Vick.. I'm also using a porta-scrog system.

I was actually thinking of testing different design next grow. Have you ever seen those pieces of fence people use in their outdoor gardens to protect their crop from deer?

I'm thinking if a top was added to the above design it might work better than a traditional scrog. Any thoughts?

I think that's a great idea PR.
I'd go for it.
These cages are so useful for training in so many ways.
And not only having a screen on top to scrog, but with some side lighting?
You could grow out all your lower branches instead of pulling them.
Best of both worlds in my opinion..
I think that's why I hit such a large yield last grow..
As needed, I directed lowers out the sides towards light..

That is exactly what I was thinking. That type of design would also allow people with limited space to grow small (but full) bushes. Might be worth trying out.

I think you, hozona and myself should put our heads together and come up with a better system. :high-five:

I just did a heavy defoiliation and re tie on them yesterday.
So I'm just waiting for them to recover a bit, then I'll be posting up some photos probably tomorrow night.
they're going nuts!

my next round i'll be doing 4 individual scrogs along with 6 additional smaller plants between the 4 big scrogs.

I don't plan on going anywhere!
Although after this grow I might be taking a break, just to go on a little vacation somewhere warm with the mrs.
But I will be back in full force when I return.
And I'll be checking in with everyone's grow even while on vacay!

I can't wait for my plants to get tall enough to throw the cages in there.
Might just cut them down a bit and get them on there, not sure yet. Still got to make the other 2!!

I didn't end up doing enough research to make a definite decision which would be better in flower..
Rather than purchase a magnetic ballast and CMH bulb. I decided to just go with a Light Energy 1000 watt bulb. It runs WAY cooler than the eye hortilux super HPS, and it's cheap! To the naked eye it almost looks like MH it's so cool. My plants are loving the bulb in veg right now. Not stretching at all. But when I flip the switch, I'll be putting in a brand new eye Hortilux super HPS bulb for sure..
I think it was Gigs that was using the CMH, and had done major research on them, so he might be a better one to ask.
running a HPS and a MH would be the ultimate though. But heat will come into play pretty heavily.
sorry I couldn't be of much help with the CMH's Whiz.
I'll try and do some looking around and get back to you on it.

Thanks, I did some research but nobody could say a solid answer. They did say it was less heat using the CMH. And while using the CMH it produce alot of leaves which they didnt like but said nothing really about bud production. I asked a couple ppl around the journals so lets see what info I get back. Thanks though!

Quick little veggie update!
I did a pretty heavy defoiliation a few days ago, (although it probably doesn't look like it) I just wanted to wait a few days before an update to give them a chance to come back from the shock... The growth is coming back so fast right now which is telling me my root system is thriving in those huge air pots. They seem extremely healthy right now, with no signs of bugs, nute burn, preventative sprays for powdery mildew has them mold free, Co2 and temperature are dialed. great playlists of music playing to them 16 hours a day.
Couldn't be happier! :thumb:
I'm going to finish making the rest of the porta scrog cages this week, then by week's end they should be ready to go on. Which means I'll be flipping the switch to 12/12 right around Christmas or a few days after..
