looking good mate, not been on for a couple of days been having few problems, but back now, nice pics, by the looks of the pics your getting very close to harvest, possibly really close, sounds like it mate, looks like your gona have some very nice smoke when its dried and cured,

how long do you dry yours on average for, and how do you cure it, i know with soil grows you can stop watering a week before to speed up the drying process, is their much you can do with your grow to help with drying or not

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I look at trich colors - for me about 25% amber, mostly milky is my goal. However, some plants just don't follow the color plan with the trichs, so this shouldn't be a "be all end all" in my opinion. Even Cervantes is conceding this now. So... I also look for the size and swelling of the pistils as well as how many are dead/dying - and are they receding into the false seedpod? When the calyx is swollen, and the pistil recedes into the false seedpod, that is a big sign of final ripeness.

Also, where am I in relation to the target date from the breeder, and what other people have noticed when growing the strain? There is a lot of data out there on some strains.

After a few grows, you can really tell a lot just by looking at the calyx's and the way the buds are swollen, but that takes some experience to get down. Finally, when they are close like this, I take samples - sometimes daily, to see if I like the effect. Smell/taste, can't be determined without a proper dry and cure, but the effect of the high can, to a large extent. I expect the Deadhead to be ready in a week or so, not quite sure on the others, yet, as the signs aren't as clear with them yet.

That is some great information. It is true about the trichs and the swelling. It is always difficult for me to tell sometimes when the perfect harvest time is. :thumb:

I like the level of control with hydroponics, but I'm enamored by the quality of some of the soil grows I see. I definitely would like to try soil eventually. :)

To answer your question, not really. I didn't know people did that with soil grows even... is that correct? I chop mine after a period of dark time, and then trim them up while on the branches and hang them. After a couple/few days (depends on humidity) I will put them in jars to pull the moisture back to the surface of the bud more, and then take them out for a period of time each day in paper bags. How long depends on how moist they still are. Finally, when they are dry enough, I keep them in jars, but "burp" these jars daily for about a month. I like them to dry slowly as the flavors are better, but you must be careful with mold...

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Thanks Quix -

This Jack the Ripper pheno is said to "bulk up late" or something like that, and I can see what they mean. It's really, finally, adding weight these last few days, but a lot of it seems more like what I consider foxtailing normally. An explosion of new pistils over the past week, it's weird. I'm not surprised though, as I've seen this in pics of JTR quite a bit (foxtail look). Part of it is the Sativa influences I think. Any of that on your Jilly Bean? Maybe they share genetics down the road somewhere, like a common Cindy99 in the lineage or something...

Family's great, but in doses! ;)

Yep, Jilly's got the same exact look...A bit fox-tail-ish, lol....My Jills did seem to put out a good deal of really thin sativa looking leaves right before she went into full flower mode....Hmmmm....Space Queen seems to be close to the top of Jill's geneology, and is a pretty hefty influence in the JTR....

OK just looked, and they're both 50% Space Queen...So any one of the parents in the SQ could be doing it....Who knows?
Either way, I'd like to learn how to grow her properly....She's SO dang good! I feel like I could have done her better...Always next time I suppose.:thumb:

Me too, I'm even less sure this time - more sativa influences than I'm used too. Can't wait though! :)

Hey Mate! A week is a long time......maybe 24 to 36 hours stop giving them water. A week would probably kill them......be careful. :high-five:

Month or so I'll be coming up on my first harvest.............and firsy dry/cure. Also will be my first time at harvesting......will be interesting to see how and when to pull them. I'm sure they won't all get pulled at the same time. I may need your help with this!:circle-of-love:

Hi A1 :high-five:

Easiest thing to do is go to Radio Shack and get one of their $14.95 Microscopes. Then you could look at the tricks and see if they are ready yet.
Holler at me if you need advise. Sorry for butting in X. :smokin2:
