Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

Awesome Tokeman, So glad to have you here. Honestly, the Flo N Gro is great - every bit perfect for my needs, and a very easy to manage system (aside from all the hydroton to clean between grows!:smokin2:).

It's been nice having Alaskan1 around, as I've picked up some great ideas/tips from him now too. I think together we've helped each-other... xlr8 our learning curve a bit (so to speak). Will sure be nice having another Flo N Gro'r around. :thumb:

Please let me know if I can ever answer any questions about it, or offer advice in any way. :)

Hey x,
Eventually since your previous journal , I told you I ordered the flo n gro, I got the control bucket 3 days ago !!
The 2 expansion kits came much earlier and I didnt have to pay to the custom, for those ...
The problem is some idiot seriously kicked the box (it has a hole anyway) !! Thoses very little tiny-winy holes , which hold the 1-2 kg (lol) timer , broke :(
Now I have to either hold the timer to the bucket somehow (glue it?) or put it above something ....
I m thinking to mail 'em but it will take ages for the replacement !! I still dunno what to do !!

Also I wanna ask you something else as well , I you don't mind x:
I'm about to order also very soon from usplastic, these buckets mrsmith uses for the veg system!
There are two kinds , 1 gal and 2 ! Shall i go with 2 ? Seems better option to me but I just wanna make sure...
I'm also thinking the ebb n flo option , just to get rid of the too many airstones !!
But does the bucket fit on flo n gro's , pot ? Lol
Needs thinking , I want your opinion on this .... :hmmmm:

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

wow really liking the look of that vortex bro looks like it would be perfect for a scrog:)

Vortex looks like a satellite photo of a killer hurricane. dun, di dun, dun

vortex and jilly are making me shiver they look so fawsome!!! (fukkin awesome) i want yes yes i want:thumb: they all look about 100% perfect

Thanks guys! Vortex is supposed to be amazing stuff, and is the one strain Subcool says he most recommends people try when they ask about his best strains. But, I must confess I find these viny growers to be a pain in the butt, as it ends up so hard to trim them and work with them. You can never get your hands in there, ya know? They are usually less stretchy though, I've found, so hopefully height won't be an issue. The real looker in person is probably the Jillybean, because she is so uniform and has 6 pretty tops with nice stout branches. I actually topped a level higher than I intended, but I like (her?) 6 tops all nice and even-like.

BID, I agree, I'm really blessed that they are really thriving at the moment. The system/nute/environment combo I'm giving them right now is sure making it easy for me at the moment as I'm really not having to do much but follow the plan and keep things plugged in, lol.

I've finally figured out how to get a bit better color on my veg pictures, and I think they look less yellow (the fix won't work under HPS though). It's nice to finally capture the color a bit better, as they're really healthy looking at the moment.

Thanks again for the kind words! :thankyou:

Hi Billy -

Shoot! I don't know what to tell you on the control bucket... It seems mine broke a little too, but it's not completely disconnected. I recall having to be more careful with it as it's not as secure anymore. I will see if I can look at mine closer next time I check in on the plants, but I don't know what to recommend. If you could find a reliable way to attach it yourself, it could be a blessing as having the timer "permanently" attached is sometimes a pain when you clean it between grows. What about velcro? Not sure if it would hold sufficiently. I'll keep thinking... You'll have to make the call on whether you want to wait by sending it back, but I know what a pain that can be. Sorry this happened to you -- bummer!

For a veg system: I'd say the size of buckets often depends on whether you have size constraints. If you don't have size constraints, the larger bucket is probably a nice way to go. The Flo N Gro has 4 gallon buckets with 3 gallon net-pots, so I don't think there will be cross-compatibility between them.

I like Ebb n Flo/Ebb n Gro flood style growing a lot. As far as airstones, my DIY hydro system for my small vegging plants does floods, but I also keep a small reservoir in the bottom of the containers with air-stones. So it's kind of a flood/dwc hybrid I guess. It sure works well, I know that (too well sometimes, they grow a bit fast for mom style plants).

Hope I addressed your questions okay, but let me know if I missed anything. :goodluck:

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

Wow buddy - just beautiful....I am sstoked to get to watch the progress, especially knowing I hae a similar set up hehe!!

So I was reading you change your res once a week. I was planning on going with once every 2 weeks. Have you always changed once per week or were you having problems going longer than a week? Just want to avoid any problems - things seem fine so far but I am just starting. Thanks for all your help!

First of all - thank you!! :)

I've let it go longer, and you may have just fine results every other week. I like to change the formulation a bit as I see the plants react, and I like to keep it fresh, so I go with weekly. Also, the plants consume various nutrients ad water from the mix, and by the end of a week, it can be quite different than where you started, ya know? Larger reservoirs can probably go longer between changes as a way to address that element of it. Often, after about 10 days I see much more sediment and a little less desirable odor. 7 days is more expensive though, than 14. If you go 14, please let me know your thoughts for my own reference, too.

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

I like Water-to-Waste in coir because the plants are always feeding on fresh. The waste part is not so very wasteful, no big res changes ;)
I'd adore a system with computer control/monitoring that uses fertilizer injection. Control the whole sealed-room grow from Acapulco! Yeah CO2, temps, humidity and the whole 9 yards.
The harvest and replacing plants for next is the part I can't figure around :smokin2:

Anybody remember Maynard G Krebs? "Work!" did you say?

Ahhhh, yes, the "dream". I have that dream too - mine involves full monitoring and control from my handheld device (ie iPad) including live video streaming. The whole 9 yards with dosers and co2, RH, like you mention.

If you figure out how to do the harvest part, cleaning and resetting, let me know and I'll help you with the patent application and any associated testing. ;)

Maynard rules. I miss that show! I wish it was still on re-runs somewhere...

Hmmm yeah, this velcron tape seems great idea to me !!!! If you find some really strong Velcro, I think it will be fine to keep the timer in its possisition without a problem !!! This things can hold kilos .. !!! ( I didn't know it's called "Velcro"...lol)
I ll see what I can I find in stores ....
I cross my fingers, the timer(inside) not damaged from the kick ! It looks very well constructed to me .

My veg space x, will be a 4x4 tent , so I think I ll be ok with 2 gallon buckets considering I ll need 9 pots for veg , plus 2(for the start at least), mums !!! I ll go with 2 gallons and we ll see ...

Thank you very much, x !

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

Update December 17th

The Vortex is living up to it's reputation as a bushy/viny growing plant. So far it's behaving much like the Jack the Ripper I had from Subcool - very viny/branchy with tight nodes. Really a nightmare to figure out how to manage this one, I can tell already. I've been defoliating/plucking more on the quicker growers, and it's really creating a lot of new potential bud-sites the way it's making the plant behave. I've not done as much plucking in veg before, so it'll be interesting to see what this means once they transition to flower. Overall, I'm thrilled with how happy the plants seem to be, and how well things are going so far.

I used to use this velcro I picked up at home depot it was so strong it ripped the panda film I was using for the walls and door.I think something like that would be perfect Billy.Im sure any hardware store would carry something like it.its alot thicker than regular velcro:)

Cool - velcro (hook and loop tape) is still the best idea I've been able to think of... I agree with Jon, the really strong stuff is out there, and it would be the way to go. I've used the stronger stuff too - it's amazing, frankly! The timers do seem well constructed. Titan's timers are very good typically from what I can discern.

Are you going to do a journal here, Billy? Would love to see how it all turns out if you do! :thumb:

Thanks Jandre! Very cool of you brother, and I appreciate it a ton. :thankyou:

Hey I was really sorry to hear about your migraines getting bad again recently - you doing okay now? Hope so Jandre, I hate thinking of other people laid up with pain. I've had some pretty rough days lately, too, and possibly some new damage/problems to contend with - it's been rough for me this past week. Sure hope you are feeling better! :goodluck:

Oh no, Hope you're doing ok X!
sending you and Jandre pain free vibes.
