AKGramma's Perpetual Grow

There wasn't much to clone or top today, but I managed to take 3 cuttings. Using soil less medium: half and half perlite and vermiculite is standard solo cups with hole in bottom. The jar is under 24/0 under a small CFL in a desk lamp, which has worked for me previously.

Ladies in veg are filling out nicely from previous topping for cloning, all of which failed in the water only method. :-(

I did inspect all the ladies in both units and saw very few mites on a couple of old leaves, so I sprayed all of them under and over with Neem. I always run my hand over and through the plants from bottom to top when I spray to make sure the leaves are covered all over. They seem to like being handled/stroked/petted.

We're expecting light rain later tonite, and the temp is down to 68 F here at the house. I have all the fans going and the main windows open to get that nice fresh air through.

Obviously I changed my mind about adding soil to the clone cups. I poured water through the cups to wet the soil less media, let it drain, then poked holes with a skewer. Using standard cutting and trimming methods, I prepped the clones, dipped them in rooting powder, and put them in the holes, tamping the medium firmly around the stems. Since the dome is covered, I only removed the lower fan leaves and did not trim the upper leaves. If i see any signs of wilting, however, I'll trim those back.

All of Frilly Lady's tips are busy making flowers and flowers and flowers, with lots of thick single-fingered leaves. So there is nothing to really clone without really damaging a future cola. Since I can't clone her, I may have to leave her bottom foliage and try to reveg... again.

Here are some closeups of Frilly Lady under the lights. Her flowers are still small and the buds have not started to fill out yet. Again, I don't know why the first & third ones are rotated. I DID rotate them in edit.

They suffered a little from the heat.

This is a throw-back phenotype of Nirvana's Bubblelicious, which has a skunk #1 parent.

Very aptly named. :battingeyelashes: She looks like she's just really gearing up. I love this stage. Who am I kidding? I love every stage. :laughtwo:

I was always a big fan of the "15 minutes after harvest stage." ;)

I made it to this journal too :) You too seem to be growing like I will be,,, and when I do.. a journal will be written too ...when my paranoia leaves..or maybe law changes before that :D

Cloning is something I will do too if seeds turn out to be female.

"Going to try a seed bank that accepts PayPal,"
buying a prepaid card like pay safe and buy bitcoins...is another way to stay incognito? I am looking into this option. Cant seem to find a CoD option to my part of the map...

If you're overseas. you have more options for payment than I do. None will ship COD, however. Bit coin was too complicated for me to understand, and I have no reason to resort to a currency with no guarantees. So, I'll put up with the authorization call to the CC, so I can get exactly what I want.

I hope things work out for you. This is a great site to learn from experienced growers. :thumb:

Hi
yes indeed it is a full university here.. I have read journals for months..and just recently registered.
I am in Europe (Greece) and here it is still illegal to grow.We just had a few (36) from the parliament putting in a request ( or bill?) for its legalization. ( Dont know the correct terms)
I grew up in another part of Europe and with everyone calling it narcotics... and I don't smoke it myself..but I am deeply impressed with the medical part of the whole thing.
And Since I never liked conventional/ traditional medicine for anything.. (headaches/IBS/coughs etc.. I have been reading about cbd oil for years. and it took some time to get past the "oo no it is baaad" part of thinking...Now I have accepted the fact that it is actually not a drug..and cigarettes are actually MORE bad for you..
I am building up experience on the whole process of growing, alltough it will take some time for me to grow.. Don't want to mess with the law.
The way you grow ( and Tortured Soul) is my way of thinking. I have always been a DIY person and I like the cloning bucket you have.
I have it figured out in my head for when the time comes. How and where to grow, things needed. Organic (homemade nutrients) growing. It seems so fascinating to grow.
Gardening has been a hobby of mine for a long time and these plants are just absolutely BEAUTIFUL :)
And the funny part is, I am not going to grow for myself, I am searching on medical to help a friend with cancer.
Lost one relative already :( That is when I first read about medical 5 years ago.)

I was chatting with the guys at Nirvana and they told me about bitcoin. and yes it sounds difficult. I have no COD options from any seedbank and no VISA either :D

I got into the "hobby" to provide clean smoke for my family, but then started experimenting on ways for me to use it as medicine for my own arthritis. I never smoked, either, so tried edibles, capsules, and butters.

Since I'm not that great of a baker, I've decided on making cannabudder capsules and just last night made up my first batch of cannibus-infused peanut butter. Now THAT is yummy! No MJ taste at all! and it is fast. PB can be used so many ways!

On a retirement income, one tends to DIY as much as possible. Even a tent can be constructed of wire shelving units and poly tarp for about $60 as opposed to $300 and up for a pre-constructed grow tent. A closet works well, too, but heat buildup could be a problem unless you leave the door open.

You can grow almost odorless strains like Bubblelicious and other bubble gum variations. No odor buckets needed! What little scent they have resembles candy, and not at all weedy. Another great stealth method.

We are legal here, but I still don't want certain neighbors knowing I grow. Too many young thieves in the area. And the law requires stealth from the eyes of passersby. So if you don't live out in the country, you have to grow indoors.

If you use your gardening common sense, you'll be able to grow a few indoor plants in a stealthy manner. Maybe put them in among your regular house plants.

Hi
This is also what I will be doing, growing basically for others.
I have it all "figured out in my head"
will be growing bagseeds for test (hubby's) and I am looking into "cancer strains" for a friend.
Idea is to create CBD oil.
I have fallen in love with the art of growing these beauties and I was reading about bubbleicious. Smell is a big concern, which is why I hesitate to start. No space indoors, in my case it will be done in the very small back yard in pots, soil and for the bag seeds I will try fertilizers from the kitchen ( coffee grounds, banana peels, bone meal ( how to grind the bones .. no grinder yet) lol
Home made "tent" a small set up 4-6 plants top.
Lights to be CFL's 40W.
Pests... vinegar water soap in a cup... spray with soap water and shower off..
so far it is all my head..trying to stop hesitating and get going...
The butter for cookies :D thought of making it for my hubby lol I quit smoking 3 weeks ago and cookies is a great way for my hubby to stop completely too. :D He uses tobacco in his joints :(

Do you have any idea if I can train the bubble gum strain? no heavy work, just bending branches/ tie them down?

Yes, you can. Because BBL grows so fast, you want to do that first pinch after the 4th node, but no higher, then as each side grows long enough to tie down, pinch those tops, too, so you get at least 4 strong COLAs. Once the plant is tied down and is about 18" - 24" wide, I top any tips that bolt and clone them.

The goal is to keep the canopy fairly level. The next important goal is to open up the inside of the plant to the light. BBL will surprise you at how fast and vigorous they are.

I've been over at Sweet Sue's forum at The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return discussing various concoctions for capsules and butters. I infused a 16 oz jar of non-homogenized crunchy peanut butter with 4.5 oz powdered OGK bud and 1/2 cup of coconut oil. I mashed all this together and baked it in the oven at 325 D F for 30 min in a ceramic dish. When it cooled enough, I poured it back into the PB jar and refrigerated it. I had a bit under 1/2 cup left over and used part of that for a snack.

I used the canna-PB with Jelly and dill pickles on whole wheat wasa bread or 21 grain bread. No MJ taste at all, and super easy. PB can be used in lots of ways.

:) Swedish bread that goes with ANYTHING :)

I have a few recipes about butter and cookies,,, need to hide them from the kids though..cookie-monster is nothing compared to them :cheesygrinsmiley:
I saw that topic before and have started reading ..but it is many pages :)

Peanut butter is not my personal favorite, but cookies are :)

Hey, Tead! I am surprised at how well the perlite/vermiculite mixture wicks moisture UP as well as down. And there are NO MITES!!!!!

I know the roots have hit the reservoirs, because I'm not watering them all that often. I got busy with non-grow tasks this last week, and totally expected them all to be wilted and dead. NOT! All except 2 were still moist 1" down, probably because they have more vermiculite. I only had to water the other two.

It's been 2-1/2 weeks since the BBL#4 clones were put in flower, but no sign of hairs yet. Frilly lady, also a BBL phenotype, has been in flower since 5/26 and her flowers are many, but still small. I don't see her maturing in 10 weeks, as she is already in 6 weeks. But the last BBL lady really improved during the last few weeks, so maybe Frilly Lady will, too. She IS a throwback to a Skunk#1 parent, so that may be what is holding her up.

The lighting is different, too. The last one was under CFLs from sprout to harvest. These 3 are under 2 mars 300 units and a dozen 23W cfls.

Yea... in my pots, there's an inch or two of dry level at the top, but under that it's quite wet.

And there are NO MITES!!!!!

Might be a bit early to make any scientific conclusions in that department... but let's hope!

I know the roots have hit the reservoirs, because I'm not watering them all that often.

I water on a schedule rather than need based watering. This is not soil.... it's hydroponics. One of the goals of watering/feeding is to replace the water with a fresh mix. One really might need to refresh the mix rather than wait for it to dissipate.
Of course, I've got to keep my mix in the buckets fresh because of my extreme heat. Growers in a temp controlled area don't need to worry as much about the issue.

Tead: What is the best way to decide when to water in hempy, then? Remember, I'm a soil-grower at heart, and I use the normal soil cues as to when to water. Weight of pot or sticking a finger deep into the soil.

I water on a 3 day schedule. I do 3 days because of my local heat issues. I need to flush it out and replace it with new before it has a chance to develop rot.
If your garden stays below 80f and you're using at least 3 gallon containers, I might start at a 5 day hitch and keep an eye and nose out for any rot issues.

Weight is the only way to judge water volume. Sticking your finger into the "soil" an inch or two in a hempy configuration should always indicate moisture.

Although I LIKE the soil less mix, I note that in Veg, the BBL in soil is much more vigorously growing than those in the soil less hempys.

HOWEVER the OGKs seem to be performing a bit better in the hempys than they did in their previous soil.

I DO notice, however, that I need to fertilize the hempys more often than the soil, since nutes are flushed out whenever I water. I'm seeing signs of N deficiency on a few BBL leaves, and the OGKs are dropping more leaves in veg than I like.

Last night, a family member noticed that the BBL clones I put under 12/12 on 6/22 did, indeed have new flowers! These old eyes of mine missed them, or else they emerged rather suddenly overnight!

Another tactic that has been very successful for me is placing lights not only along the tops, but all around and low in the plants. I made this change this year, and so far each female has developed buds all the way down to the bottom branches, even the small ones.

Because of this, There really isn't any cloning material, so I have to clone in Veg. I don't want to chance losing any harvest AND losing the clone in the process. My grow is very small, and every bud, every clone, counts.

Frilly Lady, as you can see from her pics earlier on, have developed colas, with buds so close all along the stem, that I think I may get a handful of those colas you see in our growers' better pics. With the normal phenotype, I get separate bud clusters, but nothing you can really call a cola. They are still potent, however.
