Sorry to all who have left comments in the last month. I haven't really felt like being on the computer much. I learn a lot here, but the more I try to become a part of the community, the more I seem to argue with people, and I'm really not here for that. It put me off the whole scene for a while, but I have important info to add for my journal. I'm not taking or giving any blame, just stating the reason for my feelings. Sometimes 2 very nice people can be at very opposite ends of an argument - there's not always a villain. And it's not from one particular incident, but a culmination of small things. Anyways, I'm not upset or anything, just a little background on my abandonment.
I've harvested 16 plants and have 19 coming out in a few days. I went at least a week or two over, as evidenced by the late-bloom bananas all over the place. I was waiting for the trichs to be almost all amber to start flushing, rather than timing the flush to end at amber. curing is making an incredible difference in the taste and effect. I tried microwaving @ 40% for 45 sec at a time to test, but was very scared by the result(Is my crop crap?), but after letting it hang dry for 4 days(that's when my branches snapped) and jarring/burping for a week, my faith has been restored. Grass smell is gone, and the weed smell I've been waiting for is a little stronger than when on the plant. I can now feel a decent effect from smoking. I still have at least one week of cure to go, so I'm confident things will get even better. Right now it's on the level of the stuff around here that many sell as quality, but is really "mid-grade". I hope more moisture is drawn from the middle, as It's still damp in the grinder, yet brittle to the touch.
The long awaited numbers:
From those 16 top-performers, 2 were completely lost due to carelessness (holes not punched in hempy's, then died in end of flower when I noticed and bored holes. They instantly showed over-watering signs and turned brown, but I let them keep growing rather that toss them, as there were only a couple weeks of flower left), and 2 had their top colas burned by being allowed to stretch into the light(which gave a reaction quite similar to the drying/browning of the over-watered plants). So I'm left with 12 whole plants and 2 without the top colas. I got 120grams dried from those. I'm happy with anything over .25oz per plant for my first run. I have learned A LOT to make the next run that much better. I hope to get close to the same weight from the remaining 19, but they were the under-performers. I put a few of the plants from flower back into veg, and it's pretty amazing watching the bright green growth come twisting, busting out from between the buds. I now have 16 plants in veg. 2 of those are the new moms from seed (Pineapple Express and Purple Haze). The 3rd seedling is now in the flower tent, as the auto-AK was throwing pistils everywhere. Most of the remaining veg plants are still a ways away from giving clones, but I only plan on cloning out 2-4 of them anyways. It was more a test of possibility and health. I see no bananas on anything in the veg tent, and pistils on everything.
I have upgraded to a 3x3 drain table lifted by 2 sets of milk crates. I drilled a hole, and it drains into a bucket that I can dump every 2 weeks or so.
Needless to say, I am pretty psyched that on my first attempt, I have produced what I expect to finish as some very nice bud that would have cost me about $60 every 3.5g. That means that from less than half of a full tray of plants(14 out of over 40 that can fit) on my first run, the 120g I grew saved me about $2000 that I would've spent on weed, and I still have plants to chop next week, and I can continue running the system on the ~$1200 I put into everything. I put a rough estimate of about $300 per cycle of plants to cover electricity, nutes, water, soil, and wear/tear on lights/filters, etc. Not to mention, I now have an active role in supplying my own needs, rather than rely on some jerk who thinks he's Tony Montana to overcharge me, make me wait, and change quality/run out whenever. I think the risk of getting caught is pretty damn comparable to what you would have with meeting a dealer once a week to supply your needs, so that's a moot point. I think this is already well worth the investment for me, and I can only imagine things improving with time and experience.

Drain makes it easier to clean, just dump the bucket. Height saves my back

The 3 plants on the right have been mistreated, see the brown?
