Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - Perpetual

AHK is going into the bloom room for testing to incontrovertably determine sex. I also need to see if she will bloom properly or if she has just gone loony on me. The autoflowering repeats at every new node, but even the

older tufts aren't really filling out into buds. Maybe it will when it goes into bloom. We shall see. I'm going to guess 8 weeks (says 7-9) and adjust when she gets close.

All of medium veg graduated to the large veg recipe and all of small veg graduated to a medium veg recipe, though I still call them small veg.

LOL hopefully not to looney... one can only hope that she will turn around for you. Do you wait to put them into flower based on height or age? also, what is the average final height of your ladies apon chop? have a good one!
:peace:

Abb I don't think ur AHK is auto flowering. Although it very well could be, it would be more developed I would think if it was a true autoflowering strain.

Autoflowers show sex after like 20ish days and finish in 8-10 weeks.

I think you are just freaking a little cus you have never grown from seed and never have seen pre-flowers :-)

Perfectly normal for a plant to sex in veg when its mature and show its preflowers (male or female).

A calyx or two will develop at each node and continue to show at each new node until you flip to 12/12 and then it will fully go into flowering.

Let's see some pics of AHK! You top SLH?

I put in whatever I have. I try to time them so they are about 2 months in veg and 2'-3' tall, but if a slot opens up, usually I go with whatever is most ready. It's not an exact science.

At chop they are usually 3'-4' tall, but it varies depending on the strain and on how big they are when they go in.

I don't know, maybe these are preflowers. Maybe this strain is just different than what I am used to seeing. I'll try to get pics soon, but I'm getting such a late start tonight I doubt I'll find time.

It's official. I removed GDP.2N, GDP.2P, GDP.3A, and GDP.3B from the garden. No more Grandaddy Purps. I actually had to toss them - I couldn't give them away. Everyone I asked was tossing theirs and certainly didn't want mine.

I also made a decision on the 'Northern Lights' (NL) and the 'Grape Kool-Aid' (GKA). The NL will go back. My friend is going to grow it and I'll get a cut later if it's any good. The GKA I have been convinced to keep. I am told it is better than the 'Lavender Indica' I so love, so I have to try it.

I have read on here that you really love the lavender, but I have never even heard of a grape kool aid before. Can you get seeds or is that one of those clone only strains?
I hope for you that is blows you away!

Both the Lav and the GKA came to me as un-authenticated clones. They could be practically anything. It doesn't matter much if the bud's great, like the Lav.

Here's a shot into bloom. It's super-crowded in there. On the left is the massive Blue Dream (BD). I need to tie her out. She's huge.

The Afghani Hindu Kush (AHK) tester is still freakin' out. I diligently check here twice a day, just in case:

20110827Aber-07.jpg

The Trinity (TRN) has fat stubby stems and cute little buds forming:

20110827Aber-08.jpg

20110827Aber-09.jpg

The Blue Dream (BD) is starting to have little bud tufts at every node. She still has a long ways to go, but she'll be photogenic all the way along now:

20110827Aber-10.jpg

20110827Aber-11.jpg

20110827Aber-12.jpg

Here are the Super Lemon Haze (SLH) and Tangerine Dream (TDR). They are so healthy. They are both still doing opposed branching instead of alternating, so they are not yet sexually mature. They have time. They don't go into bloom for about 7 weeks:

20110827Aber-13.jpg

I didn't bother with shots of the rest of veg because it's boring. I did finish processing the recently-harvested Grandaddy Purps (GDP) bud. Two plants gave me a hair over 11 ounces. That's fine but I'm not growing it anymore, so this is the last hurrah for smoking GDP (if that's what it really is). In any case, here's a half-pound of that in a gallon jar:

20110827Aber-14.jpg

Oops! It fell over! ;)

20110827Aber-15.jpg

20110827Aber-16.jpg

Finally, throwing pot away. Here are the last of my GDP plants. No one else wants them either, so in the can they go. They mock me with their continued green-ness. On top of that I had to throw some old Lavender away. It went bad. It happens.

20110827Aber-17.jpg

I use Glad OdorShield kitchen bags in a blue 5-gallon bucket. When the 'sensitive' garbage needs to go out, I tie it off with minimal air trapped inside. I then add that bag to a contractor trash bag full of used cat litter. It's the only thing cats are good for. If the bag is punctured, it gushes used litter. Nobody's gonna look deeper. With two bags to penetrate, I feel safe enough. I toss all my 'sensitive' trash either this way through the regular garbage service, or by borrowing a truck and taking it (with other trash) to the refuse site myself.

:peace:

how many times do transplant before you get to large pot size?
Have a good one
:peace:

Usually about 4 times. When the cuttings are rooted in the plugs they go into 3.5" pots. When they drain fast and start to show signs of wilting I move them to a 5" pot (sometimes I skip this). Then they get moved to a 1.5 gallon pot, and finally to a 9 gallon pot. I have 25 gallon pots, but I was never able to get the root structure large enough to make that worth the extra soil and work. I'm working on developing more root mass, and when I start seeing that I'll consider going back to the 25s, but for now the 9s are plenty big. I try to get them into the 9 gallon pots about a week before going into bloom.

Then again, I garden while stoned, so unplanned things 'happen' sometimes. ;)

:peace:

Woot!

I got allowance, so I went and bought 2 x Sunsystem Blockbuster 8" hoods, 2 x Lumatek LDB107 ballasts, 2 x GE Lucalox PSL bulbs, and 2 x 10' lamp cord extensions.

The hoods are great - hinged glass, 8" ducting, and the reflector is on all 4 sides instead of 2, so they throw a more square light-print.

The ballasts are the 240V only, which saved me some money. I have no need for a 120V ballast anyway. They will do HPS or MH, and can be switched between wattages: 600W, 750W, 1000W, and "Super Lumens" (overdrive?). I had resisted digital ballasts because they have had so many RF interference problems, but one grower I know is doing fine with 18 of the new ones so I decided to jump in.

The bulbs are my standard 600W HPS. That brings me to 6 x 600W. Or at least it will when all this is put up in the new bloom. Later I might switch to 1000s, but right now 600s are enough.

The extension cords allow my hoods to be a total of 25' from the ballasts - this is good becuse they will be at least 12 feet apart, and I need to add slack to allow the lights to be lowered, plus a little slack beyond that is a great thing. I had less distance to cover with the 15' cords in my existing bloom, so this ought to be just about right.

:bong:

Tomorrow I'm going to pick up a 25,000 Btu AC for the new bloom. Eventually there will be two in there for redundancy, but I don't have the money for two right now at $550 each. Of course I could have bought just one light/ballast/hood set and had the money for a second AC - those sets were about $550 each as well. But I'd rather have the light right now.

:peace:

that is just great! I can't wait to see them in action :)
That sounds like a lot of work, but I always enjoy that kind!
I wish I had the space for that many lights. I have 2 600w mh/hps systems and a 16 bulb cfl bank for extra. I am going to buy new hoods and a 6" exhaust (current is 4") system to retro my setup very soon.

I'm following your grow. Thanks - I'm excited to move up to 3600W and a bigger room. It's just taking forever to finish. Family, work, and fatigue make demands I cannot ignore. I'll get there.

Congrats on the new goodies Aberration!!! :high-five:

Yeah, they're sweet. :high-five: Thanks for dropping in. :welcome:
