as it’s quite differnt to what i’ve done before. In the past, I’ve always topped by now, unless I was growing it ‘natural’...

That’s good what you say about wilt - I was hoping that was just droop, not actual wilt and the speed and vigour with which it bounced back was a great sign for that. :thumb:

Continuing on wth the update that doesn’t end... ;)

i decided to employ my outdoor technique of a little leaf tucking to let some of that super bushy undergrowth get some more direct light so I thought i’d snap a couple of pics of it:

It currently has 10nodes with the next one on its way! I’m going to top it soon I think

So you other folks with the QB panels, what sort of distance from the light do you like best at this stage?

:Namaste:

You're doing the same thing I'd be doing with that plant. :high-five:

I'd be perfectly comfortable at 2 feet with plants that size. One of the luxuries of these panels though, is that it doesn't really seem to make a whole lot of difference. Everything gets blasted as long as they're exposed to the panels. I was looking back in my thread at the Zam+ and realized that I forgotten to point out that all those floppy branches at the bottom with the record-dense nuglets grew their entire lives 3 feet from the lights. :p

I get nervous around 16 inches though. The tops definitely don't like that. How many watts/sqft are you at? I'm thinking you're in the 30-35 range? I'm at 25 in veg for 20/4. We have to remember Daily Light Integral, too. When you run longer hours, you need less power and vice versa. That's why we need to power up for bloom.

In any case, 2 feet is safe. :thumb:

You're doing the same thing I'd be doing with that plant. :high-five:
:high-five: :adore: I’m a worthy grasshopper then :laughtwo:

Thanks Gray - I’ll check I’m not inside the 2’ zone. I really hope it gets some length soon, I think it grea about half an inch in height overnight. I might have to hang my SweetSue inspired dangly things in there to give me quick reads on the height - one day I know I’ll kind of just be ble to see it, but for now I think I’ll install a guide at 2’ ...

:Namaste:

And yes - currently I’m a bit under 30/sq’ and can turn it up a little bit if needed. That’s with a 2.5 sq’ grow zone. If I keep it contained within 2x2’ i’ll Be better. I’ll take some more readings with the cheap lux meter and post them this time :)

It's all good. Called my fellow pharmacist and he gave a green light, so I've made 1-1/2 cups of coconut oil with 10 g trim and 2 g bud.
Regarding strength, I'll be testing the oil tonight and see how much I need it :)
