2nd Grow - SIP, KS5000, Banana Tropicanna & Orange Hill Special Photos

Yeah mate I thought it best to keep them seperate, I will eventually do one proper perpetual journal I think but I wanna get the hang of things first :)

It's not too much work currently as it's just loads of watering and refilling humidifiers/emptying dehumidifiers but soon it will be picking up pace when I've gotta keep on top of training and add in drying/curing to the mix.

I can't imagine how busy you will be lol  I don't envy you... well maybe a bit ;)

Yeah maybe a month left till harvest and this one is maybe 4-5 weeks from flip, timing should work out pretty well 🤞
Your plants are looking great! Can’t wait to see how these GroBuckets work for you.

I just wanted to say that I’m glad you’re keeping your journals separate and not as a Perpetual Grow. Makes it easy to read and catch up to the current conversation. Just my two cents as a grow journal reader.

I’m doing my first quadlines too and Im absolutely sold on this technique. The guide on this site is fantastic. I snapped one of my four remaining branches off and ended up with a Tri-line….so bend carefully. Im also waiting for my sip buckets to arrive, so I look forward to seeing your experience with those GroBuckets.

Thanks for the detailed journal. I’m pulling up a chair.

Or better yet, take more than one try to get it in the place you want if you meet any resistance. I'll bend them over multiple days to get them in place. Doesn't have to be forced all in one go or you risk snapping a branch as @Twalte says.

Hey @Twalte - Thanks a lot for the kind words, I'm very happy with how things are going :) I'll bare that in mind, I do agree thinking about it.. it's harder to keep up with the huge journals that are hundreds of pages long, even though they contain a huge wealth of info, I struggle to keep up when life is busy!

I'll keep mine seperate going forward! I'll definitely bend carefully mate I had some injuries on my first grow which has taught me patience and to be very delicate lol.

This one is actually not a GroBucket but my autos are in GroBuckets, it's exactly the same concept of course but I built these with some waste pipe & a food container. The drainage isn't quite perfect after some use but I can't change it till the next grow now lol.

I look forward to seeing you adopt this method, I'm sure your results will be incredible :) I'll check out your journals when I get chance, love to see how your doing things :)

Looking good Weff :)
Cheers Carmen, she's getting there!! Think she needs urgent training so once I am done with this mind numbing work/job I'm gonna try my hand at tying them down.

I'll keep that in mind, definitely no snapping I need this lady to eventually fill out a 4x4 as much as she can :D

So I started training today, very cautiously so right now there's not much pressure bending them down but I plan to add more tomorrow so it's gradual.

Further tied things down today, I think they are set now gonna see how they evolve over next few days. Full res is taking maybe 62 hours ish currently. Environment still ideal @ 25c/62% rH average.

I think I'm gonna have to tie down outside of the pot? Not sure yet will see how it goes.

This thing is already bigger than the 5 gallon bucket and it's still very early days, be interesting to see how much wider she gets as space might be a limiting factor in the veg tent!

So I'm curious about two things now, do I keep the plant horizontal as it grows out? This would require some fastening to way outside of the pot as it progresses.

Second thing is about what to chop, from Quadsquad thread I read that I should be chopping all leaves that point back towards the centre as they will block light, and also every other node that grows underneath as that won't get proper light. Gonna let it grow out slightly so I can get a better grasp on that because at the moment I'm not seeing any nodes "underneath" .

I filled res again, this feed and last feed included Seaweed and Nettle tonic, I used quite a lot of those bottles in one feed so I'm guessing I can leave the seaweed and nettle tonic for a bit now before feeding it again.

Thanks Carmen :D I couldn't be happier with how this one is going so far, considering it has another 4+ weeks in this tent I'm just worried about how big she gets  The very best problem to have!

Your quadline is coming along great! I tried to go horizontal as long as possible. I used binder clips attached to the pot to bend the ends as long as possible. I also used some plant bending clips to control her in veg as long as possible.

This is my first quadline too and I’m following the same instructions. Here’s a snapshot of the nodes underneath the lowest branches that will never reach the top of the canopy…..see the two that I removed from under my two lowest quadline branches. I still missed a few more that I should have removed. I don’t see any on your branches yet.

Keep it up……they’re looking awesome.

You can use binder clips to tie them to the edge of the pot, or better yet, use them to hold down BBQ skewers or chopsticks or something to extend out beyond the edge. But that's dependent on your flower space since they will grow  out as well as up when you let them grow up so you need to account for width when you train them.

I take off the new growth growing both straight up  and down. The new growth nodes will spiral around the stem, one pair up and down and the next side to side.

The ones growing straight up will want to become dominant and I want everything even, and the lowers come off because they'll just clog things up as they twist higher towards the light.

Thanks @Azimuth , I've tried to follow this and I've done this for one of the 4 main stems, I wanted to post here and check with you before I do any more lol... I think I see exactly what you mean but it's going so well I don't want to be hasty with any step.

Also wondering if I should remove the extremely large fan leaves underneath the quadline node 4/5 ? These are branches that just have one huge leaf and nestle directly under the main 4 branches.
Here is a pic showing them clearly:

I've removed the up/down nodes which were near the garden peg on the following pics:

What I meant about the binder clips and BBQ skewers is to put the skewers horizontally through the binder clips to extend the tie down point well past the edge of the pot.

Growers preference. I leave the fan leaves on but take off the growing tips. The fan leaves are like solar panels and also store nutrients, of which the mobile ones can be a source for the remaining growing tips in the event of a deficiency.

Also grower's choice but that's how I do it because I'm space challenged. Plus, I rather have fewer, but larger, buds than a bunch of small ones to make trimming easier.

Well I agree with your logic that ones that grow up will want to grow taller, ones that grow down will obviously be larfy/low light so I'm happy with copying your plan of action, I plan to just grow it out horizontally for as long as I can so I can try fill the tent as best I can.

It may turn out quadlining isn't the best approach for this but it's a training technique I definitely wanna get down and see the results of, I can analyse at the end of this grow whether I wanna try out something different :D

I was just testing out the binder/skewer thing, have I not got it right there lol? I've not tied anything too it but it sticks out from the edge of the pot giving me something to tie down with, I was trying to find images I've seen of people using them but I really should have bookmarked it.

Thanks for the confirmation I've gone ahead and done the rest, she's a manicured lady now and the reservoir is already empty again so she's a big drinker too. Gonna quickly fill it up before lights out and then see how she gets on! Will post updated pics very soon.

Try putting the BBQ skewer thru the handles of the binder clip so the skewer lays flat and sticks out both sides of the pot. That will give you a few extra inches outside of the pot's rim to tie down even wider. Depending on the width of your pots you may have to tape a couple of skewers together to get them to be wide enough.

Ahh okay, I might need slightly thicker skewers in that case, it's slightly too small to hold itself in the handle and kinda just flops out

Or yeah I'm dumb, I'll tape two together and it should be a tight fit lol :)) Thanks mate.
:D

I had a few busy days, come back and I've got like 150 notifications to check, damn these journals move quickly :D

I haven't adopted the BBQ sticks method because I've run out of room, I was waiting a day or two till the next nodes grew out and basically they are already touching the sides of the tent, so I guess my only option now is up lol?

I definitely need to remove some leaves, this is just 3 days growth so it could quickly grow out of control here xD

Don't think there's much more training I can do currently? Space is limited for at least another week or two weeks till space opens up in the 4x4 for flip, hoping she just grows up a little bit now I guess.

There's some slight lighter colouring on the tips of the top leaves, as well as a tiny bit of clawingI believe this is light being too close so I've raised it a few inches and will monitor. If anyone has another suggestion please let me know <3
