There's a lot to consider.
I have past experience in a similar size bedroom in tents but I was required to be 100% stealth. Also it was on the top floor of a hot, poorly insulated, hard to cool, old house. My air conditioner bill was insane.
So for 5-12 plants, you could use 2 x 1000 watt HID lights.
If you get sealed hoods or "cooltube" fixtures and run a separate extraction fan which pulls cool air from outdoors through 6" or 8" ducting hose, both light fixtures, and then directly outside again without affecting your room temperature or creating a vacuum - just taking the heat outside. Insulated ducting will help.
Then a secondary fan could be used to supply the exchange of air through the growing environment if necessary.

Rules of thumb: 4x plants in 8-10 gal pots per 1000w HPS. 5000btu AC per 1000w of light to cool efficiently.

But hopefully AC won't be necessary with enough air flow, right? Or is that too optimistic?

Depends on temps/RH outside the tent. 70°f outside tent, 50% RH + great ventilation = probably okay.

I am thinking 2 tents with 6 each on different cycles being as I can have 12 growing at any 1 time each with a 1000 watt HID light in each.
would that be easier to keep cool ? enough light ?

Do one 5'x10' tent w/2x 1000w. Easier to control RH/temps. Or daisy chain 2x 5'x5' tents, will save you a few $ as Apollo 5x5 tents, which are very nice, are about $99 each vs. a 5x10 @ probably $300.
Also, yield isn't "per plant" it's per watt. If you were to run big, using 12x Gavita Pro 1000s on 12x, 8' plants you'd do about 25 lbs/cycle. With only 12 plants. But a tent is only 80" tall, and after light hood, it's under 6'. If you do a 5x5 tent w/a 1000w light, you'd generally use 4x plants in 10 gal. pots, max.

I greatly prefer the 2 tent solution!
I'd veg in one tent and flower in the other. Veg would be 400 OR 600 MH to save energy.

I am not sure that is the correct question. The answer can vary greatly depending upon all of the parameters.
A better question is how much herb do you wish to harvest per month?
Just because you can grow 12 plants, doesn't necessarily mean that would be the most efficient solution for you

I think he wants to flower up to 12. If I was going to use tents I'd probably srsly consider 3x 5'x5' $99 Apollo flower tents w/a 1000w in each, daisy chained for air cooling the hoods, w/a single variety in each.

Are you saying 600 watts on the veg and 1000 on the bloom ?
and each 5x5 will hold 6 plants ?

Will you be cloning? I only mention it due to the 12 plant limit, with only 6 flowering at a time. I would assume they count clones as well?
You can split the veg tent with a cloning area.

True, just seems your going with a perpetual setup is why I mentioned it. Remember, we are only allowed 6 plants flowering at a time, legally.

Okay. Six in a 4x8 tent in 10-12 gal pots under 2x 1000w HPS & a 5x5 tent w/a 600w HPS for veg/cloning, then.
