Xlr8's Quest For The Best - 2012

wow X hope you get to feelin better:)

yummy...........................:thumb:

Hey Chronic! Thanks buddy. 'Tis yummy, actually! :yummy:

The Deadhead Ripper is really amazing stuff, actually. Might be the most potent bud I've had. It hits just like how frosty it looks. Wowza! It tastes like Deadhead OG, hits like Jack the Ripper (creeper). A little more of a gradual creeper than JTR, which is a pretty fun ride.

I haven't missed anything have I?

I'm worried because my stupid bloody computer is doing t:high-five:he same things again that it did before the reformat, so I now think it's the Service Pack (I am one of the unfortunates who got stuck with Vista). The point of this is that I am in Safe Mode With Networking to get online and it is very difficult to see the screen well enough.

Fluff get confused at the best of times! :yikes:

if you know how, or have someone to help. i have a xp home legitimate key you could have, then you just need to download the disk. if you wanted to go to xp that is. i still use xp on more than half my computers, i like it more than vista for sure.

when i scrap a computer thats too old or broken to repair, i keep the keys (family owned only, not customers). lol sometimes ill hacksaw the case to keep the key before i recycle the metal

What a bummer Fluffy! Hope you get that figured out. Gigabane - that's really nice of you! Sounds like it could be a good idea, too... I'm a Mac guy from the beginning and a bit ignorant to all this Windows business. I've used Windows extensively, but only in my work career where I had IT guys to sweat the details for me. ;)
+rep for the kind offer to Fluffy, Gig. Also... good thinking on saving those keys! :bravo:

P.S. Self portrait of me enjoying the hot chocolate from Fluffy (do I look a little jaundiced in this pic?):

I think the camera makes for the yellow color:)

A few photos - dry, but still curing...

It's a bit early for a lot of conclusions, but here are my initial impressions of the 2 unique crosses I just harvested.

The Deadhead Ripper is some of the strongest bud I've ever vaped or smoked. Whooooahhh Nelllyyyy. It's very similar to "Lucy" in the flavor dept., but perhaps a bit stronger. Should be good once it's cured a bit. It's a creeper with a nice "up" feeling and a long high - 2 hours later I was still feeling good. Really nice bud.

The OG Ripper has a great flavor and a really nice "OG" style experience. So far it seems the JTR influence upped the OG yield and added some lemon to the flavor - but the high still seems OG to me (but it's really early - I'll need much more extensive testing, ;)).

looks like you got a visit from the trichome fairy ;):welldone::bravo:

woohoo:thumb:
what can i say
EXCELLENT JOB!!

holy flamin' hamster balls of glory those are gorgeous nuggets of lovely mega ultra sexy cannabis!!!

:thankyou: guys for the really awesome compliments. I'm especially pleased with how these turned out, and I was happy to get some decent pics.

I'm going to say that the new Blue Planet additives seemed to work nicely with the 3-part base nutes. I'm very happy with the results and outcome of this grow. The only downside to the new additives was a little more residue in the buckets/reservoirs (it appears to be from either Vita Blue or Seaweed), but nothing that had a negative outcome on the grow at all. Really only bothered the OCD clean freak in me. At the end of the day I had really healthy happy plants and resin production that was as good as I've ever had (Deadhead Ripper may be the best I've had for overall trich development).

I still have the Jack the Ripper female in coco coir to harvest - I've been flushing her for a few days already. Like the other I grew earlier in the year, she's pretty small in stature and won't yield big - but she's definitely getting frosty. I love how lemony/mango she smells. Jack the Ripper is one yummy plant, btw. :yummy:

grand lookin nugs X just freakin peachy they are:)

i love coco its versatile you can treat it like hydro or feed organics, it will support the microherd, and growth with it is close to hydro i hear how do you feel about that remark? since you just did both, i have compared vs reg soil its defo outgrows soil, but i have not yet done hydro, what i find neat is the increased rate with it combined with organics its like the best of both worlds ,interested in your take on this:high-five::goodjob:

Hey BID!

I like Coco coir quite a bit. Technically, it's hydro but as you mention it has the unique benefit of being able to do some things with organics and beneficials, etc. I've been using it for moms and veggers for a while now, and love it - but this is the first plant I've flowered to finish in coco coir. Because the plant I flowered out was not a great yielder and a smallish stature plant by it's nature (very compact, tight noded pheno) it's tough to draw size comparisons to the others... But, I'd do it again in a heartbeat (and will at some point). I'd say the coco coir version did as well as the clone of the same plant did a couple of rounds ago in the Flo N Gro.

I like the combo of Coir and Air Pots or Smart Pots. The added aeration from the pot makes it possible to do the coir straight up without adding perlite, or anything else to it. Simple! I do think in some ways, it's the best of both worlds. The downside for me, is the hand-watering. But, since I ran it side by side with the Flo N Gro, I literally just scooped water/nutes from the Flo N Gro reservoir to water the coir plant. Doing so really made it easy, as I didn't even have to mix up separate nutes in bloom. Plus, it demonstrates that the same nutrient formulation works equally well in either medium.

The only difference I found, was that salts seemed to build up more easily in the coir than in the Flo N Gro/hydroton. Watering with a larger run-off, and a periodic flush offsets that and makes it a non-issue. But, I burned the tips once before I realized what was happening... :)

It would be fun at some point to do identical clones, one/some in the Flo N Gro, and one in coir. Maybe at some point, hmm.... ;)

After reading a post in Jon's journal about the idea of using a male to pollinate some buds on a plant for seeds, I decided to detail the process I followed in making the seeds that resulted in the 2 plants I just harvested. It was a blast making and growing out my own crosses, and something I'd definitely do again (and probably will soon!). For anyone curious, I blogged the process I used here:

Selective pollination - how to dabble in breeding and make your own unique cross

I guess I might be a little embaressed by your hot ass photos so I will just say that I posted some at my house if you want to see.
