Xlr8's Quest For The Best - 2012

Hi X.

You may have mentioned this, but I missed it if you did. How do you know the Humidity in your jars in the first place?

Go to FleeBay and search for these:

Digital LCD Temperature Humidity 10% RH-95% Hygrometer Thermometer Black NEW

They will fit in your jar and will tell you the Humidity and Temp. They cost less than 1 dollar each.

Xlr8, your girls are just picture perfect. Great job with the crosses. :high-five:

Hope your feeling better buddy.

Thanks HMG - :)

I appreciate that, and am feeling a little better the last couple of days. Hope you are doing okay as well my friend. I've had a number of injections like yours lately too, and they aren't much fun. I feel like I've been poked and prodded enough for a lifetime... I'm sure you feel the same. Take care and thanks for the well wishes! X

Hi OMM!

In all honesty I used to use a small digital hygrometer similar to those in the jars (Caliber III by Western Digital) to get it to that correct humidity point, but now I've just been doing it by gut instinct and feel mostly. Basically, just being slow and methodical, until they seem right - being careful not to go too far. Then once I feel like they're really close and stabilized (needing no more burping) I put 2-3 of the smaller humidipaks in the jar to keep it dialed in at the 62%. Not too scientific, but it's been working well!

One thing I've noticed, at least with the smaller humidipak packets, is that it sometimes takes multiple packets in a quart-sized widemouth jar, for example (depending on how full the jar is, etc.). One packet in a quart sized mason jar is not enough typically to keep it sufficiently stable. 2 may do it, when they aren't very full, but 3 seems about perfect. I'm only using the 2" square ones though, and the bigger ones might be the ticket vs. multiple smaller ones...

Having said that, part of doing it this way was those Caliber III's are really nice, and surprisingly accurate little hygrometers, but not cheap enough to buy a bunch. The ones you are referencing are a very good price! I may just improve my methodology and buy some of those as you suggest!

Great tip OMM!! :thankyou: (Oh, and +reps for that idea!!)

I'm feeling a bit better today, but still a little rough. Things had been going a bit better with the pain lately, so this set-back has been frustrating. Hopefully, things get back on track again soon. Thanks again for your concern, truly. :)

Gentle Fluffy hugs my darling. I'm sitting in the same leaky boat with you at the moment, so let's bail out in our yellow rain macs together.

Thanks for making me smile, Fluffy!

If I achieve that then that makes my day worthwhile. All I want to see is good people smiling

Ooh! And thank you Sir OMM too!! :thumb:

Bassman, you did a great job on that thread, and it will help a lot of people who are unsure as to the process and whether they should give it a shot. Thanks for pulling that together and sharing it with everyone! :bravo:

Thanks X. I'm just glad it came out ok. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to put it together well.

Now back to page 8 to catch up!

Sending out a bat signal... would love some input!

This is my first grow where I've done super-cropping in flower. I have now super-cropped several tops as a further aid in canopy management at about 22 days into flower. I just did it, no looking back.

In the past I've tried to stick more to LST and defoliation this far into flower and later, and kept super-cropping to veg phase only - so I'm unsure what to expect. I'm looking for real-world experience on this one. I feel like there is a ton of misinformation based on theory out there, making true understanding of the topic somewhat muddled... (IE "Don't do it, you'll hermie your plant!")

As far as how my plants have reacted so far, the tops are already reaching back up to the light, but haven't been knuckling up yet (only been a couple of days).

Here are my primary questions:

  • Will this impact bloom production in a positive manner like I would expect if done in veg?
  • Will it slow down or speed up flower production?
  • Any thoughts on whether this triggers accelerated trichome production (stress can do that)?
  • Is there a difference between how a sativa reacts vs. an indica to supercropping in bloom?
  • Does this delay the plants flowering cycle at all?
  • If this is an effective strategy in bloom, is there a period where it becomes "too late" to do? If so, when is that?

Here's what I expect - maybe someone can confirm/deny any of this:

  • Increased growth in second tier colas, taking up the cause after trauma to tallest colas and helping to even the canopy (my primary goal)
  • Better bud development further down the stem on supercropped branches now that they run parallel to the lights
  • Slowing of bud development for a few days where supercropped, then accelerated development that catches it up later due to the rebuilt, improved healing of the bend

Would love some feedback. I would prefer that it's not based on conjecture or heresay/re-hashing someone elses theory.

Thanks in advance for the input, and +rep to anyone who can really add to better understanding here regarding bloom phase super-cropping. :)

I was wondering what that light was shining on the clouds in last weeks rain.

to keep it simple, my defoliation guru told me it's fine to bend them at any point in the grow as long as they are healthy and stout. As you can see, or will see, the secondary branches will shoot up and grow more bountiful bud. The cropped will do just great still as they are getting awesome light too. I don't believe it lengthens nor shortens flower period more than a day or two at most.

i take it all them products are out to buy now or are they still in testing stage, its going to work out expensive for me with shipping as well,
can all these products be used for both soil and hydro like the 3 part plus bloom booster, so now their is an extra 4 products, id like to use them all if its going to make a huge difference, ill be following along this journal to see how it goes, the problems is delivery costs more than the goods to where i am, but i will be placing an order for the 3part n bloom booster around xmas, so if this other adds benefits then ill be ordering them as well,
fingers crossed its going to be as good as i think it is,

Just as reference, if you were to buy 1gal of AN sensi bloom A&B, it's about $80 online. BPN 2-part is $35.00. I just ordered seaweed, VitaBlue, and Part B and a qt of ph UP from BPN. Can't wait to add the vitablue and seaweed.

Last week I bought out all they had. Anyone need a really cool Digital LCD Temp/Humidity display? I got em fer $8 each PLUS SHIPPING!

GRRR8888T photos X... I can't wait. Yours are at 27 days, mine are at 8. I look at yours and know I've got similar coming. :yahoo:

About the injections you've had...

I don't want to bring up bad vibes, but have you been paying attention to the news? About the fungal meningitis? Now they are saying that same company produced other drugs...one given during heart surgery, and another for pain injections.

Anyone who gets injections for pain may want to check into this a little...for you own health reasons.

Love the pics...keep 'em coming

Hey Xlr8 the gals are looking fandiggitytastic!! You are very good at what you do, in many ways. Thanks for all your help in my thread and am sorry you are not doing well. I have been really down past couple days, pain wise, due to the beginning of the rainy season here....nother bummer to that I had a perfect 23% RH now I cant get it down past 56% and I have two dehus, at least the room a/c versions with dehus on them. You have any good advice? I am on a budget and the only ones I have seen around $100, my budget, do not seem like they would fit the bill.

:peace:

This jives perfectly with what I'm now seeing/experiencing... Thanks Bassman! I was really hoping you'd weigh in at some point, as I knew you'd been doing some of this. + rep if I can. :)
