First time making oil for capsule from the home stash.
I'll go ahead and get the mistakes out of the way:
I forgot to put lecithin in the batch after straining.
While straining I lost some trying to use a fork and spoon to squeeze a little extra out - nearly lost the whole damn thing.
As it is I wound up with 12 capsules instead of closer to 22 like I anticipated.
I didn't take the time to read the book on how to use the machine so just used the canning setting which is a few degrees higher than 230F/110C. I think it was 246F.
Coffee filters are OK but I think I'll order some cheesecloth since I couldn't find any locally.
@Tangled is going to try it out tonight and give her take.
Next time I'll be a little more patient and try to get everything closer to perfect.
The capsule machine really shaves some time off the process and it's less than $30.
Basically, I used 20 ml of coconut oil and 2.5 grams of OG Kush CBD ground flower. I put that together into a pint mason jar. I filled the inner pot up to the level of the oil in the jar with the jar sitting up on the included "stand" to keep it away from the bottom (which gets hotter than the water does). I just placed the lid on loosely where it could vent but was unlikely to let water in (none got in).
After the Instant Pot was done and cooled I drained the still warm oil into the filter to strain. I used a 10 ml syringe to pull up the oil and push it into the capsules. I had some butterfly tubing attached. It seems the small caliber made moving the oil difficult so I may try something different next time unless I used olive oil, which should be a little easier to work with. Maybe.
