AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal - Ebb&Flow - Bubblelicious 2013

I envision a dome of CFL lighting from seedling to a stage were a screen is needed. Then switch over to an HPS. Maybe an umbrella design with inner-layered mylar and an excess over over 15+ CFLs. It could just then be lifted as needed.

And Wild, I've always wanted a Canadian strain with maple leaf pheno's :)
I will give others a chance to guess before giving the final answer.

MINI UPDATE

I had not planned to do any more training until the trellis came on, BUT I couldn't help myself:ganjamon: I went ahead and gave the Bubb her official 'Last LST Session' intul the trellis goes on top in 10 days. Here is a picture before:

This is her after training and a light defol of all inner leaf growth that was inevitably blocking light to smaller growth.

Here is a quick diagram I made of how growth is dispersed throughout the plant. As you can see, the red branches indicate the main growths from the main stalk of the stem. All of these red branches have been topped last week. The blue points represent the secondary growth stemming from the main branches, BUT not the main main stalk. The white stars indicate all potential tops I feel will make the screen as of now, making a count of over 45 tops.

When all 50 are fully legal, I propose this be our new flag. Great choice of colors and use of stars!

Parabolic reflectors are neat my old master grower loved them over all.
I have not seen any maple leaf pheno in over a decade :(

AG, are you thinking of the sentinels on the Matrix that have little arm like appendages with little parabolas on the ends?

africangrower, your plants are so happy. really good job, and an awesome sight :high-five:

Tremendous grow space AG, love the vid! Superb training!!:thumb:

Apologies for barging in but....

Had you considered taking cuttings from a flowering plant? Day 21 seems to work well, take low down stuff that will only be popcorn, by the time they revert to veg and root your grow space will be empty, a flowering clone will branch like you wouldn't believe!

Good luck bringing the girls home!

SWvoodoo just shared something worth knowing in the "Monster Cropping" thread.

I have rooted flowering clones in a bubbler along side straight cuttings and found very little difference in the time it took the clones to start rooting. It seems to me that the true difference is in the fact that the bud must then re-veg and create a lot of growth all at once which seems to stall it compared to other clones. I did not complete growing out the flowering clones but I would imagine that the extra lats would have made up for the extra veg time in the long run.
I have found another good way to achieve multiple tops with low stress on the new cutting is to Pre- top a branch on a host plant allow the topping to heal and start new growth then take the whole topped end as a cutting. Ive even cloned multi topped clones with four main stems to build from.

Mini Update
24/10/13

Hey all. Today is going to be short but sweet, as I have some nice bud porn to end with ;)

First off, today makes 1 week before I go into flower which should be on the 31st of this month. I have changed out the res, and have 3 parts Grow Big and 3 parts Big Bloom. I also decided to try out Fox Farm's line of solubles since my purchase came with samples of them. I went ahead and added 1/4 strength of the recommended dose of Open Sesame, which iis high in phosphorous. This is what the website claims: "...a high-phosphorus soluble fertilizer that’s designed to bring plants into bloom at your command. Just say the magic words!"

We will see how that goes. Depending on the number of calyxes that form this week, I will judge whether or not it really can induce flowering, at least at a chemical standpoint.

So presently my 20 gallon res stands at pH of 5.9 and a PPM of 550. I have been slowly building PPM from 400-600 gradually in the past few weeks, and I plan on raising it from 600-1000 PPMs gradually over the course of the next 8 weeks.

So jsut one more week left everyone, hopefully Bubblelicious is as big of a producer as advertised because only god knows how important it is for me to reach that double digits mark.

Now here is some bud porn for you all.

Strain:ICE; Afghan & Northern Lights genetics among others
Taste:Leafy, piney
Aroma:Very fruity, pungent smell when burping
Potency/Effect:I FREAKIN LOVE THIS STRAIN :yummy:; very long-lasting, and instantaneous high
Weight:The nugs in the first picture that are OUT of the jar are a collective 1/2 oz. Yes, very dense stuff here ;)

Congrats

Your mannequin is crying because you won't share your ice with her.

Damn, your mannequin reminds me of the movie mannequin with kim cattrall, which reminds me of the good ole days when she would show her tits on "sex and the city". That was the only reason I watched that show.

Good looking bubb and bud, buddy.

After all these years of watching that show, I could never figure out where I saw Kim catrell before.

>>>on the cfls, could u not just use 1 or 2 250w cfl?

Yes I could but I currently only have 23watts at my disposal. Plus a 250w would be overkill in the amount of light (and heat) I need.

I am currently in the process of a write-up I will post within the next few updates. Based on some info that I recently experimented on, more light could be the opposite of what is needed for growth manipulation.

More to come ;)

Interesting. I look forward to it.

it wont be over kill. and def no heat issues. i run seedings directly under them with no drama. they give off next to no heat. plus can be used for great veg results mate.

just to add mate. ive read so much on nutes, light, training and so many times they are proved wrong in real life. just my 2 cents bro.

Well not heat per say, no that would not be the issue at hand. More on actual light penetration than anything. Between recent and old PMs between myself and an experienced grower, I can say that some of my previous assumptions on how light penetration and defoliating light blocking leaves might actually affect growth versus what I currently believe: that more light penetration equals faster growth. This may prove not to be true in light of new experiments.

I think I see where you are going with that train of thought AG but in my opinion low light growth leads to a larger plant but also larger internodes and a weaker base structure. eg If a tip is blocked of light it will stretch to find it, removing that leaf blocking the light will stop that stretch and therefore keep that tip shorter, preventing an even canopy. Is that where you are sort of going with it?
