In 2007, nearly 900,000 arrests for marijuana violations were made in the United States. Approximately 90% of offenders charged with marijuana related crimes were arrested for possession only.
"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result," as said by Albert Einstein. Prohibition of Cannabis is only one of the millions of subjects this phrase is talking about.
Hemp seed is nutritious and contains more essential fatty acids than any other source, is second only to soybeans in complete protein and is more digestible by humans. It is high in B vitamins, and is a good source of dietary fiber. Hemp seed is not psychoactive and cannot be used as a drug.
Hemp can be grown organically. Only eight, out of about one hundred known pests, cause problems, and hemp is most often grown without herbicides, fungicides or pesticides. Hemp is also a natural weed suppressor due to fast growth of the canopy.
I think that most small amounts of marijuana have been decriminalized in some places, and should be. We really need a reexamination of our entire policy on imprisonment. Our imprisonment policies are counterproductive. - Bill Clinton
We did not view marijuana as a significant health problem, as it was not. Nobody dies from marijuana. Marijuana smoking, in fact, if one wants to be honest, is a source of pleasure and amusement to countless millions of people in America, and it continues to be that way. - Peter Bourne
While America was still just 13 colonies, a 1619 law REQUIRED farmers to grow it. Hemp was used to make rope, clothing, and sails. Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson owned hemp farms, and Jefferson wrote a draft of the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper. Also, what about the flag Betsy Ross sewed? You guessed it, made of hemp
Melanie Dreher, who is the dean of nursing at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, did a study in Jamaica. It was actually published in the American Journal of Pediatrics 1994, but now it's recirculating because of all the interest in the neural protective properties. Basically, she studied women during their entire pregnancy, and then studied the babies about a year after birth. And what she studied was a group of women who did smoke cannabis during pregnancy and those who didn't. She expected to see a difference in the babies as far as birth weight and neural tests, but there was no difference whatsoever. The differences that the researchers did notice, that are unexplained and kind of curious are that the babies of the women who had smoked cannabis, and we're talking about daily use during their pregnancy, socialized more quickly, made eye contact more quickly and were easier to engage. We don't know why this is so, but all the old saws of smoking during pregnancy will result in low birth weight did not show up, at least in the Jamaican study. In U.S. studies where we've seen a similar investigation, women have concurrently been abusing alcohol and other drugs as well. - Fox News
Having reviewed all the material available to us we find ourselves in agreement with the conclusion reached by the Indian Hemp Drugs Commission appointed by the Government of India (1893-94) and the New York Mayor's Committee (1944 — LaGuardia) that the long term consumption of cannabis in moderate doses has no harmful effects. The long asserted dangers of cannabis are exaggerated and that the related law is socially damaging, if not unworkable. - UK Royal Commission, The Wootton Report
Researchers from the University of California, San Diego, found that people with Multiple Sclerosis who smoked cannabis had decreased pain and muscle tightness, called spasticity. However, the researchers warned that smoking the cannabis also led to problems with focus and attention. Symptoms of both MS and smoking cannabis.
The use of cannabis as a treatment for muscle skeletal pain in western medicine dates to the 1700s. Evidence from recent research suggests that cannabis based therapies are effective in the treatment of arthritis and the other rheumatic and degenerative hip, joint and connective tissue disorders. Since these are frequently extremely painful conditions, the well documented analgesic properties of cannabis make it useful in treating the pain associated with arthritis, both on its own and as an adjunct therapy that enhances the efficacy of opioid painkillers.
Historic references regarding the use of therapeutic cannabis for a variety of female medical conditions, including difficult childbirth, date back to the 7th century BC. According to, Cannabis Treatments in Obstetrics and Gynecology: A Historical Review, by Dr. Ethan Russo, various parts of the plant, including cannabis flowers and seeds, were used by Chinese and Persian societies to induce contractions, prevent miscarriages, and reduce incidences of postpartum hemorrhage. By the mid 19th century, the use of cannabis tinctures became prevalent in Western cultures to hasten pregnancy and reduce prepartum nausea. The historical use of cannabis use for pregnancy associated pain and other complications is also referenced in African, Indian, and Southeast Asian cultures.
Marijuana has been shown to decrease nausea and increase appetite, which can be essential for patients who are having difficulty keeping down food or maintaining adequate nutrition. For glaucoma sufferers, marijuana helps to lower intraocular eye pressure. Also, some types of pain, such as peripheral neuropathy, respond better to marijuana than conventional pain relievers. For some cancer and AIDS patients, drugs that are supposed to boost appetite simply don't work. Other patients are tired of using medications that can be considered narcotic, addictive, or dangerous, or that produce unpleasant side effects.
Though the stereotypical marijuana user is often a man, marijuana, in fact, has specific healing properties for women. It can treat menstrual cramps, ease pain from contractions during childbirth and even function as an aphrodisiac. Despite marijuana's female specific benefits, support for marijuana legalization among American women, whether it be medicinal or personal use, has long lagged behind that of men by about 5 to 10 percentage points. But as marijuana's medicinal powers for children gain international attention and myths associated with the drug and those who use it are debunked, female support for marijuana legalization is increasing. Women are coming out of the cannabis closet in order to prove marijuana is not just for boys and using the substance doesn't make women bad people or inadequate mothers.
California based entrepreneur in Soquel, California, has created a new line of soda pot or marijuana soda and plans to roll out in February in Colorado. Or at least, he never inhaled? - International Business Times
According to the Department of Energy, hemp as a biomass fuel producer requires the least specialized growing and processing procedures of all hemp products. The hydrocarbons in hemp can be processed into a wide range of biomass energy sources, from fuel pellets to liquid fuels and gas. Development of bio-fuels could significantly reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and nuclear power.
A small town in the obscure region of Parvati Valley in Himachal Pradesh Kullu district, Rashol is a home to around 1500 people and large cannabis farms. Most of the people are either traditional shepherds or herb hunters, and belong to the upper caste Hindu. Their first encounter with lower altitude people happened in early 70s when disillusioned Europeans in search of Nirvana and radicalism came to Himalayan regions and smoked some mind altering cannabis buds.
Hemp produces more pulp per acre than timber on a sustainable basis, and can be used for every quality of paper. Hemp paper manufacturing can reduce wastewater contamination. Hemp's low lignin content reduces the need for acids used in pulping, and its creamy color lends itself to environmentally friendly bleaching instead of harsh chlorine compounds. Less bleaching results in less dioxin and fewer chemical by products.
