I had that problem with my HPS and it was the bulb. when I removed it the insides of the bulb clanked like a bell. it still fired but once I replaced it, worked just fine from there on. hope thats all it is for you:) not that bulbs are cheap.

The fact that it is a cheap bulb hahaha yea I think its the bulb. I just came from the grow room and its looks alot dimmer than what I could recall. The light meter still reads the same but I think the lumens are done for.

yep mine was a cheap bulb from HD $30 so I dropped $100 on a good one and still have the original one that came with the fixture for a back up. that one was still working but I think it was losing it get up and go:)
 
I got a Agromax and a Hortilux the cheap bulb was a sylvania I think
 
I may spend the hortalux money on a HPS bulb and go with another cheap veg bulb. I was checking out the specs on a Plantmax 7200k 3900 Lumens. That bright of a light will forsure make up for the half foot of footage being lost in the lumens.

I have a true blue 6500k CFL 20w that covers my whole scrog. Thats my back up light by the way when the MH/HPS doesnt come on. So just from that I figure a 400w MH of 7200k would do the trick.

Then ill go all out for the HPS bulb. I say ill try the hortalux. Did you use that on your first grow?

No I used the agrogrow. last few weeks of my last grow I got the hortilux. think it will be a fine investment.
was looking at HTG supply's site at bulbs they have some fair prices and great customer service:)
 
I know that I asked you a long time ago about this but do you think the bulbs really make a big difference? It just seems like the difference wouldn't be much if any.
 
there is a noticeable difference believe it or not:)
but the cheap bulb got me through a grow. just could have been better:)

Yea I havent used a bulb over $30 so I cant say anything. But Ive seen youtube videos of growers using cheap bulbs getting awesome results. CMH is a cheap bulb and growers who used it says it kicks alot of the top bulbs ass. IDK im the guy that has to try everything once so Im going to go pricey on this one. Mine as well go all the way this grow already put a whole in my pocket. I can feel my leg when I have my hand in there :laughtwo:

on the other hand fish let me borrow your bulb ill ship it back when im done :)

Good weed to you WizHigh, I have three different bulbs that i use. Two of them are cheap china ones and they have been running for about year now. One of them is above my veggie flood and drain system and the tomato's are really liking it and it's a dual arch bulb. Both MH and HP and and the other is on a dimmable ballast and is a MH. My hps is a Sylvania Lumalux and it has gone through 4 flowering cycles and seems to be doing good. the china ones were 50 and the sylvania was a 100. Prices for bulbs vary so much.

Don't cheap out on the bulb dude.
At least give one a try, then if it doesn't work for you, switch back to the cheapy ones.
But I don't think you'll have that problem.

But if you're still leaning to the cheap side, I'd consider trying the Light Energy super HPS bulb.
They're great bulbs for the price.

That's some good advice. I'm going to give a pricey one a shot. I'm running two hoods, I'll put one cheap and one pricey. We'll see what happens. Wiz, I'll put the coco plant in the middle :high-five:

I'm doing exactly that right now.
Running a eye hortiulx on one side, and a Light energy on the other.
They've been in now for about a month and a half, even vegged for a few weeks with them.
And I can't really tell a difference between the sides.
The hortilux side is a little bigger, but not by much..
And both bulbs are on their second run.
 
Its sounds like its a 50/50 shot with cheap bulbs vs hortilux. Still havent made up my mind yet. I really might lean towards the hortilux so I know all will be at full performance with this grow. I know ill sleep better at night. Ill keep a cheap bulb for veg and go with the hortilux for flowering.

IDK what to do with my T5 or 2 hydrofarm air pumps now. I was planning on taking a trade for it rather then sell it. But I dont know any growers around my area. And my hydro shop doesnt take trades or used items. So I may have to make a ebay or amazon account and make some money :)

Any who my H&G Roots came into today. I have to say when I added this stuff to the res at 18ml (1.1ml per gal) man the rumbling of the water scared the shit out of me. I thought something was for sure going to blow up. I took a couple steps back :laughtwo:

It looked like it cleaned the water it self. All I can say is this stuff is some powerful shit. It also comes with a removable sealed top so no spills and guaranteed freshness. My root line up is complete well im waiting on the H&G Amino Acids now :)
