420 Girls

This week marked a first for Colorado and the cannabis industry as a whole, its first ever job fair. The event was held in the downtown Denver headquarters of cannabis vaporizing device manufacturer O-penVAPE which organized the fair. O-penVAPE representatives said the event was put on to assist match job seekers 21 years old and older with Denver cannabis employers looking for qualified candidates. - Forbes

Although statistics on gendered use of marijuana are hazy, pot is increasingly seen as a regular, even health affirming part of women's lives. We see it both in pop culture and in our social circles. More women are willing to acknowledge their personal marijuana use, whether for medical uses or adult uses. Betty Aldworth, deputy director of the National Cannabis Industry Association, says of the growing openness. What's more, with state laws becoming more and more progressive, smoking pot, whether for medicinal or recreational purposes, doesn't automatically carry the go directly to jail risk that it used to.

The prohibitionists tell us that the smoking of marijuana by pregnant women results in lower birth weights and less intelligent babies. The scientific research tells us that toking mothers have babies that are just as healthy, with birth weights just as normal, as babies born of non toking mothers. And you know what else the research showed? That the babies of pot smoking mothers scored better on laboratory tests of cognition than babies of non smoking mothers. Another independent scientific study showed that babies of marijuana using mothers have a lower mortality rate than babies of mothers who didn't use any drugs at all!

People use weed to get off of opiates, alcohol, tobacco, heroin, cocaine and other powerful drugs. Thus, it is gaining traction as an exit drug, instead of a gateway drug. Seniors also secretly use it to improve their cognition. Not a brain dead loser? No, not according to the scientific data. The opposite is true as researchers find that the plant allows neurogenesis in the brain, the growth of new neural pathways, even when the brain had been damaged by age or trauma. - Huffington Post

Smoking the herb is the least effective way to gain the vast array of medical benefits from its use. Doctors, lawyers, CEOs of major companies, accountants and other highly trained professionals use marijuana daily and feel it vastly improves their wellbeing and ability to handle stress. A respected medical doctor, Dr. William Courtney, encourages patients with chronic illnesses to juice 10 to 20 fresh marijuana leaves daily. This concentrated green drink is not psychoactive and floods the body with cannabinoid nutrients that help reverse degenerative diseases. - Huffington Post

That's right, a recent study of 5,000 pot smokers by UCSF and University of Alabama showed that those who only smoke a few joints a week actually had stronger lung capacity and external blowing force than non users. A 2005 UCLA paper also shows that marijuana smoke might actually help to PREVENT lung cancer. Unlike tobacco, which contains nicotine and is a known carcinogen, marijuana contains cannabinoids and THC, which seem to discourage cancer. It is also impossible to die of an overdose. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

About 80 years ago, United Sates citizens were celebrating the repeal of prohibition. In 2014, a similar celebration happened in Colorado on New Year's Day. On Jan. 1, 2014, Colorado opened its first retail recreational marijuana stores across the state. Hundreds lined up ahead of the store openings to be among the first people in Colorado to purchase recreational marijuana legally from the newly opened stores, such as the BotanaCare marijuana store in Northglenn.

While use of cannabis was primarily medicinal in Ancient China, over in India they liked to party with it. It was a common substance, used in religious ceremonies and to help people chill out. It was often ingested as a drink, boiled with nuts and milk called Bhang. It made people happy, so much so that the British Colonial Government was concerned it might be driving the population insane. They commissioned a study and issued a report entitled The Indian Hemp Drugs Commission Report of 1894. It not only concluded that mainstream usage was harmless, but also that a ban on it might actually prove more detrimental.

They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot smoking makes you unmotivated. Lies! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it's not worth the f***ing effort. There is a difference. - Bill Hicks

Being high is one of the most pleasant sensations available to mankind. Every day is Saturday. It is to be like a child. To perceive events with clarity, to look into the gates of paradise, to completely enjoy whatever you might be doing, to smile so hard that your jaw muscles get tired. Being high is to laugh at the silliest things, to understand things that have seemed absurd before, to have the aloofness of a cat, to afford a kinship with god. To be intoxicated with marijuana makes every superlative seem within your grasp. Being high makes life seem terribly good. Being high is simply grand. - John Rosevear

In Ancient China, the plant, known as Ma, was used for food, fuel, clothing, and medicine going back to 6,000 B.C. But the oldest existing reference to medical marijuana dates to 2737 B.C. when the Red Emperor Shen Nung is credited with writing The Herbal, a listing of medicinal properties of various herbs, including Ma, to alleviate rheumatism and gout pain. In 2 A.D. Hua T'o is recorded as having used Ma-yo, the female plant, and red wine as an anesthesia while he performed painful surgeries including organ grafts and loin incisions. Yeah, you'd probably want to be high for that.

Some areas of the brain have many cannabinoid receptors, and others have few or none at all. The most can be found in areas of the brain that influence sensory and time perception, pleasure, concentrating, memory, and coordinated movement. - National Geographic

More than 20,000 studies on marijuana and its components have been published, according to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, an advocacy group. Of these, around 100 have looked into therapeutic value on human subjects. - US News

More than 20 prescription medicines containing marijuana were sold in U.S. pharmacies at the turn of the 20th century. Pot based medications were commonly available until 1942, when cannabis was stricken from the U.S. Pharmacopeia, the official compendium of drugs considered effective. From 1937 to 1942 the federal government collected a tax of $1 per ounce for such drugs. - US News

Currently, there is no systematic way to learn about which types of marijuana work best for various disorders, so budtenders read books including the Cannabible, search Web sites, talk to others in the business and monitor customer feedback about the effectiveness of certain strains. - Daily Camera

Here's a job title that didn't exist around here a couple of years ago, budtender. That would be the person helping a medical marijuana patient select the proper strain to treat his or her ailment. It's a job that requires a mix of mundane skills such using a cash register and making change, a little science nerdism to talk about the brain's cannabinoid receptors and the like, a familiarity with terms such as couch lock, since stoner descriptives can creep into a serious medical discussion. A passing knowledge of agronomy to explain hybrid strains, empathy, good communications skills, and generally, assuming the budtender has a medical marijuana card, some first hand knowledge.

Estimates suggest that from 20 to 50 million Americans routinely, albeit illegally, smoke marijuana without the benefit of direct medical supervision. Yet, despite this long history of use and the extraordinarily high numbers of social smokers, there are simply no credible reports to suggest that consuming marijuana has caused a single death. By contrast, aspirin, a commonly used, over the counter medicine, causes hundreds of deaths each year.- DEA Administrative Law Judge Francis L. Young

The primary active ingredient in marijuana is THC, delta 9 tetrhydrocannabinol. It is this chemical that produces marijuana's mind altering effects. The psychoactive side effects of THC in small doses include loss of inhibition, elation, and a distorted sense of time. The drug can also cause increased visual sensitivity and heightened imagination.
