Woodsman's Northern Light #5 Grow

Yes, you could chop 3/4 of the pic out and have a 1 meg pic left. But that would be pretty hit and miss. For the most part when I'm cropping is really just to eliminate parts of the pic I don't want to see. Then when I export the pic I just tell iPhoto to give me a pic no larger than 800x600 pixels. These Macs are pretty easy to use, there aren't too many steps involved. But it keeps me from helping you guys very much since I don't deal with the same software.

One bonus of cropping is that it works like a digital zoom, you can get really close in on your buds. One trick to taking the photo is to use the macro setting and set turn the flash on so it shoots on every pic you take. You can get really close to the plant and the flash really makes those trichs shine!

But check out the mods sigs for a link to the photo resizing thread they have on the site here. I believe they have a link to free re-sizing software you can download. It seems to me some of the other Deep Water Culture are using it and it works pretty good for them.

If I can be of any more help just give me a holler!

Thank you my friend for helping out a brother in need! There's so much out there that sometimes I don't know where to turn! I think I can manage now thanks to the help you and others are giving me!

Don't worry too much about the pictures Woodsman
Cropping and size reduction will get easier as you do em over and over.:grinjoint:
Just like using the camera. Truthfully I think it's a pain in the ass, but 420 only has so much storage room.

Good for you sharing the camera with the wife. That should get you a day or two of peace.:smokin2:

Seriously man. Take it easy and do all the good stuff to get rid of that flu/cold you have. Take a day or two off. We can wait. Health First!

Ok now I swear I came by and wished you a Happy 420 (I feel like a stoner...wait :rasta:) .....so here it is HAPPY 420 brother, congrats on the camera too :cheertwo:.
Would you and the missus get well already....:rasta:

:peace: my friend.

Super, m'Lady Lavendar, OMM and Mountain and the rest of you, hope you had a wonderful 420 day and continue to have also!

Yup we're still sick, but I gotta get to the spring to get water to flush/fert. Yesterday I had to emergency water all three as they were starting to go limp (heat) and only had a little water in the house. I had a gallon for the three of them. They are all doing fine. Fatleaf refuses to get amber and is still partially clear / cloudy and the same with Big Girl. The Runt is literally packed full of tricks on her calyxes, I think more so than either of the other two although they also are heavily triched out on their calyxes.

Now I realize that I'm most likely not resizing correctly so I ask those of you that have photos with higher pixels. how do you get those perfect shots showing the trichomes on the buds so clearly. When I uploaded these photos to My Pictures on my laptop, they were over 4.00 MB and looked 'amazing', but I had to resize them to below 1 MB for this site. They look good but I'm sure I'm missing something and can make them better. Suggestions? I've got the free Picasa 3 that I downloaded and use now.

Congrats on MotM Woodsman...well deserved!
Here's a tip I picked up from Slappy (and I think I've seen it here on a forum somewhere as well) to help get the most out of your pictures here at 420magazine.com.

After you upload the pictures and you are in your gallery click on the picture. That brings your picture on the screen and below are the links that are used to put in your post....now here's where it gets different. Right click on the picture itself and select "properties" (I think that's what it will say on a PC. I use a Mac..if you use a Mac as well then you want to select "view image info"). On the screen that pops up you will see all sorts of information. You want to copy the URL that is labeled "Location". Use that in your post and you will get a LARGE size version of your picture. That often helps show much more detail.

If you already know this then forgive my on & on. Otherwise I hope it helps.

BTW those are some gorgeous buds!

Hope ya had a great 4/20 Woodsman and check out my new thread below sometime :goodjob: :nicethread:

I prefer to crop down my images too, and if you wanna preview what they will look like just zoom in as far as you want/can and scroll around the image for the best area to crop.

you'll get the hang of it! ;)

Or stick to paint if it works for ya lol.

It still works for me and you don't have to learn anything new. Cut out the part you want, paste into new paint file, then stretch n skew to size as before. I still don't have fancy software that does this particular need better, unless you wanted to blow up the photo to 20 foot tall or something which is where the better tools and software coem into their own.

Nice bud pic, Woodsman. More pics please.

When you gonna start picking this stuff? 8 weeks is good for my Northern lights#5. I let some go to 9 weeks for some real couchlock stuff. After 9 weeks is past it's prime.

What colors are your tich's? You can never really go by the weeks to know when the plants are prime. I've had northern lites go into the 10th week before. I've also had some pure sativa's go 16 weeks and still could've used another week, but they were getting alittle unruly. Congrads on the grow dude. Tried to get ya another star but I don't think ya can get ,more than a 5 star journal......

Hey Skooter, Thanks for the tips bud! I'm not sure if that's what I've been doing or not? Get's a little confusing!LOL

Hope ya had a great 4/20 Woodsman and check out my new thread below sometime :goodjob: :nicethread:

Thanks Caf. nice to see ya back! Very interesting thread on making your own fem seeds! A good read for all. Reps to you bro!

WOODS YOUR GETTING MIGHTY PROFESSIONAL WITH THE CAMERA,LOOKIG GREAT BROTHER:cheertwo:

Your lying Bro! LOL But flattery will get you everywhere though! Thanks my friend.

Thanks Jas I appreciate all the great advise you all have for me!

I think what I'll do is try a few different approaches that you all have suggested and see what's better and easiest for me, I am familiar with paint and had never thought to use it for this until you mentioned it Lion! I'll try anything if it's good and works!

Nice bud pic, Woodsman. More pics please.

Well I think the time depends on the individual grow environment. I've got relatively low wattage compared to what the breeders use. And I'm sure they grow in the best possible conditions which I am not doing! I'm with no amber yet (one or two here and there) 50/50 clear cloudy still. I'm at 8.5 weeks

Hey Wood! I'm at only 50/50 or maybe 40/60 clear/cloudy on both fatleaf and big girl. I thought I'd be flushing fatleaf by now, but yesterday I fed here with the other two as she is still not quite ready yet.

Help me out if you could to understand this.

I already mentioned above where the trichomes are. Now here is where I am a little concerned and this is only with fatleaf. She has used up all of her fan leaves (yellow and dropped) and is working vigorously on her remaining leaves. Her hairs are mostly red, but still many white hairs, 70/30 I'd say. She looks ready and If I didn't check her trichomes I'd think she was good to go. Thoughts?

Big Girl looks more normal in her appearence and the Runt is also 'normal'.

Hey woods happy belated 420. I didn't have access to the internet for a little bit everything is looking great here. Almost there brother.
peace and good karma.

hey woodsy happy belated 420 as well sorry i missed yah I lost my damn mind on tues haha how was yours my brother? oh and i am doin my best not to screw it up with my girl cuz she is sweet haha i put a pic up of her all stoned in boulder

Hey Dude I just saw your pics and they are awesome! You all are cooked!

Update - Flower Day 61

Well I touched on this in a reply to Woods yesterday. But I forgot to mention it in an update!

On the 21st I fertilized all three of the ladies. I figured that Fatleaf was still not quite ready to flush at that time. I would think that that feeding was the last for her and I'll be using water and molasses from here on out. Big girl has very few red hairs and is about 50/50 clear/ cloudy (fatleaf is maybe 40/60 mostly cloudy and 3/4 red hairs). All three are pH's at mid 6's and I'm monitoring the trichomes of fatleaf and big girl daily.

Hi Woodsman Wait on the trichs! She's doing her normal thing, eating herself. If you want her to go faster put her in total darkness for a day or two.
That's the word I got from Butcher, my last grow. It helped somewhat.
I would just wait her out myself.:surf:

Hope your feeling better.:goodluck:
