1st Grow - Ebb-N-Grow : Afghan Kush, White Widow, Bag Seed!

So as mentioned, I got some close-up shots of the CO2 equipment for "closer" inspection and reference for you guys.

So normally, you would purchase just the CAP controller, and you can set the timers to activate your solenoid at given periods, when you add the OPTIONAL CAP Monitor, then it removes the timer intervals and is determined by the computer which calls for more CO2 to keep the level at the pre-set amount of 1500.

The CO2 tube I have attached to the pedestal fan in the room which distributes the CO2.

Hope this helps paints a picture of how this works. When I move from the tanks to the generator, I'll just replace the AC power cable from the solenoid to the generator power cable. I'll probably end up going with the electronic ignition version of the generator since I really don't want an open flame with a pilot light burning constantly.

On a "safety" note, I'm a little concerned about putting a generator in the house, it states in the manual not for home use, but if I can meet the parameters stated, 18" from walls, etc, I'm wondering if everything will be safe enough. I know Pit has a generator, but it looks like he has concrete walls/slab surrounding his grow room. I'm all finished drywall. Am I being overtly concerned?

Thanks all.

I know what it says....you can use them on drywall...I think its 18" min distance between it and a wall. It doesnt get that hot..trust me. yes you will have a heater now

Hi FPF.

Yeah, I haven't gotten to NEF's post, but if I recall he mentioned that he's not using a CO2 monitor, which I'm pretty sure is the difference. I could set the timer for CO2 manually, and could probably get a much longer length on the tanks, but the PPM's wouldn't be high enough.

As for moving over to a generator, the CAP monitor device will work with the generator so no real $$ loss there. I'll have to go the propane route, just no real way to extend the gas line to the front of the house.

Thanks for the comparison/break-down of the costs involved. I'm sure many will find it helpful!

No monitor, that sounds plausible. Because I know you do need to pump a significant amount of co2 in there to get the results. When I was looking at the yeast/sugar method (which I put into my closets this morning!) I realized I needed a lot of that mix to get the job done, but I never had any idea of just how much a co2 tank would do.

Again, thanks for the timing of this discussion, I'm in the market to buy something within the next week or two. You're timing is immaculate!

One thing a buddy mentioned the other day. He's got some wine fermenting in the same room as his closet, now there's an innovative idea for getting the co2! Looks like I'll be brewing up a batch of wine before this is all over.

Later man.

Thanks for the pics and the explanation! I'm learning a lot from you man, thanks!

As always, thanks Bro. Didn't think about the heater equation. Guess I'll have to think of some ventilation possibilities.

Thanks FPF. I'm doing my best. We may have a generator before this grow is finished yet. ;-) - I'm a quite impatient guy. In addition to being a StinkFinger, I have a pretty itchy credit card finger as well.

Early Bud Nude Shot
The lonely White Widow Female, after losing 4 due to males. I'm really, really disappointed guys! I just can't believe I'm going to have to wait and grow this again. She is TALL. Pert near 5'6". Cutting it close with 7' ceilings and room for the light mover and light fixture.

Okay, I'll accept that excuse for acting like a hick! lol

Personally though, sometimes I don't mind being a hick. I build multi-million dollar houses here in Aspen, I'm an Architect. I can't tell you the number of times someone has come up here from the "big city" to show us hicks how to build. Let's just say the last guy got thrown off the job. Us hicks up here know how to build some damn nice houses, and how to get the job done.

Thanks for posting the pic of your Co2 set up. Does that solenoid come with the controller or was it separate?

Hi KM.

Here's more info then requested, but a good reference for all.

Solenoid is separate, but the cheapest of the bunch, ;-)

Here's the break-down.

$113.00 - Sentinel - Solenoid
$250.00 - CAP CO2-2e - Temperature, Humidity & CO2 Control
$370.00 - CAP PPM-1c - CO2 and PPM monitor (Optional)
$20.00/month - 2 tanks - Rented 25# tanks
$18.80/each - 2 tanks - CO2 refill rate

If anyone needs info on where I purchased from, just shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to let you know.

Chuckles. Thanks FPF.

Have some great memories of Colorado, Aspen also. Honestly I would never have picked anything "hickish" about the people of Colorado! Hickish boundary starts South of Cairo, IL. LOL

And excuse the correction, but wouldn't the correct vernacular be, "Get'er Done"?

Comming in late but i'm here for the ride!!!

Well organized posts too, alot of informative info on C02 being posting in here lately. Keep it up sir :thumb:

Thanks WOW, welcome man! We shall succeed, or fail miserably together, ;-)

Told you I was following you around. Boy, I am late for this one. Reading to here has been an education for me. I'll be taking this all in. Fine job. Can't believe how fast they grew for you. :ganjamon:

Ladies and Gentlemen, let's give it up for Mr. Hawaii surfin in to the journal. OldMedMan....

Hey Pal. I'm glad you found me. I feel a little like you on your first run. Pit/McBudz have been helping me through, as well as everyone keeping me in check. So far so good. No need for Pinky yet, but I might give you a shout!

Really glad you stopped by OMM!

PS. After re-reading my rant on Pits journal, I kind of feel like the next day after you tie-one-on. Sometimes I just can't help myself.

Update 03/17/2010

Quick update on things.

-Rigged/raised the light as high as possible (about 6 feet from floor). Plants have at the most 1 foot of available space. Based on McB prediction of stretching stopping hopefully this will be enough

-Changed bulb back to HPS. Used MH for last week to control some vertical growth

-Plants have consumed about 10 gallons of water, topped of res with tap water

-One day without CO2, tank swap tomorrow

-Newb Alert: So the lowryder are still on the plate with wet paper towels. Oh no, oh yes. I hope they're not too far along for me to get them going. Tonight I promise! Three of them have massive tap roots already, and the other two have cracked the seeds but aren't nearly as robust. Have been waiting for the Coco Pots which arrived today. I'll take some pics of the whole sch-bang tonight for everyone to see the possible (probable) disaster.

Think that's about it. All have a great day.

Zoom.

I almost forgot. Happy St. Patty's Day to all my Irish brotha's out there!

I'm not Irish, but I'm wearing a green shirt today for ya! Probably gonna have to stop at McD's for one of those Sham-o-lam Green shakes.

Thanks from all us Irish folks.
It's really the only day of the year I'm drunk before 9:00 unless it's from the night before.
Yes, I'm aware it's a religious day in Ireland.
