Alafornia's 1st Time Multistrain Medical Grow

Damn Ala all your girls are damn sexy but all these large photos got my internet acting up and running slow as a mouse with 1 leg. Keep in mind im still on dial up.

BR, I figured you were past 40 like me and needed them big and close in. I declined bifocals. :D

Hey Al - looking mighty fine again. I’m always very fond of the lunchtime pic :yummy: even when it’s late ;)

Hiya Tangled :ciao: :welcome: to 420! Great that you’re able to join in. I have been wanting to share some experience with Al about using CBD in bipolar disorder, and other conditions involving the potential for mania, so its great to have you both here. I’ve posted about it in my journal and the med threads so I’ll just seek out those posts and link them here, once I find them
:Namaste:

And Al, another topping tech, that I am currently using for the first time, is the Uncle Ben’s Topping technique. This give a similar effect and outcome to the quadlining method but with much less stress on the plant because there is no massive leaf removal. Basically you grow to about 4-5 nodes and then chop off all nodes except the first two. You then get 4 mains with a number of secondary branches coming up the center (depending on the plants genetics). I’ve been documenting it in my current journal.

This was Bubba Hash pre-topping (had just started pushing out node #6)

These are after topping ...

And this is a few days ago only 3weeks and 2 days later. Bubba is on teh right, it’s hard to tell, but each of those 4 mains is now a lot bigger/taller than the plant was when I topped it.

In the coming days I’ll grab a pic from the side that shows it better.

As you can see from all our responses about topping and training, there are many ways to do it! Including not doing it! :laughtwo:

Often folk just pinch out the 3rd, 4th or 5th node as soon as its out. My first topping I did that. I pinched out the 4th node and then pinched out the tops of the 2 new tops that came up from that and had 4 mains that way (that actually took more growing time than the UBT tho and didnt produce the 4 strong mains that the UBT does). Others like to let the plant grow up a bit more and then take more off. This lets you know you have a good healthy plant and a decent root system before you act.

It’s also true that many growers like to grow a plant without topping at all the first time around to see what the growth structure is like, but many of them are long time growers with perpetual garden setups and many other plants on the go. Topping or training/bending will definitely get you better yields than not doing either.

So I know that’s sound in theory. But it doesn’t account for the many “water only” grows that people do. :hmmmm:

Thank you very much. Looking forward to further discussions on both training and strains.

Your plants are really looking strong now Alafornia :high-five::morenutes:

Mr. B, you can and will do it again. I have been in your shoes. 1st was cold turkey. Last time patch and gum. Since you knew you could before you'll know when this time. We'll cheer you on when you're ready.

Thank you so much! :Namaste:

I say to my self everyday that I wish I could just put it down, I feel the addiction has intensified since I quit cold turkey. I also quit 11 months and I quit 9 month as well on a prescription called champix on two different occasions. I see my daughter everyday and think damn I want to be here for her!

Mr.A your plants are looking great, I look forward to you dabbling into topping and training.:thumb:

Yup. Gonna have to top and train but I feel a bit lost/overwhelmed by it. Lunch was FUBAR today so later guys. Thank for all the positive words.

... took some catching up. Well worth the read. Haven’t been getting out as much.
Just want to say..

...making a video. Mrs Alafornia thinks I’m a dork. I am....Thoughts?

I want to see the video of @Tangled telling you that!
Hi mrs Al! Good to see ya! You got a keeper. Don’t tell him that.

...was in a band or two - should have known we'd never get far, oh but when I look back then, that summer seemed to last fore...oh, where was I? ...

Al, are you sure you’re not a stoner?

Good to see your girls putting on some height :)

Hey Al, what's shaken ?
how's the weather in my home state that I'll never go back to.

They look like a church choir and we are your congregants enjoying the showing. So glad I got a front pew. Best service ever for me.

Hallelujah! Glad to have you, sister!

Boy, that just warms your heart. Those plants look super happy, my friend.

Thanks, FEF! They do look happy. I'm proud and hope I manage to keep it up.

So do I. Now would be the time to start thinking about how to top and/or train your plants, including spacing issues. As Amy said, topped/trained plants produce a lot more bud.

I am flat out asking for direction from anyone willing to give it.

First, my thoughts:

Maybe Orange Sherbet, Northern Lights, and Nikita should be topped (FIM'd?) . After that I'm lost.

I could see quadlining Westley (at this point she is an extra bonus plant) and/or OGK CBD and/or MH. That seems to be a tricky technique, though, and I may have waited too late.

Blueberry is already acting as if she were topped. I suppose I could train her outward almost like a quadline but not really one.

I welcome your and others' thoughts.

Too late. I heard you. Can't take it back. :D

Today I wish I was. :D

I'm in love with someone besides my wife or dog - Seven lovely girls.

When you top (i have done that, correctly I don't know) and/or train I am front and center. Isn't cool being both teacher and student. Psyched!

Front pew, sister! Yeeeeaaauuuuusssss! (that's how it worked in the church I grew up in)

Hey Al, what's shaken ?
how's the weather in my home state that I'll never go back to.

Sunny, dry, and hot. My home state would have to get this cannabis thing sorted out for me to consider going back.

Nikita has beautiful 11bladed leaves!:yummy: That’s not very common.

It’s genetics mostly, but plants also need excellent growing conditions to express those lovely traits :welldone:

I actually had not noticed until you said it. Thank you! No joke - I actually prayed over her and Westley when it all went south for a bit. Thank God! She does look divine, so...

Thank you all for the encouragement.

11 blades? Sounds like freddy kreuger!

Ala plants looking good. I been doing some more research on those nutes I told you about and they have good reviews and seem pretty simple plus all organic. Just have to raise PH up a bit and feed. I am gonna order a bottle see if the fish smell dont make me and the mrs have to sleep outside in a tent.

Hey Good evening Al!

Using this as a reference (I’m sure there’s better photos but this is what I have at hand)

After topping you can tie higher branches down to let the lower ones catch up.

Cut about 1-2 cm above the internode, leaving the fan leaves and branches just above the fan leaves in tact below your cut line. Hope this helps!
