Welcome All My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Canna M & Nismo12 Team Up!

Re: Welcome All My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Canna M & Nismo12 Team Up!

Good point K. I'm still going to clean and evaporate out the solvent just to see what I get. It's a shame we can't get it tested. I've done another questionable oil pull and in the end couldn't make myself use it for anything. That may be the case here as well. It'll be a fun Saturday afternoon adventure, if nothing else.

Thanks for stepping in as the voice of reason. I get a little ahead of myself sometimes. :battingeyelashes:

No worries! And, you'll get something. The percentage of THC in resin is approximately 12%, so it's got THC and other cannabinoids. I just don't see the total return being anything significant unless you have a LOT of resin!

Here's an actual analysis of bowl resin!

What I Learned About
My Dirty Bowl[/COLOR (What’s in the resin?)

Anyone who researches as part of their job can relate to this – all of sudden you are reading an article you stumbled across while you were looking for something entirely different. It catches your eye, you click, scan, click again and you don’t even remember what you were looking for. This accidental find triggers something in you that starts you off on a new adventure you might not have ever thought of. My adventure was to perform a chemical analysis of resin scraped from my glass bowl. I remember in my youth having occasions where I wanted to smoke a bowl but did not have a supply of bud. Of course I had been introduced to scraping resin from a bowl to smoke at some point by one of my friends and would resort to that in a pinch. Thinking back on those bowls of reclaimed resin, I recall getting a sub-par buzz, not like a nice juicy bud kind of high.

After getting pulled into an article by High Times Magazine titled 5 Signs You’re Are Smoking Too Much Marijuana’ by Russ Belville, which recommends not smoking these resin scrapings, I decided I had to find out what was in those bowls of resin scrapings from my youth. After all, I am a research scientist specializing in cannabis and I have my own accredited cannabis testing laboratory. Curiosity drives much of what I do. I cleaned my bowl with a small metal knife carefully collecting the resin. My bowl was really overdue for a cleaning by the way. I carefully weighed about 140 mg of resin into a collection tube and performed our standard validated cannabinoid profile analysis on the resin and ash. After processing the data I have to admit I am very surprised by the results. Almost 15% by weight consisted of cannabinoids! Full disclosure – this analysis only looks for the presence and amount of six cannabinoids – THC, d8 THC, CBD, CBN, THCa, and CBDa. It does not inform what other compounds are present. Combustion of plant material results in the formation of hazardous chemicals and intentionally ingesting the residue resulting from this combustion is likely not favorable to good health. I agree that smoking bowl scrapings is pretty desperate, not something you should do, and not as good as smoking proper cannabis products. This makes the results all the more surprising. I guess it must be the elevated CBN dragging down the experience(CBN is known to cause drowsiness) but with a THC max of just over 12% I have to admit these results are unexpected. So hopefully someone out there has always wanted to know and now you do. My curiosity is temporarily satisfied, but if you have an idea for an experiment, drop me a line at scottc@mcrlabs.com and if I can make it happen (no guarantees) I will.

Thanks for that article Mr. Krip! I think I'll agree with the info above and not use this internally. I did scrape the bowl and put the collections in alcohol. It smells awful. I'm not sure if there really is a use for this. Id hate to put this in my body not knowing what the other 85%-88% of the oil contains. Thanks again Mr. K! Sue, I'd take his advice in this one if I was you. It was a fun conversation though. Lol! I'll stick to :cco:

Canna, you just let us know when you & Nis run out of quality buds & trim to make extractions from and I'll personally lead the effort for donations on this forum to make sure you two never have to think about resin again! :high-five:

You should be vaping instead of smoking anyways (I know...I do, too!) and you can use the ABV for extractions!

I'm decarbing some good buds now with some sugar leaves in the mix. Then I'll add the ABV to it and freeze it. Then winterize later. That'll be some good :cco:. Thanks for setting me straight on the resin. It's smell is in my fingernails and is yucky!

So, I assume I can add you to the list of people I've read of trying this and being disappointed with the results???

HARVEST DAY! :party::ganjamon::woohoo:

Here we are once again on another wonderful harvest day. We took time to take a LOT of bud porn photos before, during and after the cut. We decided not to take a pre dry weight. We want to see what they give us dry. :thumb:

Not too bad for our first auto harvest. The next auto to harvest will be about a month away, and she is a beast! We will do a complete auto update tomorrow.

Today I started a batch of Sues Healing Hand Lotion. That will be in the oven for 36 hrs before it comes out and is completed.

I also will be making some :cco: tonight. The buds and sugar leaves are decarbed and frozen. The 95% grain alcohol is in the freezer also. Now to go winterize it, then back in the freezer overnight. I hope you all have a great evening. We will be hanging out on the couch watching movies.

Lol! Yes, please add me to that list. I didn't even get to the end result before I aborted that mission.

See? I know I won't use it, but I'll carry it all the way to the end. Just insatiably curious. :laughtwo: Smells like an ashtray, no way around it.

Calling that smell like an ashtray was doing it justice. Lol! It was black and nasty. Now I'm curious to see what yours looks like when it's done.

Questionable extractions: Things your mother would have said "NO!" to. :laughtwo:

We grow and we harvest and we smoke and vape and eat some of the finest cannabis available. How blessed are we? How many of us had hard times in the past and looked at that bowl or stem and wondered......?

Well, I took it upon myself to do more than wonder.

Some of the vilest oil I've laid eyes on.

image14937.jpeg

Surprisingly, it no longer smells like an ashtray, although it doesn't smell like anything I'd want to ingest or give to someone else to ingest. It was a fun experiment that pulled more than I expected from waste. Of course, in my world this is waste, but in someone else's world this could be a lifesaver.

Let's work on a world where no one ever needs to choose this sad option for meds.

When I was a kid I would scrape my pipe out when I couldn't find any thing lol. It would go dry all the time now days the young people don't know what it's like to have to hunt all day to find it, and then the guy only has grams.

Grams for twice the price. Yeah, I still remember those days.
