Winter Weedy Wonderland - Auto Grow - Royal Queen Seeds

I have to use my old Samsung S6 for both Photone and PPFD Meter apps because my newer A32 does not have the whole suite of sensors that the S6 had.
I got it out and tried both apps with the S6. Photone read 370 PPFD while PPFD Meter read 390 under my desk grow lamp. Pretty close but PPFD Meter is hands down better app with graphing and mapping functions.
I don't have a lux meter so accuracy is a big question mark.

No your bad. I'm just being silly!

There was no meat on that bone of an answer I provided. In fact, it was no "answer" at all, just speculation.

I expected no thanks, just saw an opportunity to perhaps generate a chuckle or two! :)
You never fail to generate a chuckle for me. :laughtwo:

So, on another subject....I think the girls are finally getting into a growth spurt after I was so mean with overwatering early on. ;-)

Here they are today. I have a sticky trap for thrips hanging in there, and I haven't seen any on that or the plants today. Good news is always good news. :cheesygrinsmiley:

The more accurate app is
PPFD Meter-grow light Meter
By Home Studio Inc
& has a circle symbol with violet & blue on it
I found it on the play store

I don’t use one but con said this one was better than the other one
Looks like he bought a meter now

They look Extremely Happy now! 😊

Hi ya Becca! I just found that PPFD meter app on google play store after reading your post. I'm downloading that to see what it will do, in comparison to the photone app for the phone I have.
Thanks!

yeah i compared the Photone (updated version with defuser) with my S21FE android & the grow meter apps & a dedicated Quantum PPFD meter & the grow meter app was closer to the Quantum meter reading the Photone was out a little over 200 PPFD lower even calibrated it to the light manufactures PPFD map & i do notice a difference measuring PPFD with the tent door open ( a lower reading) as to just opening the zipper enough to stick my arm & head in & getting a reading so the reflective material makes a big difference for PPFD measuremets

I found a big difference in the two apps testing a bit ago. I'm now getting an average PPFD around 500-ish. I think that's probably close to the mark. Viparspectra manual shows average PPFD in 4x4 tent @75% light setting/26.2" high to be 540.

I may be remembering this incorrectly (and that really is a high probability given the swiss cheese I have for a memory) but I seem to remember calibrating the Photone app with my Vipar Spectras. I can't remember how it was done which is no help, but Photone had the instructions somewhere.... good luck!

I use Photone and trust the numbers whether they are right or wrong lol. My baseline works for me.

I will look again, but I'm pretty sure I did the calibrating that way. I think the glitch is coming from that information about my phone model, that the app is using the "fallback" to measure light intensity because my device does not support measuring that with the camera "yet". It's kind of confusing. But, I'm going to be testing both for the next couple of days and see if something dials in that I can understand and be fairly confident with.
Thanks Carmen, I will look for the specific viparspectra calibration on that app. to remember if I used it. LOL :)
