AKGramma's Perpetual Grow

Here is a quick shot of my veg unit. The ladies are really filling in, and the Autos are showing!

The leaflets on the dying Yummy aren't big enough to take good shots of, so, like I said in the last post, they have a bit of time to reveg before I positively decide to terminate her.

Checked the seeds tonight and three of them had 1/4" roots! This morning just one was barely peeking out of its seed case! Good thing I checked and got them in their solo cups! I separated and labelled the three that Sue thinks are female, so we shall see if that pans out.

Just three more to go, then the sprouting stage is done. Sticking with just one strain to produce seeds and what's left will go for rolls and ground herbs.

As soon as they emerge from the soil, they'll go into the smaller veg unit with the Yummy I put back under veg.

I brought Yummy out and trimmed off her crispy leaves and found enough left, including a few new green tips down below, to hope that she is coming back.

So the day ended on an upbeat. :thumb:

Sharing a thought I expressed on TheMadDabber's journal:

The discussion was how the age of the bud's aroma changes over time. My reply was:

My bubblelicious grow gave me several harvests. The more recent jarred buds gave me a somewhat subtle lemony-herbal scent at 3 months. The older batch, over 6 months old was DANK, heavily piney! Apparently different ancestors express themselves at different stages of the cure.

Morning to ya AK :-)

So very sorry to hear that you had unwanted visitors!! But very happy to hear you are safe and sound and nothing was taken. Top security is worth its weight in gold, we have cameras everywhere which made it helpful to find our lil visitor :-) the days of not locking your doors sadly has passed us by but, on the bright side, ammo prices have increased significantly enough that we can’t afford warning shots.............just saying

Seriously, the most important thing is that you and yours are safe AK, even if they had taken things, in the big plan of life those things don’t really mean anything, love and family are what matters. If ya need to borrow a bullet we got some spares we loan to friends :-)

Blessed Buds our friend and be well :passitleft:

Yes, AB, you certainly need the full security system with YOUR grow. Mine is laughable compared to yours!

I beefed up the security on all doors and windows. I figure, when the trailer shifted with the change in temp, one door that used to be very hard to open, close, and lock, got unlocked, and that is how they got in. Am going to put a hand bolt on it today just in case another ground shift separates the dead bolt from the frame..

I'm more concerned with personal safety than what they take, but one does worry about personal info on the PCs, so they are tethered down with cables.

I have a taser coming. I bought the model that looks more like a Star Trek phaser, so there won't be any issues with it looking like a gun if I have to defend myself while out and about. I can't shoot and run like one is supposed to, so I'll have to stand my ground. At my age, I don't give a shit. I get MAD! Will also carry something in my walker to beat the shit out of anyone who tries to accost me.

The Grow:

Two of the sprouts emerged from the soil this morning. Both the seeds in the paper towel and those sprouts now in soil got a water spray today to keep them moist. All are under CFLs to prevent burning and that maddening seedling stretch.

The autos are filling out nicely. but it's going to be a couple months before they are even close to harvest. The little Yummy hasn't started towards amber yet, but is so gummy with rosin, I hope the buds don't get smothered. Small plant, 10 small buds. A novelty at best.

In some places bear mace is illegal. I often tell the ladies to put a can of easy off oven cleaner in their purse. An attacker gets a face full of easy off and they will stop dead in their tracks. Explaining why you have a can of oven cleaner to the law is the tricky part lol. But its much cheaper than mace.

Sorrry to hear about the attacker, but very glad to hear they didn't succeed in what they were trying to do! Security is for sure a number one issue in my town, it's known that grow houses were robbed or burnt down just for the hell of it, over silly feuds or jealousy! Which is the east coast of Canada if your wondering, but the reason I'm commenting is to say nice grow AK, you got yourself a beautiful setup and Gorgeous girls growing !! Happy growing friend

A Taser is legal here and requires no firearms registration, because it is not a weapon. It doesn't use gunpowder to launch the probes, but a gas. A short metal pry bar to beat them shitless with, will keep them busy till the PD arrives, and will give standers-by a good show.

Bear mace is VERY legal here, cause, guess what? We get bear attacks along the trails people jog and bike on. Everyone who goes out to the woods are encouraged to carry some. Open and concealed carry are legal, too, with registration and proper training.

The Jock Horror Autos are expressing their ruderalis ancestry in a big way, mostly in height, but also in lack of uniformity.

I have flowering ladies measuring from 11" in full bloom to a 20" lady who is just barely showing pistils. The others are staying small and full, and just starting to show the floret-effect of the growing tips, with a few paired pistils emerging. I had expected taller plants, as my first auto, an Autoberry, grew to 48" before harvest.

I wonder if the give and take is worth growing autos: losing height and yield for the simplicity of growing them.

It's going to take more work to grow the photos out and get a decent number of large buds, dealing with the switch in lights and nutes, etc, etc.

The upside is that the autos will be done and out of the way when I put the new AK47xDurban Poisons in the veg unit for 3 months. Another upside is that I don't have to stress over less-than-perfect buds, as I'm growing them for seed production.

Still waiting on 3 seeds in the paper towel to sprout, and 3 sprouts in soil to emerge. Bottom line, I have 3 seedlings so far under a pair of 23W CFLs, for a total of 9 for this project.

The seedlings are filling out. Got one Mute, which is doing better than the rest, and one runt whose second cotyledon never developed, but was shrivelled , then dried up and fell off.

I think this is all I am going to have out of 10 seeds (lost one to being a klutz, and another that failed to thrive). So this bunch of seeds had a 70% sprout rate, with a 50% survival rate. Hoping for a male, so I can proceed with the seeding project.

I didn't take a photo of the veg unit, because it's hard to distinguish the individuals in all the green. Even after the stretch, the autos stayed short, so am chalking that up to a Lowryder ancestor.

I have to give a shout out to GrEeNdAyZ at GrEeNdAyZ - DIY CFL - White Widow - Indoor Soil - No Tent - Winter '17 for the great colas that came out of the mainlining project!

Definitely quality over quantity.

It is inspiring me to try mainlining again in the future. My first try at it was not all that satisfying. It was a lot of work, and I wasn't happy with the results. However, I chalk that up to using a clone to mainline, instead of a seeded specimen.

I am, however, eliminating a lot of minibuds by trimming out veg that will never pan out. I see more uniformity in the buds that are left.

The Jock Horror autos are forming single 3/4" florets instead of colas. Must be a strain thing.

A couple of specimen shots.

The Little Auto That Could is still only a tad over 7 inches tall, but her buds are filling in, and she is one COLA, with 10 or more florets.

This Jock Horror Auto is among the short and bushy pehontypes, and farthest along of the JH's.

So far the limited grow is going as planned, hoping to keep it within two shelving units.

The last 3 seeds in the paper towel are dead. The outer spotted membrane has sloughed off and the casings are brittle. These three were plump, promising seeds, but I guess you can't tell how good they are from sight. So, out of 10 seeds, I have five that have survived their sprouting, including the runt. The triple-leafed mute is quickly passing up the others. The runt is still very tiny, but still alive. So I wait, and keep them moist.

This batch is much healthier than the last grow, as I'm remembering to give them a through feeding every week.

I found some powdered seaweed extract on Amazon that is good for 66 gallons. For the price of ONE bottle in liquid form, I'll have enough to last over a year!

Looking good AKG! The JH auto looks really promising, and her little sis is filling in beautifully. Great work!

Yes they are looking very nice AK!! I’m liking the looks of the Carmel.......mmmmmm I love Carmel’s lol.

FYI: The Cream Caramel is from CDB Crew. It was bred for medicinal, not recreational use. But it does have a decent THC content of over 20%, with a CBD content of over 1%.

I was reading over at TheMadDabber's forum on a discussion of bud washing. Just a thought:

There is going to be some tric loss, esp if you aren't careful about the temp of the water.

I used to haul the ladies to the shower to give them a hard spray before the trics started forming, but I can't lift the pots any more.

So, I gave up washing the buds in favor of periodic wash downs with plain water and a good hand-operated spray bottle, and esp before harvest. I get really close to the buds and spray them from the bottom and all around.

The Cream Caramel is supposed to be ready between 8 and 10 weeks from seed. Today is 9 weeks since she emerged from the soil, and she is quickly preparing for the end. Her pistils have all collapsed into the buds and the upper bud pistils are all amber. Lotsa trics, but I cannot see the difference between cloudy and clear, not even with a loupe.

So, I'm going to cut her Sunday, which will be 10 weeks. Since she is all cola, it's one cut, trim off the fan leaves and hang her upside down till she's dry. :-)
