1st Grow - Ebb-N-Grow : Afghan Kush, White Widow, Bag Seed!

Careful with those long tap roots. Its dangerous letting them get like that especially when trying to transplant into a cube of some sort (soil not so much of a problem)

Try to check your germing seeds daily and take em out when they are no longer than 1/2 inch.

Absolutely, I've had them actually grow into and through the paper towels I was starting them in. That, of course, made it impossible to save the seeds.

PV, from my understanding, floranova is a one part system and very easy to use correct? I was going to use AN but I think the easier the better for me right now!

2 bottles of Flor Veg and 2 for bloom

Next time cut/tear the paper towel around the seed and plant with the paper towel scrap. It will eventually disintegrate as the roots grow through it and its constantly moist. I've had the same thing happen too.

McB.

I listed this as "strike two". Newb mistake by not having all the supplies ready before starting your seeds. I was MOST careful when dealing with the roots, but I agree with you that this was a bone-head move. Although you didn't state that exactly, I feel you. ;-)

Ahh I gotcha. Looks like a pile of those bean sprout things I cant stand that come in salads sometimes lol

 - I can't stand bean sprouts either!

I assume I've got to get these STG cubes covered as well, or we'll be having that algae thing happening all over again?

I'm anxious for you to see the pics of the E-n-G grow!

Thanks Pal!

Hey SF,
Are you using tap water on your towels and where do you keep them ?

Noa.

These were actually just drenched with bottled spring water from the grocery store. (Probably close to 2x/day, due to low humidity these months).

I had another paper plate that covered them, 24/7, and they were sitting on the kitchen table.

Pretty easy stuff. Almost 100% effective, unless you have any "bad" seeds.

Funny, I always tell them to hold the grass, I'm not a fan of sprouts either!

I figure, if you're doing bean sprouts, you might as well go outside and start eating the front lawn.

FPF, just read another post on the coin your dropping for your custom system. Really hope you'll post some pics. I know you want to keep on the "down-low", but I'll still be looking for whatever you're going to share.

Have a great weekend man!

PS. Does my EcoGrower qualify as Deep Water Culture? :-)

And that doesn't include much of what I need. But you bet, I'll def show the set up when done. I'm thinking of making it modular and then selling kits, may be able to make a buck that way too!

Question:

Probably should have asked this before I started....but hey.

Do I have enough light for my space?
Dimensions: 8x6 (grow space~7x4)

Currently using 1000w on a light mover.

Thanks!
SF

Well technical your running at ~ 1/2 potential. 10,000 Lumens per square foot being optimal

140,000 lumens / 28sq ft (7*4) = 5000 lumens per sq foot.

According to Jorge Cervantes in "Marijuana Horticulture the Indoor/Outdoor Medical Growers Bible" light movers increase efficiency by 25-35% tho which would put you at up to a hypothetical 6750 lumens per sq ft (5000*1.35)

But thats just the math, maybe people with more experience with HPS or light movers can weigh in better, but plants only need ~3000 lumens per square foot to grow "effectively" if memory serves me correct

But you've got to consider the inverse square law, or how far are your lights away from your plants? Yes, a 1000w hps puts out 140,000 lumens at 1', but generally they can't be placed that close due to heat. At a distance of 3', the recommended minimum without remediation, the plants only receive ~ 15,500 lumens, a clear deficiency.

Thanks guys for the help with the light! I'll have a couple of follow up questions as soon as I can get some "drama" sorted out. Did you ever have one of those days? Yesterday is was 70 degrees outside, today (1st day of Spring) and it's snowing! BS.

Then I go to check out the LowRyders, working in the most simple Hydropoinic system, drip, and I notice no water is coming out of the lines. I think it's the pump, because when I blow into the line (normally plugged into pump) the water drips from the tubes. The pump appears to be working, I can hear it, and there are small bubbles when I place it (the tube) directly in the water, but for some reason, it doesn't look like it's pumping hard enough. It's model Elite 800. I'm sure it can't be more than $25.00, so I'll run to PetCo to see about a replacement. If you can think of anything else, please let me know.

I did get some pictures of the ebb-n-grow, I just don't have a second yet to post them, so later today/tonight I'll get them up. Things look good.

Thanks guys!

SF, make sure the pump isn't air locked. With it running, turn it upside down under water, if there's air in there lockin it up then it will come out and work fine, if not, sounds like its time for a new one.
