Well, for one the bulb won't die it it dries out.
It has a warning or heads up mode for pH outside of normal parameters. Turns red.

I spent about 30 or so hours reading reviews (not all at once, thank god, they are so boring.) and it was some of these features that initially attracted me to this particular tester. Ultimately it was the track record of their products. They have been around since the early 90s and are used world over in water treatment plants. I emailed my water treatment plant and they said they preferred their Apera testers because they hold calibration longer and are more reliable. They use the bench type mostly ,but they use a few pens too.
The bad....It has a glass probe that is a bit more exposed than some other brands, so care must be taken.
