Wheelo's 3rd run - Attack of the Holy Shoots

propa.

it has indeed tore me up. lol, not because of the fame but because of the skill.

thanks for your input on the root mass question. (both of you) i think i am going to see about ways of making the rooting area bigger, but i think you guys are inspiring me to give a screenless scrog a go. even if it doesn't produce what i want i still have the supersoil to fall back on.

thanks SS,

yeah, this supersoil mix is a new one for me, so fingers crossed. it's very similar to subcools supersoil from high times last month, with my own twists. it should turn out well, but its new to me so who knows.

also the fridge isn't a fridge anymore. lol. i rewired it so that it is controlled by a house thermostat to get the temp ranges i want, and wired some flouro in there to make it a DIY Incubator. aka, clone/seedling room. I can control temp to 1*F between 50* and 100*. it is usually about 65-80% RH in there depending on if there is standing water in there or not. it works very well.

glad i got something that interests you more. hopefully it will turn out nicely.

No worries Wheel. I laughed when i saw that. Didnt even notice the u next to the i.
I like the incubator thats a good idea.

i would mess around with you in person like that but it's so hard to convey inflection, I wouldn't want someone to take it wrong.

thanks, it started out as a stealth grow box.

Remember one thing: a root grows in length to search for nutrients and water, when you supply that for which it seeks, the search is short!

sounds true to me. but i would also guess that there must be some ratio of root surface area to maximum nutrient uptake that would limit the size of the plant to a specific size. this ratio would be very valuable to know.

thats why people like voodoo juice. it claims to quadruple your root mass. a large root mass means you can take in water and nutes so much faster and better, you get bigger better flowers.

i had a 250w mh/hps switchable ballast in there. at first the fridge had to work all the time to cool the light. it was just to much heat. (i said in an earlier post. . . if LED's back then were as good as they are now, man)

to solve that problem i installed tempered glass to cut off the top and seal in the light, then i cut out two holes and installed two computer rear slot fans that were designed to cool video cards and such. i wired them opposite so one was pull and the other push. this worked perfectly, and kept the grow part sealed. (i was injecting co2) plus the fridge only kicked on once in a while.

the problem i never solved was the humidity. even though the condenser pulled water out of the air and down the drain, I still could never get it below 65% ish. a problem i am again having in the tent here, but i can solve that when i get money, and i never get mold anyways.

i caught a glimpse of the first root to pop through the wool. that means i have to go out and buy some 3" RW. I have spent the last few hours cleaning and starting to prepare the wheel. i have turned it 90* in the tent so that i can get some side lighting from the 600 HPS for the dirty girls.

i still have to move some venting, but things are starting to get cracking.

also both of the GWS have cracked now and are starting their upward journey.

onward and upward.

Been a few days, i guess its time for an update. i just figured out where the big pics are so im gonna post big ones this time and see how I like it.

ok, so here are the 11 HS clones which i am gonna lst in the wheel. i think I've devised a good plan to increase root space by 600%. more on that later. i have been hardening them off for the past few days, and they are ready to be under the NH for good now. next stop, wheel town.

I think they are ready. . . i'm not lol, i still need to clean the wheel and buy 3" rw cubes, and make the mods i have to make.

here they are with the dirty girls.

here are the dirty girls. i am foliar feeding with 1/2 strength cns17 and a drop of superthrive until i think the roots get int the super soil. I also fed them today with a bit of hygrozyme, a drop of superthrive, some sweet and some voodoo juice. should help them out until they get into the SS.

i turned the wheel 90* so that the opening is facing the other side of the tent. this is so the 600 hps can add some supplemental side lighting to the dirty girls and vice versa. my tent is really an inch too narrow to run it sideways like this, but it just pushes on the walls slightly, and there is enough play that its not tight or anything. i think it will be ok like this. I hope so, because i would hate to have to redo the ducting again. I ran the whhel for a few hours and everything was smooth.

had to move the fan, an 8" duct assist fan from home depot for 5 bucks with a 6" reducer on each side. 80 watts, and does a more than enough to keep the light cool, even in the summer.

here are the Great White Shark seedlings. coming along nicely in the clone box.
