Volksball's First Grow: White Widow Feminized Grow Journal 2018

Good morning, growers.

The girls seem to be progressing nicely and showing good signs of strength and growth. See pics. @Emilya taught me, my plants are a week behind where one might think they are from flip, as they need about a week to flip themselves into flower, if that makes any sense. With that in mind, I likely shouldn't trim branches and leaves this week, but next? As you'll see, my date logs show that they are 17 days from flip, but again, using @Emilya's advice, they are more likely 10 days into flower.

With all that in mind, I shouldn't defoliate or trim branches until my date logs read 28 days from flip, correct? Or should I still just go with trimming and defoliating at 21 days from flip as @Pennywise advised?

Sorry again for the yellow pics, I just cant bring myself to disturbing their beauty sleeps, even if it is right at bedtime.

Thanks everyone.
Day 92/17F

21 or 28 days, the idea is to wait until they're done with stretch. That's not absolutely predictable, so grab a tape measure and see how tall they are in a certain spot. Measure them every day. When they stop growing, that's when they're done with stretch. There's nothing magical about 21 days. It's just an average.
Gotcha. That makes more sense to me than just a number. Thx.

Hey guys,

I've read alot about flowering temps and RH. Alot of differing opinions.

Currently, I keep my house at 20.5c (69f). The tent hovers around 18.5c (64.5) with the lights out and 24.5c (76.1f) at the highest point of the canopy. I'm trying to keep RH lower and now have it ranging between 45-53%. I'm about 3.5 weeks from flip.

Does it all sound right?

Thx.

in veg you can allow your RH to go even higher, but in bloom RH is your enemy and can cause bud rot, mildew, molds. After harvest, RH again is your friend, a high RH allowing for a slow dry. I worry about it at the extremes, usually I just let the RH go to what the house is doing. In the summer time the air conditioner is removing a lot of the missouri RH and in the winter time I will run a vaporizer to get the RH out of the single digits.

Thanks. You mentioned extremes. I didn't think I was running at, or close to them. Do you see the numbers I posted as being concerning at all?

not at all... late flower you might want to reduce it a bit. You are not generally an extreme sort of guy.
Ha. thanks. It's funny how much you can learn about a person from this place!

So, I checked the numbers at wake up and was sitting at 18.1c and 51%. 30 mins later, the tent came up to 22c and held at 51%.

I also figured a semi-work around for yellow photos. Block the light with a magazine or something and turn the flash. They're better, not best.

Thx.

Close-ups work best. Great idea!

51% with fans blowing shouldn't be a problem even in late flower. It's not always possible to get it down to 40%!
Thx. Ya, I was wondering how you keep humidity down in the low 40s in general, but specifically after feedings. There are multiple fans above and below the canopy and I gradually keep opening more and more vents on the tent. Seems to do the trick. Really kills the filter's job and my basement is starting to smell like a dispensary, but I'm not molding these things up now.

Saints should remain upstairs by their very nature :).
Well, to her credit, her and I fed the girls last time. I needed a hand staying on top of the runoff and she saved the overflow.

Not so bad for non consumer!

Hey guys,

The girls seem to be done their stretch. Or very close. We have to leave for the weekend, which is something I've never done. Ha. They'll go unattended from tomorrow morning until Sunday evening. A couple questions:

Feeding day is supposed to be Saturday. Each plant normally gets 2.3 gallons. My plan is to feed them a gallon tomorrow morning, which is half their feed at the halfway mark between feedings, then come home Sunday (a day late from scheduled feed) and feed again. How much then? A full feed?

Also, given that the stretch is all but done, would it be harmful if I waited to trim branches and defoliate until a few days after the end of stretch? Like Sunday or Monday evening?

And finally, is there a trick to defoliation or trimming branches? How do you choose? If they're seeing light, keep em? And if a leaf is hindering light passage, remove?

Thanks.

Day 95/20F

The typical rule of thumb is defoliate around day 21 of Flip or just once the stretch is done! Great job so far
Thanks! If I were to wait a couple days later than 21, would that be a big issue? Too much late stress?

Defoliate when you have time. 21 days is a rough estimate. I take any branch that I don't want the plant spending energy on trying to produce buds, and any leaf that blocks light or airflow. That often means I'm taking a lower branch and leaving the adjoining fan. Not everyone takes that kind of time but it's how I do it. I only do what you described, with airflow an additional consideration.

In terms of feeding, I only water them when they're light rather than on a schedule, so I would do a half watering before you go and then wait an extra day and do a full watering. Tough to tell though without feeling the pots.
