Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

X... umm... DAYUMM!!

I think that chocolope is done, man... I know it's a 10 weeker(I think), but... yeah...

Those pics look so frikkin tasty, I want to print them out and eat them as a midnight snack!

Well done, my friend. Well done, indeed!

P.S. Sorry it took so long to get back to you on the pics... AT&T and I weren't getting along.

AT&T = rotten bastards

:thankyou: J!

It's all good - I'm super busy with family stuff that's leaving me worn out when I'm not... So it's been tough for me to be on lately. Hope you got things worked out with AT&T and you are friends with them again... ;)

Well, I got a nice surprise after 3 days of the silent treatment... My DSL came back on and synced, so all is merry with their peace offering. :cheesygrinsmiley:

ayep! :high-five:

Very impressive pictures! THey are so frosty it makes me cold. 95F here today so a little cold is good.

I have been trying to catch up but this journal is a fast mover. Finally gave up and just went to the last 5 pages and read those. I consider myself caught up.

There is something about Super Lemon Haze... It is my "go to" medicine for everything that needs medicated :) The taste, the resiny texture, the smell (oh gawd the smell). To me nothing else compares. I let one of mine go a week longer than the other. 11 and 12 weeks. THe longer is better. The best thing is it can put you to sleep if you let it, but also is a great buzz for getting work done. I haven't found a strain that could do both like that.

Hey everyone -

Been busy and very over-tired last couple of days, but will try to get caught up as soon as I can (and feel a bit peppier). Thanks for all the kind words - you guys rock!.

:) :)

Hey XL, I hope you're OK.
And of course I have a question :)
Is it OK to defoliate down to just the buds and leaves surrounding them, and cut off all the regular leaves, or is that way too much defoliating?

Kindest regards

My system is low matenence and coordinates with my ebb ngrow. Your system is completely different bro. Its a hybrid and maybe a 150gph on the pump or lower. I use a old powerhead left behind from when my hobby was fish instead of plants. Good luck on the diy. I'm a big diy fan myself. Ain't nothing like trying to improve the mousetrap lol.
Check out this pic of a undercurrent system. Its a big setup lol. That's 4 inch pipe.

Mr Smith, nice job. Where did you get the buckets? I wanted to go square buckets using some pvc threaded fittings (2") and some special made washers to seal, but I couldnt find the buckets except the ones from CCH20 at some crazy price like $35-$40 a piece for a $5 bucket. So I went with standard round and uniseals. The idea I had was going to easily allow me to change configuration as needed with threaded fittings, whereas uniseals are a total pain in the ass to take apart a system.

Not to answer for Mr Smith, but those are kitty-litter buckets. I've been saving them for a while to do a project like this too, but kinda fell in love with the Flo N Gro in the meantime. Alternatively, you can order them. I believe they are "Linpac Ropak" square containers if you want to google them. Or here's a couple of links:

4 Gallon Square Bucket | U.S. Plastic Corp.

3.5 gal or 13.2 lit square diamond weave container with built-in handgrips (item code S35G) - LINPAC

They sell lids for them, too. The kitty litter style are nice because they have cool hinged lids. I believe Mr Smith painted them black to help with light-proofing. Hope that helps!

You have a nice Undercurrent style system too, Bassman. :thumb:

There are many opinions on that one. I like to defoliate the majority of the larger fan leaves at around 21 and 45 days bloom (they grow back, hence the 45 day second round). I do leave on any that aren't in the way or blocking something. Fan leaves can absorb a lot of punishment on behalf of the plant, so it's good to keep some. However, they can sure get in the way indoors, hence pulling the majority of them (any that are blocking budsites). That's my opinion/take. :)

I can't wait!! The samples have been great. That's interesting info on the SLH - thank you! Yes, the smell is amazing, and the flavor is going to be too, I can tell. Heck it's great even with a quick dry.

They have gotten so much frostier even since the last pics. :yummy:

Hey Brother! Your plants look beautiful!
Unfortunately, I had already used up the +REPS on your DIY flood & drain, so I could only "Like" that post! :welldone:

:thankyou: Mr Krip. So good to see you around. I appreciate the reps brotha!

:yahoo:

The last pic, the rdwc unit is not mine but a friend of mine. Those buckets are 10 gal buckets. I don't know where he got them. The dude pulled 30 pnds. Too long of a veg but still good numbers for his first time. He's the owner of a caregiver facility and runs 15 1000w lights. I posted the pic because that's how I got to know Xlr8. Running a diy undercurrent system. Awesome system but can be very unforgetting when a problem arises. Clogging is always a issue.

I added a riser to the lower drain on this (not in the pic), so that it keeps enough water/nutes for air diffusers between floods. The riser puts them about an inch below the netcups during DWC use, and the floods will fill up to the top of the "netting" on the netpots.

I was gonna say, be careful of the riser in the bottom, because it seemed to me when the bucket never fully drains, I had more "issues" with Murphy and his Laws, but I think you went a different direction by putting the inlet/outlet on the sides... new pics?

That chocolope makes me want some. Hmmm more seeds already?

Mr Smith -

Hey bro! I've been swamped at home with personal stuff and just not feeling too perky lately. I'm hoping to get around here more soon. I didn't realize those were 10 gallon buckets!! They look identical to the 5.3 gal kitty litter buckets I've been saving up, but I also forgot you said that was 3" pvc pipe! I assumed it was something you built too, but regardless that's a pretty sweet looking DIY undercurrent.

Yup! I remember I meeting you when you were starting your DIY undercurrent 'cuz I'd been itching to build one, too. I had also been taking notes and had learned a lot from some of your posts on the Ebb N Gro, so I was happy to get to know you. I knew you really had a good understanding of Ebb style growing, too, and I had always done DWC until then -- I could see you understood how different it was in certain aspects. I still have my pile of kitty litter buckets, but my health issues have made me really appreciate the Flo N Gro (Ebb n Gro style) growing. Such a (relatively) easy way to grow, which helps me a lot lately.

Sure great seeing you around again my friend. :thumb:

Heya :surf:!

I've been MIA lately, sorry.

Good points on the riser and draining!

Pictures. I really dropped the ball on pictures lately. I hope I have a few on the camera - but I recently harvested and only got one or two at best during harvest. If nothing else I'm going to get some good nug pics (now that I've got them in jars!)

I'll work on some nug pics soon as I can, and will post my thoughts on how this last batch turned out... In short, I love the Super Lemon Haze, the Chocolope is everything I've hoped it would be (just like the last one I grew quality wise!!) and the Deadhead was great like last time. I'll put up some more deets when I get more time.

Sorry for the delayed response - have a great weekend!!

Ebb & Flow is AWESOME... super easy in my case. no net pots, no single buckets, just one flood bin and hydrotone to hold everyone still.

Thanks for this journal and all the others. I'm almost finished reading it start to finish and wow. Thers a lot of info in here. It's answered questions I didn't even know I had. Your a great resource and friend to the community!
