Hope you not talking to me.. my gripe is nobody taking the bait ..

I base my harvest times on the same thinking I use when picking fruit. When it ripens on the vine it takes on a succulent colourful glow that says just says ‘eat me, I’m ripe and delicious’. For some strange reason I can’t bring myself to harvest bud before it at least starts to approach that stage. Trimming it up when it’s crisp and hard and bright green feels all wrong to me -like picking a green tomato or a rock hard peach in mid summer. My instincts all tell me not to do it. I realize that this is different to how almost everyone else harvests.
I might be better off just checking trichomes, like a normal person, and could save myself a few weeks flowering time. But I don’t feel like resisting my gut feelings about it

First I love the introduction and the recommendation to skip to the end and here you are at page 142! Congrats.

I'm a vine ripened kinda a guy myself ..its makes my mouth water when I see buds vine ripen as well as pictures of them .

I better edit..i forget you like an on topic journal...

Damn reject shop timers, 24 hours and five minutes.. think that wasn't doing my head in :rofl:

Mine are all like that too. Digital timer power bars that cost $60 each here. I go reset them to the right time every couple months. I don’t really get it. Didn’t they figure the digital clock thing a while back?

Weasel I'd smoke the shit out of that bud! I'm sure it will make some good hash too

The only problem with that bud is that I’d never be able to find a home for it. That type of strain makes me feel paranoid. Gone are the days I can easily trade bud for fish, firewood, or favours. I used to just grow lots of bud, mostly for fun. It was very worthwhile stuff to have around. A bunch of sativa for me and a few indicas for the other people, and let the chips fall however they may later. Now I’m just spinning the wheels of this grow out of habit and stupidity mostly. I give lots away. Even that can be difficult. ‘Nah man I’ve got lots....’
Hash is still useful though. I made some yesterday it’s drying now.
I’m hoping to find a little niche for sativas. Still most people don’t even know what a sativa is though.

Cheers No Pain. Anytime. I’m just cruising by too...:)

The vine ripened thing- well it happens to us all.

I ended up with a flowering room that will all be ready to harvest around the same time in a few weeks. Which is sort of weird for me. Sounds like work.
Gotta start squeezing some in from veg now and then so I don’t have to repeat the same ‘all ready at once’ cycle a couple months later.
Oh wait I don’t have any potting soil left.
Have to get to work so I can get the money to buy the potting mix so I can repot some veg plants and stick em in flowering. So I can grow more bud....

Me too. :hmmmm: Isn't there an atomic clock signal that gets transmitted over satellite and even the electric grid? The damned timers are plugged into the grid ... :hmmmm:

When I used to play with Arduinos (programmable controller board) a few years back, most of the Real Time Clocks on the market weren't entirely accurate and would lose seconds per month, or better units seconds per year. After many months planning my code, then writing, I realized after the fact that accuracy for growing isn't all that important. Things like switching back and forth for daylight savings, or brown outs, or grower errors, all are overlooked if the errors are minor and not too frequent. 5 seconds a day is a lot for the timing of critical operations, but I doubt that kind of accuracy could even be appreciated in a grow room.

The kind of timers I’m using now have been ok in the sense that they’ve been working for a few years and haven’t gone up in flames like a couple of my first digital timers did.
But the clocks wander drastically over time. I’d estimate 5- 10 minutes per month. I reset them to my phone frequently.
At one point this spring when I checked, the two in flowering were off from each other by close to 45 minutes- which meant my usual 11/13 light schedule was closer to 12/12.

Hey Weas - check out this gnarly swollen Y Griega I'm about to harvest! It reminded me of your stuff. It was ready for chop, but then it started this new round of pistils and holy smokes, it exploded! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Is that how yours go? You run 'em as long as they'll go? You get some amazing buds!

Beauty. Beautiful. Beautilicious.

Indeed. Well done @Graytail

Ooh nice - 89 days that’s my sort of flowering time. Fluffy! My YG were never that nice and hefty looking. PotChimp’s latest look sort of chunky like that too.
Sure looks like it doesn’t have plans to finish anytime soon....

Mine tend to grow bushy and floppy but that’s how almost everything grows at my place these days.

Sadly I discontinued the Y Griega just recently. Bud piling up almost as fast as my power bills. It’s always been a hobby grow and I normally ever only made a few trades here and there, personal smoke and fun projects, and lots of gifting. After the last year of vision issues though- low income and decreasing bud value, I realized that those few trades are very nice to have.
So I got sort of desperate like ‘Wtf am I doing here anyway’ and purged a few strains including YG and Carnival, one of the Choc Mint phenos, clones of the latest Golden Tiger, etc.

It relates back to an incident a couple months ago when a sort of stoner ‘friend’ I know asked for some because, he said, his friends were looking. Sounded good to me. So I gave him all my Y Griega and a large pile of Carnival, cause everyone loves Carnival. A few weeks later I called and asked him how things going and he spat out very bitterly, and savagely,

‘It’s like fucking smoking fucking air!’

So that was disappointing. A couple weeks later I finally got sort of pissed about it and asked for my air back and... well I’m sure you all know how this story goes :laughtwo:
After a long confusing runaround in the mists of Stonerland it eventually emerged that- yes, there was no more air. Poor suffering buddy had vaped up all the ‘fucking air’ in his fancy expen$ive brand new volcano vaporizer. Probably after selling enough to pay for the volcano I’m guessing.

And that was that. Goodbye air. Goodbye stoner ‘friend’. And goodbye Carnival and YG cause who wants to grow air, my stash can only hold so much of it.

Funny thing is, a couple weeks later I sent a bunch of bud including some of the last of the Carnival to Vancouver to a friend for her birthday present and she absolutely loves it, and all her friends love it. She keeps talking about it. So now ironically there are all these people way down in Vancouver of all places who want me to send them down Carnival. I have the last one ready to harvest, I’ll try to reveg it.

I started two new Carnivals a couple days ago. I don’t think I have any more Y Griega seeds though.

I’m leaving my next 6 or 8 plants to flower long cause I want the seeds from GT pollen to ripen.
Have one of the original P Chunks that survived long enough to turn colourful, and I want to harvest it today if I can manage.

Turns out I didn’t pollinate my whole flower room as I had feared. The new PCs just have fat and pointy calyxes.

Forgot to mention, my career as auto grower failed. The two I mentioned both died young. So I sprouted two more.
Those died too within a week, when only a half inch tall :(

So yeah, they weren’t even started flowering yet...If only they’d lived another week I could have harvested them?

Those autos sure are tricky to grow, gonna have to buy a bunch more seeds now. I guess...

heya friend,, cheers to ya

seems i also have issues with the youngun autos,, they seem finikey, tho i am having youngun issues with all my plants now that i hempy em,, seems the transition from seed to sprout to youngun is delayed with my process,,

they do recover, eventually, most of em anyway,, i have had several auto seedlings actually die, or at least become unworthy of further attention,, then die

right now i have a flower room that seems to be sucking the chlorophyll right out of the leaves,, yellowing abounds, must say

i am using urine again,, just a bit,, for a touch of nitrogen,, and cal/mag,, but it's beem more than two weeks with calmag and not really an improvement,, so i just started a bit of urine,, see if that helps

i am thinking ph now,, perhaps i have it too low,, my 5.5 might be too low,, even possibly from ph meter error

seems i went thru this once before

i do like the autos for outside,, i have three outside right now,, not large but two of three doing nice

as this dark devil auto rolls along,, three weeks left perhaps,, mostly green but a bitto purp on top

cheers friend,, karma sent over the water and trees

Was it angry or just blunt? Give dudes a pound of fan leaves in aus and your thanked like a legend, lol. Ask em what it smoked like and you'd get the same reply though, lol... Haven't tried carnival due to the folks on here that rave about it, but your looked nice, sticky.... Karma stolen that was sent :rofl:

... it's how people seem to be now days. No integrity whatsoever.
It was my mistake really. A bit annoying but I should have seen it coming. Has some entertainment value too with that ‘smoking air’ gem.

Was it angry...

You know when there’s a four year old and they whine to their mom all day cause they were promised an ice cream and then finally they get the ice cream but drop it in the dirt and they’re already on their way home and mommy won’t buy them a new one? It was like that. He’s a real head case. Just the way he is. My fault for being involved - no big loss.
So he will feel guilty, and avoid me for the next year. When I do see him I’ll have to listen to his sad tales of woe. Someday he will make it up to me by giving me a half dozen salmon and his change collection.
It’s just the way he is. He only likes the stuff that makes him forget his name, slump in a corner and drool. Literally. TBH he’s got a bit of a problem.
Carnival is a great happy daytime smoke. Easy to grow, a nice straightforward strain that’s hard to find anything bad to say about. At least he’s the only one I’ve heard. Everyone else I’ve given it to likes it as their favourite.
If you only like super strong heavy indica stuff then it’s probably too airy.
this dark devil auto

That’s probably another one of the popular kind Grizzwald mentioned avoiding.
Have you tried it before?

i am thinking ph now,, perhaps i have it too low,, my 5.5 might be too low,, even possibly from ph meter error

5.5 would seem pretty good to me. @Tead runs them at around 5.6 I believe. I don’t think you can mess up too badly if you stick at 5.8.
