A thread for the users of Mars-Hydro lamps

Hallo, i have a little tent 2'x2'x4' and i still don´t know which light to get. Either the 48x5 Reflector or the Mars Pro II epistar 80 which seems to be the better light but, according to the website, covers only 1.5'x1.5' ? Could you help me here? And please excuse my english.

36 days in bloom.

Go for the pro series. It should be big enough

Hi bully, if budget is not your concern, Mars Pro II 80 will better, it is more powerful than reflector 48

Hi there. I would like to get some feedback about the Mars II Pro units, because I have a little problem and perhaps someone else has it too, hopefully with a solution.
I am using two Reflectors '96 since years, without any problems. After my Mars 400W had a huge problem (long after the warranty), I decided to buy two Mars II Pro 80 LED units. The contact with Mars-Hydro went very well, and soon I had these two new units. In principle they worked well until I found out the following problem:
As like every one here I am using the lights with a timer - switching on/off by hand is not a solution and these lights are designed to work with a timer. But when the timer stops the power supply to the units (the manual switches are still on "on"), one Mars II Pro unit still glows a bit - enough to lighten the area below a bit. Not much, but visible and it is not so fine for the darlings below. I can clearly see that the buds below this unit are much more fluffier that on other darlings. The second Mars II Pro unit also glow a bit (timer is off, switches are on), but it is so low that is mostly not visible.
Does anyone else had this observation, that with switches on but timer off that the LED are still glowing a bit?
I already contacted the Mars support for help, but I also would like to ask the community about their experiences.

Your timer is broken - replace timer. This happened to me as well one grow and gave me big problems. Try to get a high quality timer next time. They last a little longer

It just seems that some cheap timers have a tendency to let just a little bit of electricity through on off times. That little leak is enough to power the pro II series, not the fans and not 100% - Perhaps 0.5% - I don't know - But I know it is enough to keep the plants from flowering. In my room this made the plants stretch so much I almost ran out of headroom. Luckily I noticed it by accident one night I needed something from the grow-room

I bought one of those digital wifi timers you can program with your mobile phone. Works very well

DeVille, thanks for your comment.

The thing that worried me is following:
I have one timer connected to one power "distributor" connected with three power cords to one Reflector and the two new Mars II Pro models. When the timer switches the power off, the Reflector model goes completely dark, one Mars II nearly complete dark and the other Mars II shines a bit.
I also suspected the timer, a digital one for terrariums, which worked usually veyr well. So i tested out two other mechanical timers and another digital one - always with the same result. After searching I found a 5th timer (digital one, with batteries), and when this one switches the power off, every lamp goes dark completely. Uff...
So it seems, after long testing, one of five timers work correctly. It seems that the new Mars II Pro models are a bit more sensitive than my oly Reflector models.

They have upgraded power supplies I think compared to the reflector and Mars II, I too have noticed this sensitivity. I have found a good digital that works and also one analogue, but the analogue is only supposed to handle 600 watts, so a little bit sceptic to that one

Anyone know realistically how close I can get the Mars 300w to my plant? I didn't experience burn or bleaching at 8" on my last grow, would be interested in hearing other peoples experience.

It varies from strain to strain and from phenotype to phenotype, how light sensitive the plants are. I have 3 different pheno's of White Widow. One of them will get light bleached if I don't keep the lamp at least 40 cm from the top. Other strains can grow as close as 8-10 cm without problems.

Trying is the only way to find out

Alright well I'm starting the flip at 12" and will adjust lights as needed to keep 12" until the latter half of stretch. What are the earliest signs to look for regarding light burn?

Here's a light bleached bud

Look for the white. If the top of the buds start turning white, you need to raise your light(s)

What should i be looking for??? The purple or the whites nobs ?? I only ask cause i have height restrictions, so my light gets very close after the stretch.

Stop by my journal .

During flowering stage, you can keep lights 12'--18' from plants, veg stage:18'--24', seedling stage:18'--24'. If your lights is too close to plants, it will burn leaves

Thanks deville, ill make a mental note .
