Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - Perpetual

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Amazing drawings brother, I am very envious of your space and your budget, but I know how much good you do with what you grow, so :bravo:.

Still so damn :nicethread:

Thank you to both of you. I'm detail oriented to the point that it bothers other people, so doing things this way seems natural to me.

As for my budget, this expansion is going to push the limits in the short term. I make good money but I'm not rich. I went to the home improvement store at lunch, and just to frame, insulate and drywall the new room (drywall on one side only atm) and adding the two 'structural' doors is going to ring me to the tune of about $1265! Holy rusted metal, Batman!

It'll take a couple months to come up with that. I have about $800 to work with right now, so I shoud have enough to get the framing and drywall up ASAP.

Later I have to insulate and drywall the rest of the garage and buy probably $2K in new equipment etc.

I think it will be time to move to a new perpetual journal thread soon. I want to open the new journal with the expansion in pictures and progress updates. But now that the two other projects that have dominated my life for 4 years are effectively done, it is time. My wife is even asking how we are going to get started this weekend. I love her. We will be emptying the garage (or as close as we can) this weekend.

WOOT! :yahoo:

:peace:

PS: That was kinda rambly (and I'm not even high). Sorry. ;)

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

OK.

I'll try to take more this weekend too.

First, a couple of pics of MT4 and MT5 (Matanuskan Th.) from the 1st of July. They went into bloom on the 6th:

20100701Aber-01-mt4.jpg

20100701Aber-02-mt5.jpg

And on the 3rd I jarred up L2. I'm proud of that one. She did really good for a Lav. Nice smoke too. The top left jar and the whole bottom row are 1 oz to the jar. The top center jar is the headies and is well over an oz. The top right is what remained:

20100703Aber-01-L2.jpg

I just love my Lavender.

20100703Aber-05-L2.jpg

20100703Aber-06-L2.jpg

The rest of these are from today. First, a sweep of veg. I need to re-pot some of them and I need to clone the big ones and give them away to someone with an open slot now:

20100716Aber-01-veg.jpg

Here are some shots of bloom. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th pictures are dominated by G13xGB.1EE. She's huge:

Here are some sample bud shots. First Blue Dream:

The Matanuskan Th. girls have a lot of these:

And the G13 x Godbud girls are bustin out all over like this:

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Since taking those pics I have racked and tied both BDs, as they were just too heavy with that beautiful bud. I was sticky all the way up to my elbows.

I have also smoked copious amounts of that Lavender, so I'm off to bed.

:peace:

I would smoke copious amounts of that too...now those are some pics!!!!

I just really enjoy your girls brother...such great pot all the time. :cheertwo:
:peace: and I hope you and the missus have a lot of fun together with the build!

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Thanks, man. Really.

I know I don't post there much but I have been subscribed to your journal and reading it all along. You do great there.

In fact, after just posting in there, I'm thinking I should try my normal rack, but with three equally spaced uprights instead of four. That's harder to eyeball 120 degrees accurately, but I could mark the pots.

Hmmm. I just realized I'm ripped. :bong:

:peace:

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I just keep looking at how beautiful that lavender is...so frosty and the color is gorgeous...hummm does it taste good too? I know it must kick like a mule with trics like that.

:bravo: again...and Cheers..RoorRip

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

It tastes wonderful. Tastes like perfume smells. Potent and a great smoke, but low yielding and difficult sometimes. Plus I got it as a cutting, like 49th-hand or something, and near as I can tell, it doesn't look like Lavender grown by anyone else. So I don't really know WTF it is. Of course, this applies to all my strains. But at least with the Matty and the Blue Dream it looks like they are the real thing. I neither know nor care what the G13xGB's true lineage is. It's fine fine weed that grows quite well in my space. That makes it a keeper.

OK, I started construction on the expansion yesterday. I'm going to talk pseudo-construction here. I am no contractor. I often don't really know what the proper terms are but I try. I'm a programmer for fark's sake. Anyway, I'll just blast ahead. If I use a wrong term or you can't figure out what I mean, say so. ;)

We are sectioning off an area of the garage that is about 13' 5" x 11' 6" (inside dimensions). If you look back at the diagram I made, those measurements had to be adapted to conditions in the field, so to speak. So I lost 7" length and then gained 6" width. At 14' x 11' it was going to be 154 sq.ft. Now it will be 154.3 sq.ft. Close enough for me.
:smokin2:

It is in the back corner of the garage. The back wall is bare 2x4s and no insulation. So are the trusses (rafters plus). The side wall where we are building is the 6" staggered 2x4 wall I describe at the very beginning of this grow I think. It has insulation and drywall on both sides, but this side has no drywall seams or screws covered, let alone painted. This is good because I'll be able to safely remove a few to move an outlet and add the new door and still be able to put them back.

I'll be drilling 1/2" holes 2-1/2" into the concrete floor. Then I can drop in anchors (redheads) and use them to bolt down the base plates. Then I'll drop a plumb-bob from the rafters and mark where the top plate needs to go at each rafter. Then I'll nail up the top plates. That way they will be directly over the bottom plates. Then I can custom fit about 40 2x4s staggered, end nailed at the top and toenailed at the bottom. 4 stringers, 4 king studs, two headers and a few cripple studs and I have two of my new walls framed up.

The back wall needs the base plate built out to 5-1/2" wide so I can toenail in a second set of 2x4s. That will give me a 6" wall with staggered 2x4 studs like the rest. For those unfamiliar, the staggered studs means no stud touches both walls. I can insulate it with R-19 and add 1/2" soundboard and not only will it be thermally efficient, but sound will carry through it poorly. Perfect.

Then I'll put up plastic around the outside of the room and insulate it with the kraft paper on the inside. Finally I can slap up the drywall on the inside, seam it, put in the door, caulk and paint.

At that point the structure will be complete and I'll be able to start building it into a bloom room with ducting and equipment, etc. The rest of the work can follow, but it will take more money than what I have right now. I should be better in a month or so in that department. My goal is to have it framed and the drywall nailed up before mid-August. I have a long way to go working random evenings and weekends. We shall see.

So today I bolted a 2x6 to the garage floor with three 1/2" studs I sunk into the concrete. It's a start. I'll take pics. There's not much to see at the moment and the garage isn't very empty yet. It'll be fun, though, eh? :bong:

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Here are the pics I took last night. :cheertwo:

Statistics are for when the pics were taken last night.

First, a shot into bloom. Everyone in there is pretty god sized right now, especially the G13xGBs, so the room is a jungle:

20100721Aber-01-bloom.jpg

Here is BD.2A (Blue Dream, 51/70 days) at 39" tall:

20100721Aber-02-bd_2a.jpg

She has a crown of colas:

20100721Aber-03-bd_2a.jpg

And there are even some really nice buds growing down in the center:

20100721Aber-04-bd_2a.jpg

Of course, being Blue Dream, her buds are gorgeous:

20100721Aber-05-bd_2a.jpg

20100721Aber-06-bd_2a.jpg

20100721Aber-07-bd_2a.jpg

20100721Aber-08-bd_2a.jpg

20100721Aber-09-bd_2a.jpg

Here is BD.2B (Blue Dream, 51/70 days). She is taller at 43":

20100721Aber-10-bd_2b.jpg

Of course, she has fantastic buds as well:

20100721Aber-11-bd_2b.jpg

20100721Aber-12-bd_2b.jpg

20100721Aber-13-bd_2b.jpg

Next, at 50" tall, is G13xGB.1EE (G13 x GodBud, 28/55 days):

20100721Aber-14-g13xgb_1ee.jpg

She was pretty big when I put her in, and she has widened quite a bit:

20100721Aber-15-g13xgb_1ee.jpg

In this picture, that is her rack on the right. It looks like another plant is there in the center of the view, but while that is BD.2Bs pot you see in the bottom-back, you can't even see BD.2B in this pic. Almost all of that foliage is a section of G13xGB.1EE that has grown outward. I tied it in a bit after I took the pics, but the growth is phenomenal:

20100721Aber-16-g13xgb_1ee.jpg

Her buds are forming up nicely, with many of the pistils darkening already despite having almost a month to go:

20100721Aber-17-g13xgb_1ee.jpg

20100721Aber-18-g13xgb_1ee.jpg

20100721Aber-19-g13xgb_1ee.jpg

20100721Aber-20-g13xgb_1ee.jpg

Here is a shot that compares a BD.2B bud on the left with a G13xGB.1EE bud on the right:

20100721Aber-21-g13xgb_1ee.jpg

G13xGB.2D (G13 x GodBud, 28/55 days) is less wide and more tall at 51" (by 1 inch, but she started shorter too), and is maturing nicely:

20100721Aber-22-g13xgb_2d.jpg

20100721Aber-23-g13xgb_2d.jpg

20100721Aber-24-g13xgb_2d.jpg

I took shots of MT4 and MT5 (both Matanuskan Th., 15/68 days), but since they are both only 2 weeks in, there isn't much to see yet. Here is MT4:

20100721Aber-25-mt4.jpg

Here is MT5, showing how it is up on a bucket to get closer to the lights. MT4 is set up the same:

20100721Aber-26-mt5.jpg

Here are a couple close-ups of MT5. They are representative of both plants:

20100721Aber-27-mt5.jpg

20100721Aber-28-mt5.jpg

Here is a shot that shows all the new growth on the numerous tops of MT5. Again, MT4 is similar:

20100721Aber-29-mt5.jpg

To wrap up, here are a couple more general bloom shots. First, an attempt at a 3/4 overhead view. You can see how full the room is. That has made getting the full-plant pics quite hard as there is no where to put them where they stand alone and no where to back up to when trying to get the whole plant in the frame. I can't wait to move all this to the new (bigger) bloom room:

20100721Aber-30-bloom.jpg

Finally, I risked my camera's sensor to get a shot of the lights. I'm not sure why. I think I like the contrast between the orange of the HPS and the blue of the MH:

Zooms available on request.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

First, a shot into bloom. Everyone in there is pretty god sized right now, especially the G13xGBs, so the room is a jungle:

20100721Aber-01-bloom.jpg

I just re-read that and realized I accidentally wrote "god sized" when I meant "good sized". But I guess for the room, "god sized" is pretty accurate. It's 10' x 8'6" by recent measure and it's full. Moreover, I didn't squat for that pic. I'm 5'8" (not tall but not really short either) and that is an eye level shot.

I gave heights 2 nights ago. You have to remember there is about a 12" of soil and about 5" of saucer/dolly/casters before you get to the floor. So measuring from the floor instead of from the top of the soilless, everyone but the MTs are actually 17" taller than listed. And the MTs are 29" taller than listed. That means the the G13xGBs are both taller than 5'7" from the floor and everyones tops are at about head height.
:bong:
I love growing. ;)

Also, I will not be able to harvest the two BDs as scheduled due to external exigencies. Therefore, I am moving them up 5 days. They are ready at 60-70 days, so reducing to 65 shouldn't be an issue. They just get shorted on the H-17 set, with only tonight being at that nute stage instead of 3-4 feedings there. In two days when I feed again, they will begin flush. I have adjusted their maturity numbers (the 65 in '53/65 days') to match in the feed report I will post later tonight (3-4 hours from now probably).

I love that - "external exigencies". :) I hope no one is put off by my tendency to gravitate toward bigger words. I have a pressing need to be precise in what I say. OCD, anal-retentive, whatever you want to call it. I like to know that my reader understands what I truly mean as much as possible. Anyway it's a bit of an obsession. So sometimes I need a word that isn't in my vocabulary. This has made me into a person who gets excited about learning new words. At 43. :snicker:

So to get the opportunity to actually use the phrase "external exigencies" is priceless.

I thank you all.

I think I need another doobie.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Your girls are looking amazing brother...seems like your yield is going back up again (and was already great)...you veg a bit longer again?

And after seeing your setup more thoroughly I understand why bro...you run a very clean grow with a great setup. :bravo:.

Peace my friend, relax and smoke a fat one in the sure knowledge of a job well done.

Thank you MH. I think I'm seeing what needs to be done. I'm going to upgrade my bloom pots to 25 gallon pots with 15 gallons of soilless mix in each to start (they are 9 gallon now with 7-7.5 gallon soilless mix in them). And I'm adding more light. Right now I have 4 x 600W for 6 plants. I'm adding another HPS to make 3K, and when I get the tanning booth rewired and reassembled over the plants I'll go to 1 x 600 HPS per plant plus 60 minutes of UV over 3 separate 20 minute sessions. I think they will be better that way so I expect the yield to at least stabilize higher if not just noticeably rise. I'm hoping for the latter. I want 1 lb from a plant.

I try to keep it clean and controlled. That produces consistent results. It's hard in so little space tho. That's why I'm so hot for this expansion. 12x12! It'll feel palatial. For a while. ;)

And actually, as I'm on my third doobie in 4 hours, I think I'm good. For a while. ;)

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I'm on a toke break from working on the expansion. I finished the base plate of the long wall. It's bolted down to the concrete and the spots for the doors are removed. Next I'll go up in the rafters and use a plumb bob to mark the rafters directly ove r the base plate so that I will know where to put the top plate.

Yesterday I took the old 5K btu AC out of the veg room and put in a 10K. The ducting is still pure looney tunes, but it is keeping the temps in the 70s instead of the high 80s. It's a hot day here today, too. Seems to be doing the job. Pics later.

I also took 6 G13xGB cuttings and put them in the clone dome. I plan to use my smoke breaks to work on that and, if I get time, some transplanting.
