It was beautiful. Well everyplace is, just different and extreme. We had a bear take my buddys pack from the head of the tent while we slept. Fool left chocolate powder in it. Anyway, I got pics of the bear and lost them. Ok here goes. So It's the first night on the trail in the Tetons and we set the tent on a beautiful valley overlook. Food's up a tree and fast asleep. I half wake to a dream of the wind blowing us off the site over the ledge. Yikes! Why am I dreaming this? I open my eyes and it's first light and there's no wind. Just the same sound I heard. I poked my head out of the 2 man tent and saw a bear swatting the pack away from us, about 50 feet away.
I'm 21 and read to get big and loud if you run into bears and that they know people and will go away. Sooo without any other thought I jumped out of the tent naked as the day I was born doing jumping jacks with pots and pans banging overhead and hooting and hollering at the bear. It slowly turned its head, looked at me, and slowly lumbered away. I got pics and they were on that roll too. Must've been a sight to see. The sight of the bear walking, it's powerful, majestic movements are burned into my memory. Good thing, no pics.
