African Sun And Indoor Gardening: Pushing My Own Boundaries

Time for coffee and a shave
Today is a busy day
Top some plants
Harvest a Cali Orange Super Lemon Haze
Clean the greenhouse and transfer the chilli plants to the new greenhouse
Attempt some quadlining in the vegging cupboard
And later test some home brew and see if Wifey will bake a batch of Canna cookies
So first make coffee for the temporary extended family

Now that's a busy day indeed. Sounds lekker too

I was quite busy
The only thing that I didn't get to was cleaning the greenhouse
To much rain here
I did however get to do most of the other things on my list for today
To start with the vegging cupboard.
Before I did a half quadline on the last Cali Orange in the cupboard

After
20200415_163047.jpg
The bottom two nodes are not quite ready to bend down soI will wait for them to strengthen

I also had a look at the Northern Lights and White Widow topped plants and found one of each that I could top again
Before
20200415_105112.jpg
And after their second topping
Northern Lights
20200415_163057.jpg
And White Widow
20200415_163109.jpg
I need these plants to bush out more and then decide if I will apply quadlining to them

In between the rain I managed to harvest the Cali Orange Super Lemon Haze
Some pics from last night in the greenhouse

Only two of the four main cola's were left
Been pilfering
Smack on wrist for me

The greenhouse plants have some more space
The Durban Poison has developed powdery mildew so I may have to harvest early
20200415_172939.jpg
Not happy with this mildew stuff
Cola's have been growing nicely

The first of the Cali Orange plants is also looking good but has some powdery mildew as well
20200415_172931-1.jpg
And some buds from the rescued veg cupboard two plants
20200415_173001.jpg
If only they had so many foxtails

Two clones have been moved to the greenhouse
The first of a number of clones coming through
Both Cali Orange
20200415_173057.jpg
20200415_173042.jpg
One more Cali Orange moved from the veg cupboard
Just topped in veg, left for a while to get some growth, and moved out to flower
20200415_173027.jpg
I don't expect huge plants or harvest but I just don't have space in the vegging cupboard. A terrible dilemma
I'm hoping that after the last of the Cali Orange, which is being quadlined, goes into flower in the greenhouse, I'll have harvested most of the other plants and have space for the Northern Lights and White Widow plants.

Wow I have been catching up for ever
One last plant
Also a Cali Orange
I like the look of this girl
20200415_172809.jpg
Not many bud sites but I love the look of them and the colours on the plant

After cutting some wood for a client tomorrow and possible trip to the local supermarket I hope to move all the plants out and clean up
I can then appropriate the space made available by moving the chilli plants to the new greenhouse
Tomorrow's work

Quadlining
An attempt on a Cali Orange plant
This plant was topped and then the resulting two top branches were topped again above the third node
The bottom two branches developed slowly so up to this point I have left them but they are reaching a point where they too can be topped.
This is what this Cali Orange looked like after the second topping
20200415_105140.jpg
Then I pulled down the top two branches, attempting to bring them down at least parallel with the pot level
20200415_163042.jpg
The bottom two branches are, in my opinion, to frail to be bent .
I decided to leave them for a couple of days and today I noticed that they have almost grown enough to be stressed outwards and topped
20200417_203423.jpg
20200417_203435.jpg
One can see the difference in growth between pic2 and these pics in the bottom branches
I also noticed that the nodes on the top branches have turned upwards, reaching for the light

I think this will work
Will give a week or so before a bit of selective defoiling to allow light through to lower nodes affected by leaf shadows

I had to have an emergency harvest on the Durban Poison and a Cali Orange in the greenhouse
Powdery mildew has been attacking some plants and these two have been hit the most.
Some pics of why I needed to take some of the lower cola's off these plants

The Cali Orange
20200417_152145.jpg
And a bud of the Durban Poison
20200417_152122.jpg
Not happy
:(
They both looked like this afterwards
2020-04-17 22.19.41.jpg
After a good wash and trim the lower cola's are now drying
2020-04-17 22.31.35.jpg

So a forced partial harvest
Pity
The buds were filling out nicely until this mildew hit
I am hoping to get at least another week or more out of the top colas
:snowboating:

Did some more emergency harvesting on the Durban Poison and Cali Orange due to the powdery mildew
Also tried a new idea (for me ) on the plant I am attempting to quadline.
Will try to remember to post pictures tomorrow

An update on the Cali Orange quadline plant
The two lower branches have been topped and I have tried something with the wire used here to close plastic bags used for freezing goods
I twisted the wire around the stem and onto the branch
Then bent the twisted wire to keep the branches bent outwards

I saw something similar on @Smeegol s page
Thanks Smeegs for the idea

Evening boetie your gardens looking lekker hey, ya wpm sucks spent last week trimming a girl who was affected rather ugly with it so she's down and trimmed and washed cause I hurt my back on Sunday so went to the doc and he gave 2 shots for pain so I've been sleeping most of the day and I'm on bed rest for the rest of the week...

The Cali cross you talking about hey she's the wpm girl I took down nice dense buds on her started off with a cat piss smell but after drying I can smell the orange zest citrus smell to her....
I ordered some WW fems as part of my 2nd place in POTM but they'll be delivered to my boet in the uk as they can't guarantee the parcels arrival so he'll hang onto them for me in the meantime...

I'm busy with a plant that I topped/lollipopped down to 4 sets of branches then I topped those branches and I put a hula hoop net on top of her, but I see the lowest set of branches is going to make it to the net in time like the other branches so I'm going to clone them and will have the start of a mainline plant x2 going....

So I've been thinking how to reveg the Alaskan purple that's in the garden as she's ready to come down but I saw some very young immature growth that's looks very viable for monster clone cause this is the best strain 2nd season now so I'm def going to try and keep her so I reckon will do that tomorrow before I commence the bedrest duties......

See the Pres is addressing us again tonight...

I walked out my door this morning and almost stood on this little seedling that was rising out of the grass.
I had to rescue the blighter
Should be a tough plant
I have no idea what genetics are involved but I think it came from the Durban Poison cross seeds that were sorted on the front lawn

That's really crap about your back again man
It's difficult to rest when we know that there are things that need to get done
I can't revegg plants at the moment as my indoor setup has no space.
As much as I would like to
That Cali Orange cross I have is looking really nice
Will post some pics tomorrow hopefully

Day 25 of our lockdown I think
Slight lifting of some restrictions are on the cards.
Most people are still not taking the necessary precautions.
Masks and sanitising sprays etc. Possibly 50% of our population may be taking some form of protection.
Transport between provinces or states is not allowed
Basically for us it means that my In laws are stuck with us until this transport restriction is lifted.
No form of income in the house except for social grants for pensioners, this being the in laws.
I have tiny bits of work I can do and bartering for goods and foodstuffs.
And yet we are still fortunate.
We are not starving
Some have started to loot stores etc.
These are extraordinary times we live in.
TV series are made about circumstances like these.
In the midst of trying to remain positive for myself and the extended family I find solace in the plants we love and enjoy so much.
Today in the greenhouse I took these pictures
I hope you enjoy them as much as I did
It's a Cali Orange festival

One side of the greenhouse is just the Cali girls in a row.
The one plant I have been watching carefully is a Cali Orange cross
I suspect it was a blueberry Kush that was the daddy.

I got a couple of nice closeups which I will post next time

Some are losing it but I remain relatively sane I think
Thanks to the therapeutic effect of growing this awesome plant in all its variety
