on the other hand the stuff is nuclear, it probably would kill anything. When I used it, I drenched a coco crop..10mL of the stuff made 55gal of water turn grey/white and frothy....UHHH...hello? the room smelled like RAID for a week.

lucky it wasnt my house

Hello Nis I was window shopping in a growstore today and I saw programmable controller with CO2 meter, humidity and temp meter and electronic valve all connected together and I was keeping an eye out for you the whole time. Advise against CO2 if you have PAR readings under 1000 with most strains. Better to have faster exhaust.

I like HRV systems as you can save yourself some bucks on the heating, but it removes humidity. Even homemade ones made out of old drink cans work. There are also systems that maintain the humidity. Note that near air tightness is recommended to use HRV.

I use Spinosad for pests it is organic and degrades after several days, so it should be even save to spray your flowers with it. Pretty strong stuff. Even better if you could maintain a happy populace of ladybugs in your rooms.

Spinosad Products (safe & organic) - Spinosad products are organic and unlike many other spider mite pesticides, completely harmless to pets, children, and plants. Unlike many insecticides, you can spray spinosad heavily on leaves and roots with basically no negative effects. Spinosad products can be used directly to kill spider mites on contact, but can also be used when watering plants to systematically kill spider mites via the roots. Spinosad can also be effective at fighting caterpillars, thrips, and many other marijuana pests.

Can be used both as a topical spray like Azamax and Mighty Wash, and can also be used directly at the roots. Spinosad is an organic insecticide made from the fermentation of a specific soil bacteria (actinomycete Saccharopolyspora spinosa) and kills spider mites via ingestion or contact by effecting the insect's nervous system. Spinosad can be a good choice for organic and outdoor growers, because it is very toxic to spider mites, but is less toxic to many beneficial arthropods.

Note: Most spinosad products are effective for only about 24 hours after being mixed with water, so only mix as much as you will need per application. Anything left over will be waste. You will need a mister (also called a "One-Hand Pressure Sprayer") to spray all the leaves evenly.

I hope this helps, good luck with the Flux I like it very much!:Namaste:

Hey C & N....got your T tonight Nis! I forwarded the font specs to Canna's email OK! cheers , hope ya like it...the i is a lil weird but that's how the computer spit it out . Hope ya like it Nis! cheers guys!

Re: Welcome All My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Canna M & Nismo12 Team Up!

STS or Sodium ThioSulfate is used to "reverse" the sex of a female plant. What it does when sprayed on the plant is blocks the ethylene, the chemical produced by a plant to make female Flowers, so it will then allow male flowers to form. Previously we used colloidal silver to reverse the sex of a dark devil Auto and it worked great. But with this method, it worked flawlessly with a lot less effort.

On Sunday November 27th I did a basic write up on how we did this this, so if you go back to that it explains on how to do it. I'd tag a link here but my links never work while on my mobile. I can explain more in depth if needed though.

:passitleft:

Thanks, I checked that out ( thanks DrZiggy for posting it up ). I am curious though I just briefly ( very briefly ) looked up how to apply collidal silver and this method seems more complicated. What are the advantages of using this versus colloidal silver? You said this is less effort, is that just in terms of making your own?

I am trying to preserve a strain that I have lost a source for and it's not available online, so I want to get some pollen out of it. Been thinking about rodelization too. I just recently did my first seed making so I am thinking I probably don't even need much. I pollinated one bud and got almost 40 seeds. What would you recommend?

Do you know much about the genetic side of things? I'm curious what happens if you take a plant that was from a feminized seed and apply colloidal silver to that, thus again forcing male pollen, and then used that to breed back on itself. I'm guessing it's just like normal back breeding but I don't know how the feminized part of it effects it.

The feminized pollen only creates feminized seeds. You will get a feminized seed source which is great for ensuring you get bud on every plant you grow. It can and probably will lose vigor over generations though as family trees without any branches tend to do.

Yeah that's what I was worried about, I have heard things start to fall off after only about the 3rd-4th self-generation. I think for that reason I should probably try to get as much seeds as I can of one generation.

Hi!

Allow me to introduce myself...

I'm guilty of being a lurker of this site and of all that follow.

I've been watching you all grow for quite a few months. Your knowledge has guided me more than you know.

In my book, you guys are legends and are what makes this site what it is. Canna, Nis, Sweetsue, Light Addict, Mr Amazin, LEDDRF....too many to list.

I have read this whole thread. It took me a bit, but made it to the end

Two things : 1. I will be dropping beans very soon. 2. Don't stop what you afraid doing.

Coder, post number one....gotcha !! Would like to offer up a big warm welcome to the "mag", and more importantly , this neighborhood.
We are very proud of our group around these parts and take a lot of pride in our grows and helping other members along this path. Most of us are growing in soil (DBHBB) and are having repeated success and a lot of fun growing out different strains , searching for that elusive best one! Please get around to some of the other journals and get a feel for our people...you will find them to be very genuine and full of integrity. This journal is a great example of that! Please though Coder, we only ask a couple little things of new members, enter our journals with a smile and leave any ego at the door OK! Do these things and we promise you , ya won't wanna leave this place. The knowledge around here and growing experience is staggering , to say the least. Do some reading over at one of Doc Buds journals and get an idea of all the success we are having growing with his high brix kit. It comes very highly recommended by ALL who use it. Thanks for getting out of that "lurker" state and stepping up to join us. Have a great Christmas and a wonderful holiday season Coder...cheers to ya ...and welcome to our place!:circle-of-love::welcome::bravo::cheertwo:

We are your number one post?! How cool is that? I feel privileged to have you come out of the corner in our journal! Welcome!

You get props for reading the whole journal! I should go back and do that. There is so much info here, I bet I've forgotten some of it. Lol!

I'm glad Duggan had the chance to do his official welcome. It's so warm and inviting, isn't it? He's a good egg. Just be careful around him, you know about his thing for toes by now. Lol!

Have a great day bud!

The only part that was different was having to mix the solutions in the beginning. The colloidal silver had to be diluted also but only once. The major difference was that we had to spray 2 or 3 times a day for almost 4 weeks to get pollen. With the STS we sprayed a total of 5 times. Twice on the day of flip, twice a week later, and once 2 weeks after that. We had pollen in 24 days from flip. Last night I lightly shook a branch and pollen was flying everywhere. It was amazing.

Personally I would do this to one of your plants. Sacrifice one plant and get a couple hundred seeds. We will have a couple hundred from this run alone. Rodelization to me is forcing a plant to hermie through stress, which some people say that the traits will be passed on. It works, but not guaranteed and takes longer. The $25 for the STS is worth it to me.

Do you know much about the genetic side of things? Yup it is just like normal breeding. It would be a S2 instead of a S1. Just another generation of self pollination. That is how you breed out the genes you don't want and keep the ones you do. We will have a wider selection of Devils carnival to choose from with the next batch. Do we want more sativa dominant or indica? Auto or just a feminized photo? Once you get it where you want, usually 3 or 4 generations later, it will be considered stable. So after this run, we will have to do this 2 more times to have it the way we want it.

Hope this clears things up for you a bit. :passitleft:

You can outbreed with something similar with lots of vigor to help that. You could also pop quite a few and pick the best 4 to breed in pairs and make two lines, then breed those together later. It will keep the gene pool as open as possible.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have zero ego. I'm here to learn. I'll be in the background for the most part. Gonna start my first grow in a couple weeks. I'll chime in for questions when needed. Thanks!.

Oh yeah, $25 seems totally worth it to me. Where do you get the STS from though?

How long does it take the STS to force it to make staminate flowers capable of producing pollen? Right now my problem is basically that I have 6 seedlings going, and they were my last seeds. So unless I successfully clone another batch, that's the end of the line. Normally I would be like, "So what" but the last time I cloned somehow I fubar'd it and they all died. So I'm a little nervous and just want something a little more permanent than clones to fall back on. Here's what I am thinking...

I have a 4x4 tent and next to it in the corner of the room is a 200 Watt CFL. Maybe more like 150, it's like max 5000 lux right at the tops of the plants. It promotes mild vegetative growth. So I figure that if I took the seedlings I have now, put them under this, then I would be able to keep them in stasis basically while I put one in the tent into flower. I know it only takes 3 weeks for them to start flowering even from seedling ( after my 12/12 from seed foray ) so then I'd only need to wait the additional time it took for the STS application to make staminate flowers and for them to produce pollen. Once I had the pollen, I could freeze store it ( did it once already so pretty confident there ) then apply it with a brush after I had taken the other seedlings out of the "stasis" zone and put them back into the tent for flower. Just not sure how long they would have to stay under that weak CFL in order to make that happen and if it's feasible they would stay healthy for that long.

You can outbreed with something similar with lots of vigor to help that. You could also pop quite a few and pick the best 4 to breed in pairs and make two lines, then breed those together later. It will keep the gene pool as open as possible.

Interesting. I did begin a Cherry OG x Platinum Girl Scout Cookies cross, and both were quite vigorous plants. I am just not sure what to expect from that, but I know I really like the Platinum Girl Scout Cookies so trying my best to save it.

What would happen if I took pollen from a Cherry OG x Platinum Girl Scout Cookies cross, and then pollinated a Platinum Girl Scout Cookies with it? Would that kind of backbreed it back into the Platinum Girl Scout Cookies gene pool?

Today is day 26 from the time we flipped to 12/12 and from the first STS application and we have this:

Funny looking wilted pistils mean pollination. Start the 30 day clock to viable seeds.

Yup. The traits would start leaning towards the GSC. If you wanted you could eventually breed out the cherry OG.
