We had to make two attempts the the PC. The first one got her helmet stuck on and wouldn't come off. When it loosened up and finally came off it was too late. 2nd attempt went much better.
Me too, it turns out - but that's because I chose to disregard common sense and my own decades-old memories and stick a big mercury vapor (lol) light on top of the 30-gallon aluminum trash can I was using at the time for a seedling chamber. I figured that with all the wattage, even a MV lamp would surely put out as much
usable light as a couple of 23-watt CFLs (which I did not have), and the heat would rise instead of going downwards into the can. Yeah... And those magic beans I traded my cow for will surely produce a great beanstalk that I can use to climb up to the giant's residence and steal a foul - but golden - fowl from, right
? Next time I looked at the can it was right on the verge of being too hot to touch, but that was okay at that point because the seedlings had already been cooked from the heat (and UV radiation).
I've had seedcases stay attached before. I just keep wetting them down (dunk in a bottle cap for 30 seconds or so every time I think of it). I think it is (mostly) something that occurs when the ambient humidity is a little low; or the airflow is too high, I suppose. Sometimes the repeated wetting will be sufficient, occasionally I have had to help nature along. Once in a while... rarely - but it happens - I'll see damage on the cotyledons, screw up cutting the membrane between the two (assuming they are still together), or something and lose the seedling. It didn't use to bother me. Now, however...
I hope this one doesn't require any help or have special needs.
This sounds like an awesome idea! Hell I would just take a few "throw away" seeds and plant them everywhere. Next spring that might be an option. With our cross breeding going on here, we should have quite a few extras and we could plant them literally everywhere.
I used to be a regular Johnny Cannabis-seed back before my cojones shriveled up (translation: before I realized that people depended on me and, well, before I went and got old when I wasn't looking). My favorite planting was in the big concrete planter beside the front door of the local jail. It lasted until it started flowering, lol. Oh, and I once managed to leave two flats/trays of seedlings in a local plant nursery. No idea whether the employees figured out what they were and trashed them (or took them home :rolleyes3 ) or they sold them with all their other seedlings. I used to stick seeds in balloons, fill them with gas, and let them go, too. My buddy did the same thing with them in little "compost balls," but I stuck mine in tiny bags along with instructions - I figured the odds would be better than expecting the seed to grow its way out of a balloon all by itself, but IDK. I was also pretty good at getting bumper stickers onto LEO's cruisers. Mainly "legalize" and "420" types, but I went off the reservation, so to speak, on one cop who was hassling a stripper that used to be a friend of mine (RiP, Debbie) until I got the idea to drop a pair of used panties in between the passenger seat and passenger door of his personal vehicle and let his (soon-to-be ex-)wife fix his wagon for me
. It turned out she had a temper and a brother, so that db bled more than just money before it was all said and done. I met her at a party a couple of years later, told her what I had done... and she thanked me.
You know? The last 10 or so clones we took were either in the aero cloner which has just tap water in it and some spray nozzles. No nutrients and everything we put in there grows roots. No dome or anything. Set it and forget it. Then we also took 3 or 4 from the crown royale and just stuck them into HB soil with nothing added but a little Roots! and some RO water. Next thing you know is that have swirling roots in the solo cup.
Mom has been putting all kinds of cuttings (except cannabis) in a glass of water on her kitchen windowsill for 50 years and has probably only had to throw away half a dozen failures. Her mom did the same thing, and I have as well. I haven't done cannabis that way for 20 years or so out of paranoia, but it used to work fine. A little slow is all. As you have found, aerating the water helps (by speeding the process, mainly). A medium works, too, if it's not so wet that the stems rot before they root. I have decided that - with good environmental conditions, of course - a humidity dome isn't really necessary and may in fact be detrimental when the goal is to encourage the cuttings to send out roots in search of moisture instead of keep them alive as long as possible without rooting. I'll use one sometimes in the dead of Winter when the RH is around 20%, but not constantly even then. I've rooted a lot in little cups of perlite with some vermiculite mixed in (to make remembering to check the moisture level not
quite so important a task). And I've gone to the craft store for a round Styrofoam disk, floated it in a five-gallon bucket of water with airstones in it, and used that for a cloner. Worked great... but not really worth the trouble if I wasn't in a hurry for 24 new plants. If they're not dried up / expired / no good, I have a little bottle of Olivia's Cloning Gel (used to be a big fan of Olivia's products), about ¼-bottle of Olivia's Cloning Solution (just a really weak NPK/micronutrient, but both it and the gel contains salix alba - white willow - which is a natural root stimulator), and whatever is left in a 25-year old packet of Rootone (for the fungicide in it). They were in the collection of nutrients/etc. that I gave away three years ago when I got
extra-paranoid, and they came back untouched earlier this year. Along with the nutrients that I have to hope are still good, because they're all I have to use. Since I've thought of it, I'll probably mix up a half-strength gallon of the Olivia's Cloning Solution. Maybe water my germinated seeds with it, IDK. I also have a sample packet of mycorrhizae that a friend and fellow forum member gave me last month when I made the journey to their location, but IDK if I'll open it now or wait until Spring.
I'd sure like to find my heating pad. That'd probably be the best thing I could do for the (potential) seedlings and cuttings right now. I just stuck them off to the side from the
Amare Technologies SE350+UVB with a milk crate over them so they don't get eaten or knocked over (now if I can just remember not to KICK the bloody thing when I go in...). I was actually a little cool last night, and I don't get that way until other people are wearing multiple layers, lol. Maybe it's because I forgot to eat anything again yesterday, but I think the weather is changing. We got hit with a bad-hot Summer and it lasted through our normal "nice weather, not too hot" late Summer / early Autumn period - kind of has me all screwed up, still.
She wasn't a slow grower in my opinion but wasn't so fast we couldn't keep up with her. We got a little over 4 oz dry from her when she was in veg for 7 weeks.
I used to like long vegetative period single-plant (per light) scrog grows in 20+ gallon DWC reservoirs. Now I'm just stumbling along, rather poorly (in every sense of the word, sadly), with half a bag of dirt and some old, opened, badly-stored nutrients. I do NOT miss selling - and it undoubtedly added to an already heavy karmic load - but I do miss having the money to buy whatever I wanted for the grow (or at least buy...
something for it). I had hoped to have bought/built a good blower, a carbon filter setup, and a probe for my Milwaukee pH56 meter, maybe even have gotten a decent EC/PPM meter by now. Instead... Well, I managed to make the house payment again this month, and somehow found the money to pay a few of Mom's bills. Seems like I told myself that I'd treat myself to a pair of shoes for my birthday (which was months ago), but at least I was able to talk my brother out of a partial roll of duct tape, lol, so I suppose they'll keep until next year. It hasn't really been an atypical year - they
all suck any more - but the bills have been a little higher, there have been a little more of them, work didn't seem to pay quite as well, there was less of it, and it petered out a month or two early this time. And Mom falling and hurting herself a few months ago, then getting sick, THEN getting a kidney stone... Somewhere in the middle of that I realized that bits and pieces of her mind have been escaping like so much smoke through a screen. And she went to her "general purpose" doctor last week and he told her to go see her cancer doctor - I hope that's not back
again. <SIGH> She had to give up a couple more of her cleaning jobs, and I know as well as anyone that an old woman in the shape she's in shouldn't be working AT ALL at physical labor, but... man. It is a bad time to hear, "I might need you to start giving me some more money - not much,
just a few hundred." So... Will I heat the grow room above 40° this Winter (and sleep in it, since it'll be the warmest spot in the house)... or run the lights in it, lol? I actually broke down and put in an application at Taco Bell the other day even though I'm obviously not the kind of person they're looking for (not being 16, a convicted felon, and "working on my GED" :rolleyes3 ). They must have lost my application, I guess. Along with everyone else. IDK... Something will turn up. I really just need to keep my nose above water (or at least quit grabbing gravel off the bottom) for as long as Mom is around. Err... I didn't mean that to be as harsh as it probably means, just that I can go live in a cardboard box in the woods and get by. My best friend lives in the woods (albeit in a fifth-wheel that seems larger than my first apartment) and I have friends that live in "Tent City" down by the river, so I guess I'd fit right in.
Hey, at least the
Chicago Cubs might make it to the World Series (as long as I don't bet on them, ha ha). A team ought to win every 100 years or so (tell that to the eight(?) teams that have yet to win a single Series), lol - and they're a little late.
By far one of the best terp profiles that we have in our stash so far.
I remember that being mentioned. The (small amount of) supplemental UV ought to help facilitate that. I also read a smoke report of Huckleberry that stated something like "No need to worry about the odor from this bud. People
WILL smell it - but they'll just think you have a pocket full of candy." So IF the germinated seed I recently planted is the same strain and IF it manages to break ground, I could have a couple of pleasant ones in that regard.
What was the final container size of your Pineapple Chunk, and what type of medium?
I didn't know you had a journal going
It barely deserves the designation. It is a bit of a... clusterf*ck.
All the tests came back negative. I do have a CT coming up next week. I'm hoping they can figure out what the pain is from. Feeling loads better, and week 7 cigarette free
Congratulations again on the win against cigarettes! If I still had my big "No Smoking (Unless it's a Joint)" sign, I'd offer to mail it to you. That little beast might sneak up and attempt to bite you on the ankle now and then (as it tends to do) - but just remember, you kicked its arse already. And if that doesn't work, then remember what you went through to do it, lol, and how much you DON'T want to have to do it again.
I hope they figure out what your issue is, so you can see about dealing with it. I hope that "figuring it out" doesn't have to involve a barium milkshake, as I have had those on two separate occasions and the only reason I managed to choke down - and keep it down - one the second time was that the word "enema" was mentioned after I spewed the first and refused the second. I hope it's not Crohn's, because it sucks. Or anything else that begins with the same letter, because that would suck worse.
Most things having to do with "the gut" are worse with stress added in, for some reason... so just knowing (and having waded through all the doctor crap at that point) will help, methinks.
