1000 Watt Water Cooled Grow

I used to run Linux and I thought Gimp was for Linux, do they have a windows version?

edit: I figured it out, they have a nice little windows installer.

:thankyou:

I updated the last picture with a newly re-sized one using gimp -- great program. Here is the old version. You can really tell the difference. The new one is much clearer.

So i gave the plants their second feeding today, this time with 1/2 strength nutes. They are really looking great, starting to green up, and the 5th node is growing out. :smokin:
Tomorrow I am probably going to be topping, depending on how far the 5th node has grown out. I will post detailed pics of each plant with before and after shots.

Thanks for the bump.

Yeah I know I could grow a lot more, but I have space constraints. I have been thinking about setting up a 4x4 ebb-n-flow table to fit inside the tent or a DWC/areoponic system...we'll see. For now I am content with what I have. 4 decent size plants should be more than enough to supply my needs.

haven't used aero because I know its too noisy for my situation. DWC is pushin the noise level as teh pumps cause a lot of vibration.

I've done a couple DWC and an E&F and I would rather set up and grow with E&F. Even though it has a higher startup cost and a lower yield the ability to use soil and containers makes it easier to move plants, better taste and overall quality, but a slightly lower yield. The reason E&F is so much better is that the reservoir is much easier to access and work with - in DWC the plant sits above the reservoir and it makes it kind of a hassle you either have to move the plants or move the whole thing or syphon or something but with E&F you can just pull the res out and work on it without having to disturb the plants a bit.

Hell ya man you gonna transplant into larger containers? You may easily pull a few ounces off of each.

Yeah they are going to be put in 5 gallon microKote pots once they are big enough. This past watering was done 5 days after the last. Probably gunna up-can once I am watering every 2 days. I want them to get as big as possible in the 1 gallons to make full use of the root pruning. I'm a little concerned with height issues, but I don't think it will be much of a problem.

I have been meaning to read your grow but I have been mad busy lately, barely had anytime to spend with the plants.

KiwiKing, looks as though all is well. When you transplant it will help to put more perlite in the soil mix to help improve airiness in the root zone.
I've got some 100% perlite hempy's going and they hold water for a day with smaller plants. I also have a 1-2 month old clone in a 16oz FF soil cup, gets watered maybe weekly. It is a runt, because the roots can't breath.

Kiwi, looking great bro, just got caught up. I have some comments for ya:

I like the homemade chiller, as I like most DIY. I am getting a fresca myself, i was gonna get a hood and some ice box's, but the fresca turned out to be cheaper. I already have a chiller so I'm set on that. its a small one and was fairly cheap. . . wha did you spen to build yours? it's 150 watts and about $220-250. google "Aqua Euro CL-150". I think, given the 12 hour dark cycle, It will be able to keep it fairly cool. I'm gonna use a 55 gal res. . . since you are using one, check it out, tell me what you think.

about the light. . . and pretty much everything else. . . that chart is just a general guideline. . . how fast a plant can grow will depend on a lot of things including light, co2, nutes, etc, etc. The plant will be limited by one before the others, and that will be as fast as the plant will grow. . . so if you add co2, or have a better nute regimen, or its warmer outside, your plant will be able to use more light.

that being said, there is prob a general upper bound in non-co2 enriched areas and that chart is probably a good guideline for that. . . the advantage to 1000w over 600 is twofold. one, better penetration. more light means it will get down deeper into the canopy. two, coverage. even if you had everything optimum, that two extra inches of height will give you a lot more area to cover. IMO, there is no need to run them that close, i would want 1kw to be at least a foot away, regardless of how hot it was. probably more like 16-18" at closest in full bloom

I'll be watching bro. this will be fun. that 1k is gonna kick the hell out of that tent bro.

Thanks for the tip. Right now I am using 20% perlite w/ the FFOF. Do you think I should go up to 30% when I up-can?

Great job so far awesome looking little plants. I'm tuned in!

Welcome, and thanks for the rep!

yeah perlite is really good. there is a lot of it in most of my mixes although now I"m moving straight to pure coco in conjunction with a smart pot for aeration and I expect to see vast improvement in my root systems.

What percentage perlite would you recommend with the FFOF?

Yeah the fresca is great. The only problem I have with it, is when I first set it up, my tube clamps weren't tight enough and some water leaked into the inner chamber. This doesn't cause a problem with the lamp because it has drains, but left some dried residue on the glass. To clean it you have to take the lamp apart.
My chiller was actually free, but its 500 watts. Actually haven't been using it a since I set it up as I moved my rez to a cooler location, but will need it for summer. I really like the fact that that chiller is only 150 watts. Pleaselet me know how it works out, may need to switch off. If you look on ebay, you can find brand new ACs for around $75, and depending on your area, you can pick one up for really cheap...like $5 for a used on.
Thanks for the info on the light, been wondering and its good to know. I am happy with the 1000w.

**To all. I have been having RH issues with it getting down to 30-35. I picked up a warm air humidifier but it gets it to 60 in 30 min and I'm not around to plug and unplug it all day. That being said I checked out ebay and found a MONSTER buy. I found a humidity controlled, 1.5 gallon, cool mist with filter/deionizer for $40 with shipping. I checked out the retail, and it sells for $168 new!!! So anyone interested, search ebay for Humidifiers: Ultrasonic Cool-Mist Humidifier: Brand New. It's the one for 19.99 ($20 shipping), a 3500x model.

Ok, so I wanted your all's opinion about topping. I am wondering if it would be safe to top these plants at the 2nd node (4 tops). Was going to do it today, but am a little uncomfortably about their size. The new growth is the 5th node on all of them.
Also wondering if you think I should even top the Mako Haze, its secondary growth isn't near as strong as the l*D and Milky way.

For starters a comparison canopy shot.

I am not going to be topping the SLH since it is behind the others.

ALSO, BIG props to onthe420train for helping me get my pictures figured out. I'm now using GIMP software.

when you go to your pics in your album, you have to click on them to get to the big size. then paste that img.

how many plants are you going to grow in there? just the four? you could wait a week and clone them. that would effectively top them, and then you'd have 8 plants in your area. . . 1kw is a ton of light, and having more plants would cut down your veg time considerably. do you have cloning materials? have you cloned before?

btw, sorry if you said this before, but how long do you plan to veg? are you going to wait for alternating nodes? i like topping, but it will add some more veg time to recover.

plants look very healthy buddy. nice work so far. the L*D's leaf coverage is insane.

KiwiKing, plants look nice and healthy. I'd go up to 30% perlite, since 20% is taking the things some time to dry or get re-watered. I must have a totally different pheno for the L_S_D as mine looks nothing like yours. My L*SD is like a sativa.

Thanks for the help with img. Right now I only have supplies to grow 4 plants, plus I don't have cloning materials. I am actually not topping per say, rather I am cutting to get 4 main colas. If I "top" above the 2nd node, the 2ndary growth between the nodes will form into 4 main colas. Basically I'm hacking everything above the 2nd node off. I wanted to wait until it had 5 nodes to do this. I'm going to veg until the end of Feb, maybe until they reach 18-24"

I'll probably go up to 30% when I re-pot... Feel free to post a pic of the L*D here. I would like to compare the 2.
