Ajagunle's NFT White Widow Auto X Sweet Afghani Delicious Under CFL - Closet Grow

Temps are becoming a challenge, peaked at 104f, outside temps are pretty silly the last week and I haven't got adequate ventilation or air movement, hot spots are occurring resulting in some brown and crunchy leaves, mostly removed, the damage is worse the furthest from fans and extraction, I need to beef up the intake and seal the grow space to make the extract more effective, this would also make a passive intake more realistic .Still some nice looking buds putting on some weight, flowering day 30 so some time left.

Canopy away from back left-hand corner looks quite promising,

Hey ajagunle :)

Have you thought of installing an intake fan that is a lower CFM than your out take ?

I have a grow environment that is only 1.5ft X 2.5ft X 4ft or ( 15 cubic feet ) and was having major heat problems.

I installed a 280 CFM inline fan for my outake and that still did not solve the problem, the air from the passive intake just wasn't doing its job, more like the air was just coming in the intake hole, being sucked up the sides of the box and straight out the inline fan :p ha ha

Temps were getting as high as 32c ( 90f ) and the plants didn't like it one bit ha ha

All I done was install a 35 CFM computer case fan as my intake so that the cooler air was actually being blown into the box and was able to circulate far more effectively, the airflow is also increased by the negative pressure created by the inline fan.

This caused my temps to drop as low as 26c ( 79f ) Problem solved :)

I was extremely surprised but that little change made all the difference, its like you need to get the right balance of airflow.

I hope this helped somewhat as your problem is similar to what I have experienced :)

Thanx Greenfingers, I have known for quite a while what I need to do, but it's always been a case of mañana, until now. Real benefit of keeping a journal and comments like yours. I am pretty disabled and it is very easy to convince myself things are getting beyond me, so appreciate the prodding/guilt trip.

:thanks:

My grow space is a bit of unused space, bit like a box missing one panel and I have managed with a Mylar backed black out curtain, but not giving enough of a seal for the extract to have any meaningful use other than odour control, so;

Constructed a Bulkhead or Hatch to accommodate a 6” desk fan as intake, with a light hood for discretion and a sealed housing for the extract ducting. The intake fan is centred to blow directly over the top of CO2 release airlock.Enough negative pressure to hold the Hatch in place.

Absolutely exhausted and going to get some self-medication going on, and check the max temp tomorrow.

Job’s a goodun.

On re-reading my reply to an earlier question on temps I can detect the slight tone of self-satisfaction and definite presumption of success. Well, here’s the fall;

The ‘hot-spot’ under the back left hand corner shows the canopy damage caused by temps peaking at 109f. The heat build-up over-night has caused my chosen construction material to disassemble. //[Image of Chunky Clementine crossing that bridge!].

After_the_fire.jpg

The negative pressure can’t have helped!

Local heat wave is thankfully over whilst I await new building materials to be delivered.

On a more positive note, the rest of the canopy is still thickening with promise.

Gone for a rhubarb pink for the CO2 production.

The heat damage has knocked my enthusiasm temporarily. I have re-hung the CF and pump, re-siting the jubilee clips and I have wrapped the top half of the CF with Leatherette, so all the suction is from the bottom half, level with base of the light shade, hopefully drawing off some more heat.

There is some healthy swelling undamaged bud but

Farewell to the tall girl at the back.

Still battling ph dropping to 5.2 over-night, bubbler in the res, pump filter cleaned every 24 and no algae build up, little, if any light leakage onto the NFT shelf. Any ideas? Anyone?

Day length is 10 hours 40 minutes and they are at day 35 of flower.
I think, with the aid of the flash, I can see a dusting of trich seeds.

Trichs26.jpg

Almost finished the airtight hatch to the garden, the active intake combined with repositioning the CF and not forgetting the drop in outside temps appears to have overcome the heat challenges. Procrastination really is an expensive bitch. The fire damaged buds still have some green showing, will remove as much crunchiness as possible before harvest or trimming will be an even bigger mare than usual.

Having read the Nutrient uptake charts in TG’s thread, posted by teSmp (thanks guys), I am setting ph to 6.1 in the hope that the roots spend as much time in the beneficial range as possible.

Back_right_hand_corner.jpg

I know that just saying it doesn’t make it true but…I can see trich beginnings;

Fairy_dust.jpg

The airtight hatch construction project is entering its third morning, best time for me, no one about, sunny and warm. A leatherette skirt all around the hatch and a length of elastic has provided a decent seal, covering half the CF away from the light, and the fitting of the 6" fan in the hatch have all contributed to a max temp of 86f. Garden is still very discrete. Thank you for the nudges GreenFingers.

This plant really is an amazing weed, determined to keep going to the bitter end, what I had written off as toast is showing signs of bright new growth, amazing.

They may be very small but forming beautifully, I think I will name this 2 inch of future pleasure Justine.

Very pleased with the extra lights, or maybe it is just knowing what I'm looking at, but trichs are developing really early, for me.

First of all... well rescued!

I think your journal shows very well how resilient these plants are, and it gives me confidence that if I cock it up royally (always a possibility! :) ) I might well still get something decent out of it.

Also...don't be so hard on yourself. We can only do what we can do. I also need to listen to my own advice as I am a champion at beating myself with the stick!

Keep going, you're doing great! :thumb:

Thanks for popping in and also for the encouragement. Funny you should say/type ‘...don't be so hard on yourself’, never realised I was, maybe it’s a ‘frame of mind’ kind of thing!

:thanks:

I agree GF, bit by bit it will have to be. The back left plant doesn’t really have any undamaged tops, the one on the right no damaged tops, so I will concentrate on the back right one, that has both. If that makes sense?

Main gardening activity atm is removing as much large damaged leaves as I can and then I will make a start on rubbing or crumbling off the smaller damaged bits.

The left side of my body can no longer be relied on to actively participate, the garden is on the floor and I can only manicure with one hand, getting at the back left hand corner is going to take the longest, but I am aware of the need to remove damaged stuff. Thanks for reminding me, and combined with sharing photos will ensure I get it done, eventually.

Had a good rummage under the screen, about half a dozen yellowing fan leaves fell from the stems, one or two were dry and crisp, but no low down shoots to cut for clones, guess that will be the next chapter. Ph dropped from 6.1 to 5.3 in 24hrs. Re-set to 6.2, no algae in the pump or filter

Into wk6 of flower so day length is now set to 10 hours, first time that I have used glr throughout a whole grow, certainly worked for cloning and veg stage, but too many other variables to decide on increasing night length, but the logic works!

Thanks for popping back in Fluffy, thinking forward not so much back!

Sounds like you've got it under control based on what you can do. Keep it up! Looking forward to seeing more pics too.

Still puzzling over the case of the dropping ph. Harvested rainwater drawn off today has 8.2ph and after adding nutes ph drops to 6.2. So, medicated thought is suggesting that my dropping ph may be connected to the girls transpiring water quicker than they are using nutes, mmm

Still crunching brown debris off the partially desiccated buds, surprisingly there is still life in their core and I swear they are still putting on a little weight.

The smell when I first remove the hatch is really pungent, getting a little stronger every day, always pleasing!

Looking good! Hope you figure out the ph thing soon. That would nerve wrack me to no end at this stage. ;)
