Calling out @farside05 to help me build my soilless mix with the products i can have in my country!!!!

- I can find peat moss (natural) without fertilizer and peat moss with firtilizer!
-Peat moss with fertilizer in it has these values:
White peat + NPK fertiliser (18-10-20) incl. trace elements + wetting agent

pH value (CaCl2): 5,2 - 6,0
Salt content (KCl): approx. 1,6 g/l
Nitrogen (N): 220 - 360 mg/l
Phosphate (P2O5): 120 - 200 mg/l
Potassium oxide (K2O): 240 - 400 mg/l

Question, is it better to start with natural peatmoss without ferts with a ph of 2-3?

Also @farside05 i cant get epsoma lime here but i found a dolo lime in powdered form with these values:

Happy new year!

Farside isn't around as much as he used to be, so I'd check out his Faux-Mix thread if you haven't seen it. He doesn't blend any fertilizers in as it's just an approximation of what's in ProMix HP available in the US.

I don't know how the powdered lime compares to the Epsoma pelletized version so I can't offer any guidance there.

I have seen the farside thread recipe for soiless mix. He uses lambert peatmoss but i couldnt find if lambert is with or without fertilizers!

I will keep looking for that epsoma lime hopefully i can find it…

Btw can i re use my soil as it is? (canna pro soil)☺️

You should be able to reuse the canna pro peat mix, but I would amend with the lime when you find it to make sure it will continue to buffer the medium's pH for the next grow.

:ciao:
So the only thing I would suggest is to do a pH test on the medium before adding any lime. You may find out that it is just fine without it. I know FFOF is not the same, but I can go a couple of rounds before adding lime.
This will also give you an idea if you need to add a little, or a lot, of lime.

Again, just a suggestion. I'm not around enough to bully an answer anymore 😀

Excellent idea.

Will perform a slurry using distilled on a fresh bag of soil and do the same for the soil on the pot and compare the ph and ppm

I know that peat-based media don't buffer anywhere near as long as soil, and that's direct from the manufacturer of ProMix! Still, no harm in slurry testing ever. I do it to new bags of Fox Farms and they're almost always in the mid 5's. I add lime to every planting I do.

Keep in mind that it takes 3 or 4 days post-first watering for the lime in peat mixes to begin to buffer, so it might test low straight out of the bag.
