Lowers between the screens.

425ppm / 0.85 EC in, 1100ppm / 2.2 EC out.

I lowered input ppm / EC slightly yesterday. I want to stay close to 1000ppm / 2.0 EC runoff.

Shes growing according to plan and have a lot of potential looking this developed early on. The second carbon filter really helped to keep her quieter. Maybe I'll have to add another one in the bottom in a couple of weeks.

Side shoot growing in the extended space!

Side shoots from one of the mains. Thrip damage.

Hi Mistah Thrip! Getting harder to chew buddy? (The actual thrip was killed during the photo shoot.)

400ppm / 0.8 EC in, 1100ppm / 2.2 EC out.

- I made the right decision to lower input even further yesterday.

pH 5.5 in. 5.95 out. Raising input to pH 5.8.

Looking great! & them spacers are doing the job well 👌I threw some ladybirds in my tent and they cleaned up both tents in a week.
Thanks bud! Ladybugs are sadly illegal to use and order here. :(

Really I wonder if it is illegal in Mass. In my case it would be the same as just setting them free.
The reasoning is they don't want invasive Asian Ladybugs killing off native insects. Understandable but it could be controlled by having regulation and certain certifcation instead of flat out make them illegal to use. We have several native species. In EU.

That is a good reason and yes, I have some come by every so often. I love seeing them.
I've actually been thinking about ways to lure them in and collecting them during summer months. I remember warm and dry summers as a kid when the ladybugs swarmed and bit you when you have were swimming in the pool. Lol! You could've collected them by hand in buckets back then.

I was going to say bugnap a few lol I snatched a few from the yard after buying some. Next year I'll be out hunting them 🤣

Looks decent. Looks like mostly humic acid and some fulvic. It should be decent quality but I haven't tried it yet.

400ppm / 0.8 EC in, 1000ppm / 2.0 EC out.

Finally slow decline. Let's see where she lands. I increased the feeding volume since she started to drink more and had almost no runoff.

pH 5.8 in, pH 6.1 out.

Day 36. Getting louder and louder this girl. She's drinking more meaning she's packing on weight. Mid flower pH drop is coming up so I'm raising input to pH to ~6.1-6.3.

Second runoff reading:
400ppm / 0.8 EC in, 1150ppm / 2.3 EC out.

pH 5.8 in pH 5.75 out, pH is declining.

400ppm / 0.8EC in, 1000ppm / 2.0 EC out.

pH 6.2 in, pH 5.7 out. pH is crashing and declining, packing on weight and releasing a lot of acids onwards. Raising input pH to 6.5.

Very nice Wastei looks like someone took the sugar shaker to them. :thumb: :circle-of-love:
Thanks Keith! She's coming along and grows well all things considered! I'm getting a new camera in a couple of days, gotta be fun to try to take better pictures. Cheers! :thanks:
She's definitely fattening up 👌
Thanks Greenvein! She drinks and eat more and I get less runoff for my other greens. Had to use old bottled nutrients I have laying around, lol. Cheers! :yummy:

400ppm / 0.8 EC in, 1050ppm / 2.1 EC out.

pH 6.5 in, pH 5.85 out. Runoff is raising which is what I wanted to see adjusting to pH 6.5.

I've decided to make extract with the humic acid I bought. It's not prepared and not very water soluble, more coming up on the DIY stuff.

I've started making humic acid extract today and I will update as the process goes along.

I decided to make 25-30% strength solution. I started by weighing 500g of 50% humic acid from 100% leonardite.
IMG_20230908_222602526.jpg

Then I filled up a bowl with water and did some test regarding adding potassium hydroxide and where the positive to negative return concentration lays.

I found out ~250ppm / 0.5 EC of potassium hydroxide gives you ~10.5 in pH and after that point you have to start adding copious amount to even move it.

Then I put everything on the stove in a pot on simmer for ~2hours. They use either NaOH(Sodium hydroxide ie Lye) or KOH(potassium hydroxide) industrially for extraction. It's easier to use the latter on a smaller scale since you get less sodium in the final mix and don't have to do any further refinements or extractions.

IMG_20230909_110913715.jpg

I will combine this later with 200g of prepared kelp extract in 5:2 ratio. So I have a ready solution I only have to measure in ml instead of weighing and mixing.

I can make 12l of extract from the humic acid I bought. That's cheaper than the hydro store. In the states you can easily get already prepared humic and kelp granulates.

IMG_20230909_134805926.jpg

Smells like making earthy Chaga tea.

IMG_20230909_141948950_HDR.jpg

Looks like coffee grounds! About half of the solids left which should mean most of the humic acid been extracted. Will use this as a soil amendment for my vegetables and garden beds. Ended up adding it back to the pot and added more boiling water 4-5 times to rinse most humic acid out of the solids.is

Liquid black gold! Extraction done!
IMG_20230909_151055070.jpg

Everything that is left after adding it back 4-5 times.
IMG_20230909_151452658.jpg
IMG_20230909_151539656.jpg

That's 1L humic acid in solution done! Dosage will probably be somewhere ~1-3ml per liter with the added kelp. But I will take some EC measures before adding, I know roughly how much I usually add in ppm's.
