Why do they call it Alternative Medicine when it is the ORIGINAL medicine that has been in use for thousands of years? Pharmaceuticals were only discovered a hundred years ago.
The war on drugs is another war that appears to have been lost. The experiment with prohibition of marijuana doesn't seem to have been working. Colorado might have it more right than the rest of us. - Former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer
Initiative 502 in Washington sought to close the gender gap at the polls by having women appeal to women in campaign ads. Neill Franklin, executive director of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, says women are the secret weapon in this business. Now that women are really starting to become involved in marijuana reform, you see people listening.
The world's only known official pharmaceutical cannabis product has been gaining momentum as it continues to get approval from many of the world's leading health bodies and isn't far off from becoming an official pharmaceutical medicine in the USA. Sativex is an oral spray made by cooking up a batch of freshly harvested cannabis with a few other ingredients at GW Pharmaceutical's UK based grow facility.
Marijuana or Cannabis Sativa, has long been known to contain antibacterial cannabinoids, whose potential to address antibiotic resistance has not yet been investigated. All five major cannabinoids, cannabidiol (1b), cannabichromene (2), cannabigerol (3b), Delta (9) tetrahydrocannabinol (4b), and cannabinol (5)) showed potent activity against a variety of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, strains of current clinical relevance. - NCBI.
Hemp makes body care products including lotions, salves, and serums. Some are made in Washington state with hemp that is grown in Canada. With recreational marijuana use now legal in Washington, state legislators are discussing whether the state should also launch an industrial hemp industry.
Hemp fiber paper resists decomposition, and does not yellow with age when an acid free process is used. Hemp paper more than 1,500 years old has been found. Hemp paper can also be recycled more times than wood based paper.

Making women feel more comfortable about marijuana is key to ending prohibition, according to Wendy Chapkis, a University of Southern Maine sociology professor. Women vote more than men, and the gap is growing among younger voters. "While smoking may culturally be a guy thing, voting is increasingly a girl thing, " Chapkis wrote in an academic article titled "The Trouble with Mary Jane's Gender." The more that women influence pot culture, the more they make other women at ease with it. That was crucial, according to Chapkis, to last year's voter approved initiatives legalizing weed in Colorado and Washington.
Hemp fiberboard produced by Washington State University was found to be twice as strong as wood based fiberboard. No additional resins are required due to naturally occurring lignins.
Hemp seed is nutritious and contains more essential fatty acids than any other source, is second only to soybeans in complete protein, but is more digestible by humans, is high in B vitamins, and is a good source of dietary fiber. Hemp seed is not psychoactive and cannot be used as a drug.
Eco friendly hemp can replace most toxic petrochemical products. Research is being done to use hemp in manufacturing biodegradable plastic products, plant based cellophane, recycled plastic mixed with hemp for injection molded products, and resins made from the oil, to name a very few examples. Over two million cars on the road today have hemp composite parts for door panels, dashboards, luggage racks, etc.
Recreational marijuana became legal under Amendment 64 to the Colorado state constitution, which passed by a 10 point margin last November and allowed marijuana shops to open their doors to the public. Many shops are still waiting on licenses, but hundreds opened on time. It's completely unprecedented.
The way things are heading, the marijuana industry needs women more than ever to accomplish legislative goals, both because women are some of its best inside advocates, and because legislation needs women's vote. Or as Chapkis puts it, "Smoking may culturally be a guy thing, but voting is increasingly a girl thing." Put that in your pipe and smoke it. - Elle Magazine
Future budtenders' experiences at the MMED, Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division, involves being fingerprinted, photographed, filling out a bunch of paperwork and paying a $75 fee. To get the green light for a license, potential budtenders need to pass a background check. Even some have witnessed several people get arrested in the waiting room when active warrants for them show up in the system. - PolicyMic
Thanks to legalization, as of January 1, you can buy weed from state regulated storefronts in Colorado. The real women of the weed industry are finally rising to prominence. They are business executives running large dispensary operations, influencing top levels of government, and the impassioned advocates championing the cause. They are casual users with normal lives who take a toke or eat a pot cupcake in the same way other people drink a glass of wine each evening. They don't walk around with pot leaves coyly obscuring their genitalia, and they don't fellate their bongs, at least not for pot porn pictorials. Many of these women have been thinking about gender divides, too, not least because so many of them put their lives on the line for their jobs. - Elle Magazine
Solitary resin glands consisting of one or two dozen cells are most often at the tips of slender trichome stalks which form an extension of the plant's surface. These glands secrete an aromatic terpenoid containing resin with a very high content of cannabinoids, which collect under a thin membrane surrounding the secretory head cells. The resin contains a variety of constituents, any of which might play a role in the biological activities of the cannabis plant. Among these are at least 66 cannabinoids, along with various terpenoids and flavonoids. The cannabinoids make up around 80% of the resinous secretion of the glandular hairs, and are odorless, it's actually the terpenoid compounds that give cannabis its distinctive smell.
Not all cannabinoids identified are present in all cannabis products. The main ones detected are THC, CBN, CBD, CBG and CBC, and there is enormous variation in their quantitative ratios, from strain to strain and even crop to crop, depending on other non genetic factors such as light, available nutrients and minerals, etc. The adaptive significance of the resin glands remains speculative but most probably they act as defense compounds against insect and fungal attack.
Along with their cannabis, customers at Los Angeles marijuana dispensaries are getting a dose of campaign information and election advice. The dispute over Proposition D and Proposition F has divided LA's cannabis community. Proposition D says it will bring peace to LA's marijuana dispute by limiting the number of dispensaries to 135, all of which have operated since September of 2007. But Prop. F would exempt from that numerical limit dwellings where three or fewer people cultivate marijuana for patients. The measure would also increase the municipal tax on marijuana dispensaries from $50 to $60 for each $1,000 of gross receipts earned. - KCRW Los Angeles
While cannabis' therapeutic properties were being all but ignored by the Europeans, in India, entire systems of medicine were being built up around it. The herb's intoxicating effect was very closely tied to its remedial use. Because of its psychoactive properties it was prized more than ordinary medicines. It was prescribed for a variety of ailments, including dandruff, headaches, mania, insomnia, venereal disease, leprosy, whooping cough and tuberculosis.
