1st Grow - Ebb-N-Grow : Afghan Kush, White Widow, Bag Seed!

SF;
I'm starting my fifth week,
we're at 12 inches high on the best ones, (a little behind I think from the mishap)
(sorry I gotta read the picture upload instuctions again)
I'm using Flora Nova Grow 7-4-10

Problems with the controller bucket now too. The drain float won't kick in, water everywhere
Got a loaner comming in tomorrow,

MB.

Do you have an updated picture, the one in your journal is from the other day, and won't show the guys much progress?

Here's from the other day.

I'll never try and BS you if it's something I don't feel comfortable answering. After finishing this post I'll ask a couple of the guys that have multiple runs with this system to offer you suggestions. You don't have a journal, so feel free to correspond here, no worries!

I see that you are pretty far along (at five weeks) and your PPM should be close to 1400-1500 by now. I don't think you can slam them that fast at this point, but on the other hand, the proper time to get this up to that PPM would mean a very long veg cycle for you. You could have some 8 foot plants by the time you're done with flowering.

See if you can post an updated picture, and I'll see if the guys can offer some help.

We'll get you there man. Hang tough.

Hey, it worked! I know i'm a_______

MB.

We've all been there man! It's definitely all good. The hardest part will probably be waiting for some answers for you. Here are some questions that might come your way pretty quickly, and it might help to post your answers.

Veg of Flower and how long? 5 weeks from clones
When was your last reservoir change?
Water source and PPM? (RO water, tap water)
Current PH Res:
Nutes mfg:
Are you using the nute calculator?
RH and Temp of room?
Flood cycle:

I'm sure you need to get those PPM's up based on your nute schedule. We know they were underfed as you were only flooding 1x/day up until a couple of days ago. When did you do your last res change (what was the PPM) and what did you increase to?

Again, this data will help with the larger picture.

This should help you guys diagnois,

changed water yesterday is was at 550 ppm when I dumped
after thier last watering after going to sleep I raised it to 750.
Its been simmering since, now they're awake now, and I need to soak 'em.
(manually doing it til the loaner controller bucket comes in tomorrow)

Yea, just the one so far, SF
I've raised the night time temp up as well.
65 last night for the little guys, they really seem to like that!
Big difference, the Cherry's are a week ahead of the Goo but both really have responded here over the weekend!!!!

SUcks about the controller, I had a bum one come with a setup. It drained 2/3 of the 55 gallon drum into my DR240W tent. You all will be happy to know that the liner in the bottom is indeed water proof. Not a drop sippled out into the room. I had to wet vac my tent out though. Got the controller swapped out monitored several fill and drains and all has been ok.

You should follow the MFG's schedule or calculator as close as possible making small adjustments as needed. If they call for 2 components in veg then by all means you should be running both unless its some extraneous additive. FOr example if calls for XYZ Grow A+B during veg dont just run A or just run B follow what they say in the right ratios. SOmetimes they have to separate their nutes into separate containers because in those high concentrations they can react with each other and turn to unusable salts and fall out of solution.

Looking at your plants you need to get the right mixture going and at the right PPM. I'd go to 1000 PPM using proper components and monitor plants for 24 hours if they are getting better ands not burnt go to 1250 ish PPM then 1500 over the course of the next couple of days.

Noreast & McB;
Thanks for the support!
Yes I have an airstone in the res
And I will bump lightly to 1500 after checking Flora Nova's site

Noreast, I looked at your journal the other day, Very impressive start!
I believe im only about a week behind you, so im thinking i got some catch up to do.
The little miss hap in my beginning cost me a little time I guess, oh well
great to have all this support on board!

MB I would call it dumb luck, but that would disrespect all the help I've received. So far, "knock on wood" I've managed to grow healthy bushy plants full of leaves. When I've harvested dense sticky buds, then it will be impressive!

Hang in man, you've tapped into the kind of help that will turn it around

:peace:

Thanks Guys.

Big Welcome to MichaelsBuds. May the good "spirit" look down on him and deliver him some nice consumables!

I'm still so new at growing. I don't have a handle on everything yet. Today McBudz mentions that he always supports his plants in the e-n-g. I kind of figured this would be necessary since I've seen some of them leaning a little. I've yet to find a "good" way to drill holes through binder-clips to stick metal supports through.

Here's the video on how these can be made. I've tried several different drill bits, with little success. If one of you have a little Tim Allen in you, and can offer a suggestions, I'm all ears! Thanks in advance.

Aside from supporting the plants, they seem to be thriving. One Kush that I thought was two plants (Kush #3 and #4 in previous picture) is actually ONE plant with two large colas. All the Kush are really starting to load up and hopefully the pictures this weekend will do justice. I might be "sad" to report that I've "bent over" the top of the White Widow, it came to within 2" of the light (6 foot) and think it needed to be done. I've noticed that the top has already curved up towards the light, so I'm hoping that it'll keep loading up those bud sites.

Now, moving over to the seedlings (LowRyder). Honestly it's a little hard for me to determine after only four days if they've made any progress. I still think they are trying to get acclimated to their new environment from living on that paper plate. I'll take pictures on Thursday night (7 days) to see if we can tell a difference.

That's about all for tonight. Have a great evening!

I just stick a 2-3 ft bamboo stake all the way to the bottom and tie the main stem to it at the hydroton and about 6 inches up. Not sure if it works as well in STG but it should. I just "spin" it down through the root ball. Cut a good vampire slaying point on the stake first to minimize root damage.

If you want to get funky try round tomato cages that have a small enough diameter at the bottom to fit in the bucket.

Stinky;
Thanks for the welcome!
You really have made me feel at home and welcomed to the site.
Your help has put me at ease and things have really turned around.
These guys are growing at a unbelievable rate!!!!!
They're really looking much better.
At what point do you start turning on the CO2?
I would think thats my next step here pretty soon.

MB. Anytime man! We're all here for you. As for the CO2. How's your room temp and RH in your room? If those are dialed in, you can surely use the CO2. 1500ppm.

SF, any updates?

Hey NG1. Post #275 was the update. We must have just moved a little fast and you didn't catch it. :ganjamon: How's your stuff coming along?

Hey McB. Good options, I'll see what I can rig up! Afraid I'm too far for those tomato cages and wouldn't be able to correctly put in place without damaging plants and such. Question for you Sir. (Again, reminder, still first real grow here). I noticed on the White Widow and several bud sites on the Afghan Kush, that the hairs are already turning reddish/brown, like they're developed....Is this all normal at 4 weeks of flowering? And will these be "overdone" by the time 8 weeks rolls around?

Thanks!
