Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

You're very welcome. Thanks for all you do here :)

That's the only thing I would do differently. I don't want the standing water at the bottom of the totes. I know that extra water is a buffer, but I'm pretty conscientious (OK OK compulsive!) about checking my plants a lot, so I like to think I would notice a problem before that buffer was necessary.

actually not standing water tho cause he has an airstone so its circulating

Still finding time to help others AND grow some of the best herb this site has ever seen huh?? Hats off to you Brother X:bravo:

I know I've been on hiatus for 6 months, but should be making my way back soon, just so ya know. Been in North Dakota for a while for work-Long story for another day. Much love and respect to you old friend, miss you and the rest of the family. Tell Old Med Man I send my regards please!:Namaste:

You just told me my friend Quixilvir. Will be looking to hear the story of why you were out in the bad lands. Great to see you are OK! :thumb:

If you do your part and keep everything hush and dont tell your buddies anywhere is about like that this is the 3 rd state ive grown in none are mmj states and thats the reason I never enter competitions. Ive never grown for profit or to get "rich" bi t to bring myself closer to the earth and and plant itself.

Fishy you make it sound horrible, maybe on the indian res. kinda reminds me of how people talk about arkansas and everyone there being backwood hick trailer park trash , and then I say I was born and raised there and it wasnt chicago but far from the boonies and X the plants are lookin stupendous as always :adore:

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

I second that, X knows his stuff.

Thank you for that, Wildbill - still learning daily with a lot yet to learn, but I do my best. :thankyou:

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

As X already mentioned, he doesn't do dwc. But I do RDWC and may just include it with my hi-defoliation on my next kosher kush grow. I just popped the seeds so they wont even be ready for dwc for a bit yet. Which reminds me I should probably git off my ass and clean out the 2nd room and set up the tent to do so.

Cool Bassman -

I will be anxious to get your take on it, as I plan on trying this as well. It's one of those things that just makes some sense to me.

wow x the ladies look fantastic! i wish i had your gift with hydro, but its just not my thing you can see in my forthcoming update im harvesting today 6 plants and one is my attempt at hydro (yuck), that nw topping method looks very intriguing indeed im compelled to try it s always your stuff is top notch!! u da man!:bravo::high-five::thumb:

Hi BID -

Well, that's how I feel about soil, lol. It's foreign to me! I agree, that topping method looks like a useful strategy indoors. Thanks for the props, BID! :thankyou:

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

Bravo X,
Thank you for the tour through your DIY hydro vegger.
I enjoyed it very much indeed.
:high-five:

Thanks Vick,

It took some trial or error to get it the way I wanted it, but it's worked pretty much flawlessly since it's completion. You learn a lot with a project like that, too. Appreciate the feedback! :)

Hi Hiker -

As Chronic mentioned (thanks Chronic!), there's an airstone but you probably saw that. I'm sure it'd work without the water or the stones, but I realized that the nature of the totes and how I needed to work around my space issues, meant that there would always be a little water in the bottom of each one. That'd be fine even without airstones, but I decided to work with the "limitation" by consciously keeping something closer to a mini reservoir in each one, and an airstone, between flood events.

I would have needed them to drain from the bottom to fully drain them, and this would have taken more vertical space (now occupied by the Flo N Gro reservoirs).

Another side benefit, is that the plants will survive longer in the event of a power outage or pump failure - a buffer of sorts as you mention. It is a nice fall-back, in addition to the way it really quickly grows the plants.

Finally, the water is fully recirculated back to the reservoir every time there is a flood, so it's never old or stagnant aside from the time it spends between floods.

Having said all that, it'd work fine without the airstones and the mini-reservoirs in each container, too. But, there would be less room for error (no buffer) as you mentioned.

I think we're all a little compulsive about checking our plants! :)

Haven't spent enough time in ND to really have an opinion on it... Actually, I'm pretty sure I've never been there if I'm being honest! I'm sure like everywhere, there's pros and cons a plenty. I've been a lot of places in this country that surprised me as being either much better or much worse than my perception...
Thanks for the kind words on the plants, Mrgivemethat! :thanks:

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

Xlr8 do you think you could do a faq
about main-lining? When you try it for yourself.
I would love to see it done in dwc i always seen it in soil.

Hi x, wildbill and everybody interested in mainlining. I've been following this journal and I wanted to chime in here to share my experience w/it so far. I switched to led my last grow and found a lot more larf in the lower sites. This grow I mainlined to eight mains each and I'm in a fence post lp aero style setup - so though not dwc, I think it can work in pretty much any setup. One thing to keep in mind is that it does add at least a couple weeks to your veg time. Here's a couple of shots of a veneno, just finished week one of 12/12. (First time trying to add photos - yikes)

Hey Flashman!

Thanks for chiming in with your experience. Great feedback! Thought I'd repost the photos so they didn't need clicking, hope you don't mind - nice job btw!:

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

Hi x!

Well, I was just surfing yesterday night and I came up with a journal with a guy that has put a aquarium filter in his res!!!
The filter is the tetra whisper power filter and this guy swears, it cleans the solution sooooo well you can actually drink from that .... lol
Internal Aquarium Filter | Tetra Whisper: No Hassle No Noise

There was a little debate about the carbon it uses , some ppl say it does hamn the plants, when the same person insists that carbon gets deactivated inside the solution after a while and it DIDN'T hamn the plants at all, he also swears that he sees better overall growth and his (both) res's are clean like crystal !

This filter comes for 20,30,40 gallons aquariums tanks !

I'm sure this sounds good but it definitaly needs better investigation and I know you are good on this !!!

What do you think , doesn't sound bad idea to me ....

just out of curiosity
its a filter
wont it filter out the nutes also?
i guess it might primarily depends on the type of nutes you use
organic nutes even for hydro has some particles in it and can be filtered out
also wont the carbon eventually filter out any fertilizer? if it cleans it so good he can drink it?
just curious.....................

I really have no idea on this one Billy/Chronic... It might do something, just not sure if it'd be good or bad. I don't have any issues that necessitate it, so it's probably not for me. I think if you are using the right products, and have the right environmental conditions and reservoir temps, this shouldn't be necessary as it's just one more complicating factor. Sorry I can't give you any more insight - not something I've tried. Interesting, though!

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

Yeah carbon will scrub the nutes too i would imagine, thats prob why his res is crystal clear! :) But then maybe it does work......

I wouldnt want to filter my res as i control everything that i put in, having said that it prob would work for people with algae issues.
