5 Unknown Strains - 2012 Grow

I have to admit I have never listened to this album fully until now. Damn good. I was a child of the eighties and a huge metal head. One day a friend and I enjoyed ...a few small pieces square paper. he put the Movie " The Wall " on. Needless to say I have never been the same since! I love Floyd!!!!

Nice! I do like some modern stuff. Love 7 and 8 strings!! In the early eighties we had to ditch our high e string and use 54's for a low B. Like Pantera meets Sabbath!!! Now I have several 7 strings through An Orange 150 head and split cab.

The only part of this that I got was "Pantera meets Sabbath". The rest might as well be Greek to me.

Sorry! I wont bore the thread too much. Basically the sound you hear on heavy low beefy music are from 7 or 8 string guitars. Hence the low B string. The low end tones and sound will make a weak bowled man shit himself. Back in the day we would use 54 gauge low B strings on a 6 string guitar. The result was the loss in a high e string ( new nut and intonation reset all the time ). This sound can be obtained through effects and the such but I'm a live man myself. I can clean shit up with digital effects but prefer to be on a tiny stage in a shit hole club blowing out my ears as stoner rock fans nod in tune ( think Clutch ). The Orange head is a old school British amp and cab ( just my choice for heaviness ). They have had a major mainstream surge the past 20 years. very expensive and older ones are worth thousands. So anyway that's how many players did there thing before 7 strings came down in price. They gained popularity with Steve Via. Then a few hardcore bands started using them in the DC area. All of the sudden Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit comes out in the 90's and then 7 strings are all the rage (so sad). Take away the seven string and him and the Bizkit is limp. The sounds are awesome Beefy heavy ass sounds. Stuff has settled down and the sounds are smooth as silk with a led weight in em!
Think lamb of GOD or heavier.

OK, I got most of that, low end guitar string gauges and old (tubes?) amps, until the lamb of god bit, at least. :)

Thanks for the explanation. It wasn't boring.

I do remember now! I believe we have spoke about music before. You had some cool posts with vid's. Some were taken down i think.

needs more cow bell:)

This should help! and yes All Tube!!!! Gotta hand it to the British. They make the best amps in the world.

So, on a 7 or 8 string guitar, they've added a lower, or two lower strings? Do you still need a bass guitar anymore?
