Xlr8's Quest For The Best - 2012

Looking good.:goodjob: ph meters I have to agree. Nothing is made to last. So I have decided to purchase Bluelab Ph pen. Previous ones HM 80 lasted about 18 months, HM 200 lasted about 13 months.

Right now I've got 6 chronic, 6 Ray's choice and 6 oceans 12. In veggie 3rd week. Will share pics soon. Thank you for your help.

Absolutely, Growprincess - any time.
Keep me posted on how you like that Bluelab - I'd value your feedback immensely for future reference. Hope you stick around -- can't wait to see your pics. Are you going to start a journal of your own, too? Feel free to share some pics here if you'd like, otherwise let me/us know if you start your own thread. :)

What is this place? Why is there so many tops sticking up?

Maybe I should stick around and find our what's going on in here!
:high-five:

Why yes, stick around my good friend, and hopefully there will be big ol' nugs on all those tops. Glad you're aboard - wouldn't be the same without ya, and frankly it would suck!

I think I confused some people by switching to a new journal, part way into this round - but you know how it goes when they get upwards of 100 pages, things get buried, people don't want to wade through it, and some peeps are hesitant to jump in and get caught up. I should have probably made the move a month ago, but hindsight is 20/20 I suppose.
:smokin:

okay, i'll be sure to talk loudly so you can hear me up on stage, if i need anything, okay?!

whaaaat?!

Wait, where did the caps go, I typed that in all caps... I guess someone doesn't want us yelling? I'm tripping out on that, your caps disappeared in my reply too, instantly. Crazy.

WHAAAAT?!

I wouldn't miss it X. I like slow take it easy journals that go 100+ pages! :high-five:

Subbed

awww... first in the second row...

Looking great though from where I'm sitting! Can't wait! HEY!! DOWN IN FRONT!

sorry I thought the ash fell on the floor:)

Gig and Fluffy, these plants were journaled in more detail in my previous journal, up to this point.
But, that journal was somewhat perpetual and had gotten up to 139 pages or something... and it was feeling a bit bloated. If you'd like to see the earlier part of this grow in more detail, Gig, it starts about here: "Xlr8's hydroponic adventures and photos from the garden". Fluffy, you've been there and you know these girls - this is a continuation, but I should have made that more clear my dear! :)

Also, I'm going to be keeping the gals on a pretty strict BPN diet the rest of the way, including some cool new products, and didn't want that to get buried in the old journal. Plus, it's only about 2 1/2 weeks into bloom, so the bud porn is really just starting - lots left to see! ;)

Lastly, I know from experience that a lot of people hate jumping into a journal that's already over 100 pages, and I thought it'd be fun to pull some new/different peeps in for the rest of the show (like you for example, Gigabane - glad you're here!). :)

Well my darling, we are here for the ride and looking forward to it no matter what!! :thumb: :cheer:

FC, I told you it's better to hide it in their hoods so they don't notice til its too late...

I really am able to ramp up to more frequent floods pretty quickly, but the key is aeration, so as long as everything is well aerated, more frequent floods in veg are probably fine, too. Also, you do have much higher intensity lights which will dry the medium more quickly, making more floods appropriate. Everyone has something a little different about their set-up or environment, so there are no real one sized fits all answers, except that you want to keep them moist and aerated. In the end you just want to get those pots bursting with roots heading into bloom, whatever that takes! :)

I'm sure it doesn't matter that one of your floods is slightly before "lights on", but in general I no longer feel floods at "night" are ideal, but I've done them without significant problems, too. As I understand it, you want to flood just long enough to fully drench the root zone of all your pots - it must take longer than 15 minutes to fully flood your pots? For smaller systems 15 minutes is usually just a limitation due to mechanical timers.

With 18 pots it just takes longer to get everything filled. I have never timed it though. hmmmmm i think I will do just that since I will be testing the flo n gro in my new room before I put it into service.
In the 55 gallon res I run 3 6in stones and i seem to get plenty of aeration from that. the res just boils. i think with the combination of the stones and Zone I'm pretty confident I'll never get RR again I agree that no flood during lights out is needed. My thinking behind the flooding 15 mins before lights on is that i want the plants to be fully hydrated before they get smacked with all that light i give them.

:thanks: UG!!

I can't wait to see your basement space come together. Looks like you'll be a busy bee for a bit. Congrats on the new gear, btw, even if it sounds like they screwed your order up a bit. Nice to have you subbed to my new journal - thanks again. :)

I need to update the information I have on the flo n gro review you did. I have some helpful tips!

Cool, sounds great, A1. You are building up some good experience with them, fo sho. :high-five:

hurrah. caught up!
i understand now about previous thread. just an idea in case you ever have to do this again. start post one with a 'continued from here' link ;)

if i keep on with dwc ill probably get into ebb and flow or NFT myself. with the amount of indoor plants i plan on growing ineed to find some way to automate my water/feed systems, so i am enjoying this journal =)

A1, do you think I need a diffrent schedule, If I use LEDs ?
Because, no much heat with those/ maybe plants need less frequent watering ?
